Intradermal radioisotope injection optimises sentinel lymph node identification in breast cancer.

AIM: Currently there is no consensus on the optimal technique for sentinel lymph node (SLN) identification in patients with breast cancer. The aim was to compare the efficacy of intraparenchymal and intradermal isotope injection in sentinel lymph node mapping for breast cancer. METHODS: One hundred and twenty-five patients with histologically confirmed invasive breast cancer underwent SLN mapping using radioisotope and isosulphan blue dye followed by a back-up axillary dissection. The first 80 patients had intraparenchymal (IP) injection of radioisotope given in four portions around the tumor

Sentinel node localization in breast cancer patients using intradermal dye injection.

In a series of 161 consecutive breast cancer operations, intradermal injection of Patent Blue was used to localize the sentinel node (SN). The surgical localization rate was 60%. Including the blue lymph nodes found by the pathologist, localization rate was 70%. After the first 103 operations, the surgical procedure was changed, resulting in a localization rate of 83%. Ten surgeons participated, but only one had previous experience with SN dissection. The others experienced a steep learning curve. Metastasis was found in 42 of 97 SNs (43%). In 15 cases (36%) metastasis was recognized only afte

The Effect of Micro-Focused Ultrasound Treatment on Intradermal Botulinum Toxin Type A Injection.

Botulinum toxin type A (BoNT-A) injection and micro-focused ultrasound with visualization (MFU-V) are becoming increasingly popular for various esthetic conditions. However, performing MFU-V subsequently to BoNT-A injection may diminish the efficacy of BoNT-A. Previous reports have indicated the impact of various energy-based devices on BoNT-A. Nevertheless, the influence of MFU-V on BoNT-A has yet to be investigated. Thus, this study aims to evaluate the effect of MFU-V on BoNT-A injection and to determine the optimal interval between each treatment. A randomized controlled study was conducte

Intradermal injection of Cutibacterium acnes and staphylococcus: A pustular acne-like murine model.

BACKGROUND: Skin 16S microbiome diversity analysis indicates that the Staphylococcus genus, especially Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus), plays a crucial role in the inflammatory lesions of acne. However, current animal models for acne do not fully replicate human diseases, especially pustular acne, which limits the development of anti-acne medications. AIMS: The aim is to develop a mouse model for acne, establishing an animal model that more closely mimics the clinical presentation of pustular acne. This will provide a new research platform for screening anti-acne drugs and evaluating the ef

Pharmacokinetic differences between subcutaneous injection and intradermal microneedle delivery of protein therapeutics.

Protein therapeutics are essential in the treatment of various diseases, but most of them require parenteral administration. Since intravenous and subcutaneous injections are associated with discomfort and pain, other routes have been investigated including intradermal microneedle delivery. Microneedles are shorter than hypodermic needles and therefore minimize contact with pain receptors in deeper skin layers. But the differences in anatomical and physiological characteristics of dermis and subcutis can potentially result in varying protein penetration through the skin, absorption, and metabo

Preclinical development of an automated injection device for intradermal delivery of a cell-based therapy.

Current methods for intradermal delivery of therapeutic products in clinical use include manual injection via the Mantoux technique and the use of injection devices, primarily developed for the delivery of vaccines and small molecules. A novel automated injection device is presented specifically designed for accurate delivery of multiple doses of product through a number of adjustable injection parameters, including injection depth, dose volume and needle insertion speed. The device was originally conceived for the delivery of a cell-based therapy to patients with skin wounds caused by epiderm

Intradermal and Subcutaneous Botulinum Toxin Type A Injections Do Not Differ in the Induction of Neutralizing Antibody Formation.

The neurotoxin botulinum toxin type A (BoNT/A), produced by the bacteria Clostridium botulinum, is commonly injected intramuscularly (IM) for the management of chronic muscle hyperactivity, such as post-stroke spasticity. New indications such as peripheral neuropathic pain require alternative routes of BoNT/A administration, such as subcutaneous (SC) or intradermal (ID). While IM BoNT/A injections may elicit anti-drug-antibodies (ADAs), their occurrence following SC or ID administration is unknown. Therefore, we investigated whether repeated SC or ID injections of 150 kDa BoNT/A can elicit ADA

The effect of intradermal botulinum toxin type A injection on healing of porcine full-thickness wounds.

Botulinum toxin type A (BTX-A) has been proposed to improve wound healing quality beyond its neuromuscular effects; however, histopathologic evidence from translational skin models remains limited. This study evaluated the effects of intradermal BTX-A on cutaneous wound healing using a porcine full-thickness wound model. Ten standardized circular wounds were created and treated with intradermal BTX-A or saline as a control. Wound area and histopathological parameters-including inflammatory cell infiltration, differential inflammatory cell counts, blood vessel density, fibroblast proliferation,

A novel intradermal tattoo-based injection device enhances the immunogenicity of plasmid DNA vaccines.

In recent years, tattooing technology has shown promising results toward evaluating vaccines in both animal models and humans. However, this technology has some limitations due to variability of experimental evaluations or operator procedures. The current study evaluated a device (intradermal oscillating needle array injection device: IONAID) capable of microinjecting a controlled dose of any aqueous vaccine into the intradermal space. IONAID-mediated administration of a DNA-based vaccine encoding the glycoprotein (GP) from the Ebola virus resulted in superior T- and B-cell responses with IONA
