Perforation, Migration, and Omentum Embedding of a Levonorgestrel Intrauterine Device: A Case Report.

The intrauterine device (IUD) is currently one of the most widely used methods due to its great effectiveness. Uterine perforation and migration of the device is one of its most serious complications, although rare. In most patients, it usually occurs at the time of placement and goes unnoticed; however, it can also occur late. The diagnosis is established by imaging studies, preferring abdominal ultrasound, and its treatment should be removal in all cases. We present the case of a 27-year-old woman, with a history of levonorgestrel IUD placement two years earlier, who presented with chronic p

[Migration of an intrauterine contraceptive device outside of the uterine cavity - a case report].

Intrauterine devices (IUDs) are a safe and common form of contraception. Uterine rupture and migration of the IUD is a rare complication of insertion but can be serious and cause damage to adjacent organs. We present a case report of a 43 year old woman with chronic abdominal pain who was diagnosed with an IUD in the wall of the sigmoid colon. That IUD had been inserted in the uterine cavity 22 years earlier.

Management of Intrauterine Device Migrated into the Bladder: A Case Report and Literature Review.

Intrauterine device represents the most reversible method of contraceptive worldwide. Its insertion is a medical procedure not free from complication. We report a rare case of intravesical migration of a copper intrauterine device inserted 18 months earlier in a 28-year-old multiparous woman. The patient presented with irritative lower urinary tract symptoms, and she was managed endoscopically. This case underscores the role of cystoscopy in irritative lower urinary tract symptoms post IUD insertion.

[A case of intravesical migration of an intrauterine device detected 14 years later].

We report the case of a patient arrived because of urological symptoms characterized by terminal hematuria, strangury and dysuria due to migration into the bladder of an intrauterine contraceptive device (IUD) placed 14 years before and penetrated into the bladder with formation of lithiasis. These cases have already been described in literature, but the particular feature of this case is that the patient had been pregnant and had a eutocic delivery, she never voluntarily removed the IUD and nor was it found during a gynecologic laparoscopy. The patient underwent the surgical removal of the IU

Migration of an intrauterine contraceptive device during the course of pregnancy: a case report.

Uterine perforation by a contraceptive intrauterine device (IUD) is a relatively rare event. These events may result secondary to mechanical force applied during placement (primary perforation) or migration by uterine contractions or surgical manipulation after placement (secondary perforation). A 33-year-old woman with an IUD placed 9 years before admission visited the emergency department with an early pregnancy and a 3-day history of vaginal bleeding. Vaginal examination revealed IUD strings visible at the cervical os, and transvaginal ultrasound confirmed the presence of an IUD in the lowe

Hydronephrosis caused by intrauterine contraceptive device migration: three case reports with literature review.

Translocation of intrauterine contraceptive device (IUD) from the uterus rarely occurs, which can lead to serious complications. Here the authors reported three cases of IUD migration from into the ureter, bladder, and peritoneal cavity that caused hydronephrosis, respectively. All the three patients received minimally invasive surgeries and recovered.

Intrauterine device migration to the urinary bladder causing sexual dysfunction: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Intravesical migration represents an uncommon complication of intrauterine device (IUD) insertion. We present the case of an IUD that migrated to the urinary bladder, causing significant sexual complaints. CASE REPORT: A 38-year-old woman presented with complaints of gradually evolving dyspareunia and recurrent urinary tract infections during the past 12 months. She reported an IUD insertion 18 months before. Further detailed evaluation revealed disorders in all sexual domains. Imaging and cystoscopy detected the presence of IUD in the urinary bladder. Under anesthesia, the IUD wa

Copper Intrauterine Device Migration Into Cesarean Scar Niches Without Complications: A Case Report.

INTRODUCTION: Intrauterine devices (IUDs), both hormonal and nonhormonal, are widely used contraceptive methods, with approximately 20% of reproductive-aged women worldwide utilizing them. Although IUDs are generally considered safe and effective, complications such as displacement and migration can occur. We report a rare case of copper IUD migration into a cesarean section scar niche. CASE PRESENTATION: A 28-year-old woman presented to the emergency department with complaints of lower abdominal pain and abnormal vaginal bleeding. She had received a T-shaped copper IUD 2 years prior. Transva

Minimally Invasive Approach to Intrauterine Device Migration Into the Bladder Using Holmium Laser.

The intrauterine device (IUD) is a widely utilized method of contraception known for its high efficacy, safety profile, and long-term effectiveness. Despite its favorable characteristics, rare but potentially serious complications may occur, such as uterine perforation and device migration into adjacent pelvic or abdominal structures. One of the less frequent but clinically relevant complications is intravesical migration, where the device perforates the uterine wall and erodes into the urinary bladder. This can result in chronic lower urinary tract symptoms, recurrent urinary tract infections

When contraception goes rogue: Bladder migration of an intrauterine device presenting as refractory cystitis.

Intrauterine device (IUD) migration into the urinary bladder is a rare but significant complication that may mimic chronic cystitis or recurrent urinary tract infections due to nonspecific symptoms such as dysuria, hematuria, suprapubic pain. A 31-year-old multiparous woman presented with persistent lower abdominal pain, fatigue, and urinary symptoms. Imaging and cystoscopy revealed a migrated IUD embedded in the bladder wall. Transurethral removal failed due to fibrosis, but laparoscopic removal was successful, with complete symptom resolution. This case underscores the need to consider IUD m

Intrauterine device (IUD) migration in cesarean delivery scar: What to do with the niche?

BACKGROUND: The presence of a niche after cesarean section is a common and mostly asymptomatic finding. However, it can cause symptoms or result in impaired fertility or obstetric complications in following pregnancies. At present there is no uniform consensus on when to treat and which way of repair is most suitable. The aim of this systematic review of literature was to provide an overview of current knowledge about cesarean scar niches and about the modalities of niche repair. METHODS: On the second of January 2019 Pubmed and Cochrane databases were searched for relevant studies published

Severe complications of intrauterine device migration: Case reports of rectal perforation and omental localization.

Migration of intrauterine devices (IUD) is uncommon; however, it can lead to increasingly severe complications, ranging from simple pelvic pain to potentially lethal septic shock. Therefore, diagnostic and therapeutic approaches combining endoscopic paraclinical examinations with surgical intervention need further investigation by clinicians to ensure better management. This study presents 2 rare cases where a migrating intrauterine device at the rectal level was removed via hysteroscopic approach and a second one was removed via laparoscopy.

An Interesting Image of Transmural Migration of a Levonorgestrel-Releasing Intrauterine Device (LNg-IUD).

Intrauterine devices (IUDs) are very common as a method of birth control. By adding progesterone (levonorgestrel), a decrease in the risk of complications has been documented, including the risk of perforation. Even though only a few complications have been described, adjacent organs may be involved in the case of migration-a life-threatening situation. A 45-year-old G4P2 woman was seen in our clinic for LNg-IUD removal, according to the medical instructions. Her main complaints were abdominal discomfort, low back pain, and recurrent menorrhagia. A "lost" IUD was initially suspected; the patie
