Adverse reactions following MPox (monkeypox) vaccination: An overview from the Dutch and global adverse event reporting systems.

AIMS: The spreading of MPox (monkeypox) virus led to a vaccination campaign in the Netherlands for individuals at high risk of infection. This overview elucidates the characteristics of the reported adverse events following immunization (AEFI) following active immunization against monkeypox and thereby provides insight on the safety profile in daily practice. METHODS: Data were collected from the spontaneous reporting system of the Netherlands Pharmacovigilance Centre Lareb. Furthermore, the global database of the World Health Organization was consulted on globally reported AEFI following sma

Surveillance of adverse events following immunisation in Australia annual report, 2019.

This report summarises Australian spontaneous surveillance data for adverse events following immunisation (AEFI) for 2019 reported to the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) and describes reporting trends over the 20-year period from 1 January 2000 to 31 December 2019. There were 3,782 AEFI records for vaccines administered in 2019, an annual AEFI reporting rate of 14.9 per 100,000 population. There was an 11.8% decrease in the overall AEFI reporting rate in 2019 compared to 2018 (16.9 per 100,000 population). This decrease in the AEFI reporting rate in 2019 was mainly attributable to a dec

Adverse dermatological reactions in rheumatoid arthritis patients treated with etanercept, an anti-TNFalpha drug.

Etanercept is an anti-TNF drug with marked efficacy in inflammatory arthritis. This review addresses dermatological side effects that have been encountered in our 85 patients on the drug for rheumatoid arthritis, and reviews other reported cutaneous adverse events. Injection site reactions are common and usually self-limiting. We and others have encountered patients with recall site reactions where the four rotated injection sites simultaneously develop a hypersensitivity reaction. In all cases, the rash has responded to antihistamines and the etanercept was thereby continued. Other injection

The distribution of antigen in flare up reaction in contact sensitivity to DNCB.

The distribution of DNP groups in various tissues of guinea-pigs following intravenous injection of DNBSO3Na was investigated by an immunofluorescent method using FITC-labelled anti-DNP antibody. DNP groups were detected either in the cytoplasms of epidermal cells or on/in lymphoid tissue cells. The epidermal distribution of DNP groups was shown in the skin obtained from 5 min to 3 days after injection. There was no fundamental difference in the epidermal localization of DNP groups between at the previously tested site and at virgin site in DNCB sensitized animals. Unreacted DNBSO3Na was demon

Effect of soluble P55 tumour-necrosis factor binding fusion protein on the local Shwartzman and Arthus reactions.

1. In this study, the effects of a protein synthesis inhibitor, cycloheximide, and a soluble tumour necrosis factor (TNF) binding/IgG fusion protein, p55-sf2, on the priming and challenge stages of the local Shwartzman reaction (LSR) were assessed and compared with their effects on the acute inflammatory response induced by recombinant human tumour necrosis factor-alpha (rhTNF), lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and a reversed passive Arthus (RPA) reaction in rabbit skin. 2. The LSR was induced in skin by giving an intradermal (i.d.) priming injection of LPS followed by two i.v. challenge injections 20

Probable haloperidol decanoate-induced fever in an African American with benign ethnic neutropenia: A case report.

We present a case in which a patient developed fever and leukocytosis subsequent to each monthly haloperidol decanoate injection, an adverse reaction that does not meet the diagnostic criteria of neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS) or any previously reported adverse reaction for this medication. A patient being treated with haloperidol decanoate for psychosis experienced a fever within 3 days of injection and leukocytosis along with swelling, pain, and a "knot" feeling at the injection site. This recurred after each injection for several months. Muscle rigidity or changes in vital signs other

A functional relationship between delayed hypersensitivity and antibacterial immunity.

The injection of living Listeria Monocytogenes into the site of a delayed hypersensitivity reaction in the footpads of mice resulted in inactivation of the organism. No such inactivation occurred when L. monocytogenes was injected into normal footpads. A correlation was observed between the magnitude of the delayed hypersensitivity reaction and the level of antibacterial resistance expressed within the delayed hypersensitivity site.

