[Transperitoneal nephrectomy of crossed ectopic kidney without fusion associated with stenosis of the pyeloureteral junction and pyelocaliceal staghorn calculi].

The authors report their experience on a case of crossed ectopic kidney without fusion associated with stenosis of the pyeloureteral junction and secondary pyelocaliceal staghorn calculosis. After a brief summary of the various types of kidney ectopia and related principles of operation they describe their case report underlying the rarity of their case and the surgical approach. They consider the anterior transperitoneal approach as the most indicated for this type of malformation as it permits a better surgical view of the kidney and of the vascular structures.

Flexible ureteroscopy and holmium laser lithotripsy for treatment of upper urinary tract calculi in patients with autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease.

The objective of the study was to investigate the safety and efficacy of flexible ureteroscopy and holmium laser lithotripsy for the management of patients with autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) and associated nephrolithiasis. Between 2005 and 2010, flexible ureteroscopic stone treatment was attempted in 13 patients with ADPKD. Two patients had bilateral renal stones. Most of the stones were located in the renal pelvis and/or calices with a stone size 1.7 cm in the largest diameter. The success rate and morbidity and complications were recorded. A total of 45 intrarenal calc

Laparoscopic ureterolithotomy, flexible ureteroscopic lithotripsy and percutaneous nephrolithotomy for treatment of upper urinary calculi in patients with autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease.

OBJECTIVES: Patients with autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) showed relatively high incidence of urinary stones. Enlarged kidneys occupied by cysts could make the stone-removal surgery relatively difficult. This study aimed to compare the efficacy and safety of retroperitoneal laparoscopic ureterolithotomy (RPLU), flexible ureteroscopic lithotripsy (FURL) and percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) in the ADPKD patients with upper urinary stones. METHODS: In this study, 45 patients with ADPKD who underwent RPLU, FURL and PCNL procedures were evaluated. Demographic and serum para

Our kidneys and teeth may be closer than we think: relationship between dental calculi and renal stone burden grading in a patient series from Somalia.

BACKGROUND: Chest radiography confirms initial nasogastric tube placement but is impractical for repeated verification during feeding and medication administration. LOCAL PROBLEM: Nasogastric tube placement verification practices on the neuroscience unit delayed feedings and medication administration due to radiograph interpretation and physician order wait times. The aim of this quality improvement project was to assess feasibility, usability, and adoption of gastric aspirate pH testing and tube length measurement for ongoing nasogastric tube placement verification after initial chest radiog

Successful management of multiple obstructing renal calculi in a 30-year-old patient with autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease using Frequency-Doubled Double-Pulse neodymium: Yttrium - Aluminium garnet laser lithotripsy.

Autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) is the most prevalent genetic disorder that results in end-stage renal disease. Although ADPKD patients experience long disease trajectories, factors such as hypertension, proteinuria and renal calculi have been observed to lead to rapid renal function impairment in patients with ADPKD. Furthermore, due to the distorted anatomy that makes access to stone difficult, the management of nephrolithiasis in ADPKD patients is one of the several special situations in which urinary lithiasis presents management challenges. We report the case of a 30-

A clinical study of percutaneous nephroureterolithotripsy.

Percutaneous nephroureterolithotripsy was performed a total of 309 times in 225 renal units of 209 patients with upper urinary tract calculi, a mean of 1.37 times per kidney. Residual calculi, 5 mm or greater in diameter, were observed in 3 of 100 kidneys (3%) with single calculi, 12 of 102 kidneys (11.8%) with multiple calculi, and 8 of 23 kidneys (34.8%) with staghorn calculi. The number of sessions, duration of nephrostomy, and the frequency of residual calculi were significantly higher in problem calculi, such as multiple, large and staghorn calculi, than in other calculus types. Prevalence of renal urolithiasis in a large, captive white-tailed deer herd.

Prevalence of renal urolithiasis in a large, captive white-tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus) herd was examined over a two-year period of time. In 1973, 1.3% of 225 deer examined had calculi in the renal pelvis and 4.4% had kidney lesions, either independent or in combination with the calculi. In 1974, prevalence increased and 5.9% of 354 deer had calculi and 6.5% had kidney lesions. Calculi and lesions affected all sex and age-classes. Involvement was both unilateral and bilateral with 23.8% having stones in both kidneys and 30.4% having lesions in both kidneys. Lesions and calculi occurred

Application of percutaneous nephrolithotomy combined with da Vinci Xi robot in complicated upper urinary tract repair surgery: A case report.

Duplex kidney and ureter is a congenital malformation. Few patients present with hydronephrosis caused by obstruction of the ureteropelvic junction of the duplex kidney, but lower kidney calculi caused by a duplex kidney abnormality is rare. This study reports a case of a duplex kidney and ureter complicated by multiple calculi in the duplex lower kidney. Percutaneous nephrolithotomy combined with a da Vinci robot-assisted laparoscopic upper urinary tract reconstruction was performed. The lower ureter was resected, and the lower kidney was preserved. One year after the surgery, a follow-up exa

A child with atypical celiac disease and recurrent urolithiasis.

A young boy with prior constipation developed recurrent severe calcium phosphate kidney calculi, sometimes sufficient to cause acute kidney failure and hydronephrosis. After several major surgeries, food allergies were determined by serum immunoglobulin E testing, and when he finally went on a gluten-free diet, he stopped forming calculi and has had no surgeries related to kidney calculi since. Hyperoxaluria was not identified in this child by 24-hour urine analysis, unlike most other reports of kidney calculus formation in individuals with gluten intolerance.

Pulp stones can help in detection of calculus in the kidneys and/or in the bile--fact or fiction?

BACKGROUND: Pulp stones or denticles are frequently found in the dental pulp; there is, however, scarce evidence about this phenomenon. Regardless of the obvious endodontic problem of inhibiting access to the canals and their further treatment, they have not been given great importance. The latest experiences of scientific and practical research, including examinations of dental calcifications and their association with calcifications/calculi in the organism, have not been included in the literature. AIM: To investigate the possible association between dental calcifications and calculi in the

Bilateral Urinary Calculi.

Cases in which stones are found on both sides at the same time are alone considered. They form 9.4% of the admissions for stone in the upper urinary tract at St. Peter's Hospital. Figures from Continental clinics vary from 11% to 14%, while those obtained from post-mortem records are nearly 50%.FOUR GROUPS OF CASES ARE CONSIDERED: (1) Calculi due to a special diathesis, e.g., cystine stones. (2) Aseptic bilateral calculi. (3) Infected bilateral calculi. (4) Cases complicated by anuria.(1) Cystinuria should be treated medically, by diet and alkalis, but stones may form, in spite of treatment. T

A giant ureteral stone in a 32-year-old man: a case report.

Giant ureteral calculi are defined as stones greater than 5 cm in length or circumference. These giant calculi can cause blockage of the ureter, dilation of the kidney and also decreased kidney function if not treated in time. The patient in this report presented with complaints of bilateral episodic pain of the bilateral lumbar region. Kidney, ureter and bladder (KUB) X-ray test showed a large bilateral ureteral stone about 14 cm in length and 106 g weight in the left ureter and 3 cm longitudinal diameter in the right ureter and also a staghorn stone in the left upper collecting system.
