Standardizing Tracheostomy Discharge Education Using an Interdisciplinary Hand-off Form: A Quality Improvement Study.

BACKGROUND: Adults discharged home with a tracheostomy face preventable risks of tube dislodgement, obstruction, infection, and delayed emergency response. Consistent discharge education and interdisciplinary communication can support safe transitions from hospital to home. LOCAL PROBLEM: On an adult surgical telemetry unit at an academic medical center, tracheostomy discharge education and documentation were inconsistent across the electronic health record. Variable handoff practices between registered nurses and respiratory therapists contributed to fragmented care. METHODS: This quality i

The value of interdisciplinary treatment for sickness absence in chronic pain: A nationwide register-based cohort study.

BACKGROUND: Interdisciplinary treatment (IDT) is an internationally recommended intervention for chronic pain, despite inconclusive evidence of its effects on sickness absence. METHODS: With data from 25,613 patients in Swedish specialist healthcare, we compared sickness absence, in the form of both sick leave and disability pensions, over a 5-year period between patients either allocated to an IDT programme or to other/no interventions (controls). To obtain population-average estimates, a Markov multistate model with theory-based inverse probability weights was used to compute both the propo

An interdisciplinary study of orthodontic, orthopedic, and otorhinolaryngological findings in 12-14-year-old preorthodontic children.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Malocclusion, the body posture, and the breathing pattern may correlate, but this issue is still controversial. The aim of the study was to examine the relationship between the type of malocclusion, the body posture, and the nasopharyngeal obstruction in 12-14-year-old children. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The study group consisted of 76 orthodontic patients (35 boys, 41 girls) aged 12-14 years (mean age, 12.79 years [SD, 0.98]). All the patients were examined by the same orthodontist (study model and cephalometric radiograph analysis), the same orthopedic surgeon (body po

Pilot of a person-centred, interdisciplinary approach to goal setting in Ireland's National Rehabilitation Hospital: a study protocol.

BACKGROUND: Research has emphasised the value of a person-centred, interdisciplinary team (IDT) approach to structured goal setting in rehabilitation; yet these approaches are not consistently implemented in clinical practice, limiting the effect that goal setting can have on rehabilitation. The introduction of a new IDT, person-centred goal-setting process to Ireland's National Rehabilitation Hospital (NRH) offers an opportunity to gain insight into barriers to implementing and normalising IDT goal setting in complex, specialist rehabilitation services. This process was developed prior to, an

Evaluating Experiences With the Newly Enacted Law on Assisted Suicide in Austria: Protocol for an Interdisciplinary Mixed Methods Study.

BACKGROUND: Austria has only recently established a legal framework for assisted dying. Individuals seeking assistance in suicide must navigate a multistage process that has been criticized for its complexity both for the individuals seeking assistance and for the health care and legal professionals involved in the procedure. OBJECTIVE: To address the critical gap in empirical research that sheds light on the law's implementation and its impact on the lived experiences of those involved, as well as on the broader health care sector, we have designed an evaluation that examines the various per

Concrete Behaviours Expected in Interdisciplinary Teams in Home Nursing Care Inspired by Buurtzorg: Qualitative Descriptive Study.

BACKGROUND: Interdisciplinary teams in home care and home nursing are being implemented across Denmark, inspired by the Buurtzorg model. While structural aspects have been studied, less is known about the concrete, observable behaviours that make interdisciplinary teams function well in practice. AIM: To identify and thematise observable behaviours in well-functioning interdisciplinary teams' meetings in home care and home nursing care, thereby contributing to practice development and implementation. METHOD: The study used a qualitative descriptive, practice-oriented design to identify concr

Perceiving temporal rhythms in Sahelian soundscapes of Senegal: A pilot interdisciplinary study bridging psychoacoustics, ecology, and anthropologya).

At the intersection of ecological, psychoacoustic, and anthropological perspectives, this study examines how listeners living in Senegal's Sahelian region perceive seasonal and diurnal patterns in local soundscapes. Field recordings representing rainy and dry seasons, as well as different times of day, were first characterized using ecoacoustic analyses that revealed differences in spectro-temporal modulations. The recordings were then presented to two groups: Senegalese pastoralists (Peul herders) living in the Ferlo (n = 9) and a French control group with no prior exposure to the region (n =

Evaluation of the need for the integration of a nurse specialist (EndoNurse) into the interdisciplinary care of patients with endometriosis: Cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: Like other chronic diseases, endometriosis also requires long-term, individualized and multidisciplinary care. The integration of specialized nursing care has already been proven in other chronic diseases, but it is unclear whether and in which areas the integration of an endometriosis nurse specialist (EndoNurse) would be welcomed by patients with endometriosis. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study is to identify the need and acceptance of an integration of a nurse specialist into the care of patients with endometriosis and possible counselling topics. DESIGN: Cross-sectional study