Widespread maculopapular rash due to intramuscular interferon beta-1a during the treatment of multiple sclerosis.

We describe a 41-year-old woman with multiple sclerosis, who presented erythematous maculopapular rash on the trunk and extremities after the second injection of interferon beta-1a. Histopathologic examination of the lesion revealed lymphocytic exocytosis and perivascular lymphocytic infiltrate in the dermis. Oral antihistamine and topical corticosteroid was started. After improvement of the lesions, the third injection was performed. However, the same reaction occurred. A prick test, which was performed 6 weeks after the eruption, also revealed positive reaction. Although injection-site react

Tissue reaction after intramuscular injection of liposomes in mice.

Liposomes are effective carrier systems for prolonged drug release. As all other drug formulations for parenteral use, the safety of liposomal formulations should be established before clinical application. In this study, some safety aspects of intramuscularly injected (single dose) "gel-state" type liposomes and the ability of liposome encapsulation to diminish irritating effects of intramuscularly applied drugs were studied by histopathological analysis over a period of 14 days in mice. Injection of saline solution showed no tissue reaction at the injection site. Intramuscular injection of l

An observational study of adverse drug reactions to COVID-19 vaccines reported to the New Mexico poison center hotline.

INTRODUCTION: Post-marketing data on coronavirus vaccines are limited. This study evaluated adverse reactions reported to a statewide hotline after the administration of a coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) vaccine. METHODS: We collected reports between 1 December 2020 through 30 August 2021 of any individual 12 years of age and older who received an FDA EUA-approved vaccine and experienced an adverse reaction. For each case, we collected vaccine brand, demographics, adverse reaction type, severity, onset of reaction, duration, and outcome. Relative risk analyses were conducted to investigat

The association between Bacillus Calmette-Guérin vaccination (1331 SSI) skin reaction and subsequent scar development in infants.

BACKGROUND: The Bacillus Calmette-Guérin vaccine (BCG) against tuberculosis is administered intradermally, and vaccination is often followed by a scar at the injection site. Among BCG-vaccinated individuals, having a scar has been associated with lower mortality. We aimed to examine the impact of vaccination technique for scarring in a high income setting, by assessing the associations between the post injection reaction, the wheal size, and the probability of developing a scar, and scar size. METHODS: This study was nested within a clinical multicenter study randomizing 4262 infants to eithe

Uncommon Adverse Effects of Deoxycholic Acid Injection for Submental Fullness: Beyond the Clinical Trials.

Deoxycholic acid (BELKYRATM, Allergan, Markham, ON, Canada) is a minimally invasive injectable treatment approved by Health Canada for the nonsurgical reduction of submental fullness. Multiple phase III clinical trials have proven the efficacy and safety of deoxycholic acid. In the clinical trials, the most common adverse events (AEs) reported, such as injection site pain, numbness, swelling, bruising and induration, were transient and mild-to-moderate in severity. Additional postmarketing AEs have been reported in the literature. In this study, we reviewed the uncommon reported events and aim

Discoid lupus erythematosus at the site of an intradermal injection of killed Staphylococcus aureus.

A case of chronic discoid lupus erythematosus is described in which there were recurrent relapses following infections, and at the same time repeated `flare ups' at the site of a delayed hypersensitivity reaction to Staphylococcus aureus. The appearance of the injection site changed from that of a typical `tuberculin reaction' to a patch of discoid lypus erythematosus which was confirmed both histologically and by immunofluorescence.

Photodermatitis following knee intra-articular hylan G-F 20 injection for osteoarthritis: two cases.

Hyaluronic acid (HA) intra-articular injections are increasingly used for the treatment of knee osteoarthritis. Described adverse reactions of HA intra-articular injections include injection site pain or swelling. A 71-year-old man and a 65-year-old woman independently presented with photodistributed lesions shortly after receiving a repeat HA injection (hylan G-F 20) intra-articularly. A punch biopsy was performed which was consistent with a photodrug reaction or hypersensitivity reaction. Two cases are presented to describe a novel presentation of a photosensitivity reaction to HA.
