The comprehensive potential of AQP1 as a tumor biomarker: evidence from kidney neoplasm cohorts, cell experiments and pan-cancer analysis.

Aquaporin1 (AQP1) facilitates water transport. Its ability to be a biomarker at the pan-cancer level remains uninvestigated. We performed immunohistochemical staining on tissues from 370 individuals with kidney neoplasms to measure AQP1 expression. We utilized Kaplan-Meier survival analysis, Chi-square tests, and multivariate Cox regression analyses to assess the prognostic relevance of AQP1 expression. In the pan-cancer context, we explored AQP1's competing endogenous RNAs network, protein-protein interactions, genomic changes, gene set enrichment analysis (GSEA), the correlation of AQP1 expr

Risk of malignant neoplasms of tacrolimus in kidney transplant patients: a retrospective cohort study conducted using the Japanese National Database of Health Insurance Claims.

BACKGROUND: Although the long-term survival of kidney transplant recipients has significantly improved, malignant neoplasms remain one of the leading causes of death in this population. The recipients face a 1.8-fold increased risk of developing malignant neoplasms compared with the general population. This risk increases with time after transplantation. Tacrolimus (TAC) is preferred over cyclosporine A (CyA) in terms of efficacy against organ rejection, but evidence on the risk of malignant neoplasms is lacking. We aimed to describe the incidence and types of malignant neoplasms in kidney tra

A case of pancreatic heterotopy of duodenal wall, intraductal papillary mucinous tumor and intraepithelial neoplasm of pancreas, papillary carcinoma of kidney in a single patient.

We report a case of the contemporaneous presence of two histologically different pancreatic neoplasms, one renal cancer and one embryogenic duodenal anomaly in a single patient. A 66-year-old man underwent ultrasound examination because of urinary disorders; a solid neoformation within the inferior pole of the left kidney was observed. Computed tomography confirmed the renal lesion, but also a heterogeneous mass within the pancreatic head appeared without bile ducts dilatation. Abdominal magnetic resonance revealed a multiloculated cystic component of the pancreatic mass. A second CT scan conf

A Rare Case of Bilateral Papillary Renal Neoplasm With Reverse Polarity on 18 F-FDG PET/CT in Native Kidneys of a Transplant Recipient.

Papillary renal neoplasm with reverse polarity (PRNRP) is a rare, low-grade renal tumor characterized by distinct histologic and molecular features. Bilateral involvement of native kidneys by PRNRP in renal transplant recipients is exceedingly rare, and its metabolic presentation on 18 F-FDG PET/CT has not been extensively documented in the literature. We present a unique case of bilateral native kidney PRNRP in a renal transplant recipient, which was incidentally detected on 18 F-FDG PET/CT and subsequently confirmed through histopathologic diagnosis after bilateral radical nephrectomy.

Non-syndromic Multifocal Low-Grade Oncocytic Renal Tumors, Including Microtumors, in End-Stage Renal Disease Kidneys with Synchronous Non-TSC Renal Cell Neoplasms.

Low-grade oncocytic tumor (LOT) is a recently described indolent renal neoplasm with over 80% of tumors harboring mutations in the TSC/MTOR signaling pathway. Typically, LOTs present as sporadic solitary tumors in patients with normal renal function, and occasionally in patients with end-stage kidney disease. However, multifocal LOTs have rarely been observed in patients with tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC). We report four patients with multifocal LOTs, including microtumors, coexisting with other renal cell neoplasms in the context of chronic kidney disease (CKD) or end stage renal disease (

Renal cystic neoplasms and renal neoplasms associated with cystic renal diseases: pathogenetic and molecular links.

Cystic renal neoplasms represent an isolated cystic mass not accompanied by cystic change of the renal parenchyma. Although cystic change may be seen in any type of renal neoplasm, a few (i.e., cystic renal cell carcinoma, cystic nephroma, cystic partially differentiated nephroblastoma, mixed epithelial and stromal tumor) are characterized by constant cystic change that may involve the entire tumor. Cystic kidney disease is characterized by cystic change, which usually involves the kidneys in a bilateral and diffuse pattern, does not create a discreet mass, and is due to hereditary or developm

[Pathology of the kidneys in malignant tumors of various localizations and antitumor therapy].

Non-tumorlesions of the kidneys in malignant neoplasms are very diverse. They can alter the results of chemotherapy and lead to death in the long term. In this regard, the related discipline of onconephrology has increasingly begun to be identified, which emphasizes the importance of diagnosing non-tumor kidney lesions in this category of patients. This review is devoted to the classification, diagnosis, course, prevention and treatment of non-tumor kidney lesions in patients with malignant neoplasms. There are four groups of lesions: mechanical damage; nephropathy due to anticancer therapy; p

Simultaneous occurrence of renal cell adenocarcinoma and urothelial carcinoma of the renal pelvis in the same kidney diagnosed by preoperative angiography.

An unusual case of dissimilar histologic neoplasms in the same kidney is presented. An 86-year-old man had renal cell carcinoma and urothelial carcinoma in the same kidney eight years after therapy for urinary bladder carcinoma. These two different types of neoplasms were identified preoperatively by angiography. A peculiar hamartoma was also found in the same kidney.

Cancer arising after pancreas and/or kidney transplantation in a series of 99 diabetic patients.

OBJECTIVE: Recipients of solid organ transplants have an increased risk of developing certain types of malignancies as compared with the general population. The majority of the literature has reported on neoplasms in kidney and heart transplant recipients. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS: We describe 9 neoplasms occurring in 7 out of 73 IDDM patients after simultaneous pancreas and kidney transplantation. No cases were recorded among 26 IDDM recipients of kidney transplantation. RESULTS: Among the neoplasms found were 2 cases of posttransplant lymphoproliferative disorder (PTLD), malignant melan

An Unusual Combination of Biliary Cystadenoma and Renal Angiomyolipoma- A Case Report.

Hepatobiliary cystadenomas are mucinous cystic neoplasms arising in the liver, extrahepatic bile ducts or gall bladder. Extrahepatic cystadenomas are rare neoplasms requiring complete excision as there is a chance for recurrence and malignant transformation. Angiomyolipoma (AML) belongs to the perivascular epithelioid cell group of neoplasms, and kidney is the commonest site involved. We report a case of an unusual combination of extrahepatic biliary cystadenoma with angiomyolipoma in an adult female without evidence of tuberous sclerosis. The patient presented with abdominal discomfort and on

Rat renal mesenchymal tumor as an experimental model for human congenital mesoblastic nephroma: I. Induction.

The effect of low-dose (2 Gy) radiation on ethylnitrosourea (ENU)-induced neoplasms was studied in Sprague-Dawley and Holtzman strains of rats. With a 60 mg/kg dose of ENU administered on day 1 in Sprague-Dawley rats, 18.4% of the neoplasms induced were found in the kidney. When the same dose of ENU was given on day 10, the incidence of kidney tumors fell to 2.8%. Prior (2 Gy) radiation on day 9 enhanced kidney tumor induction to 16.1%, a trend also observed in the case of ENU-induced neural tumors. In Holtzman rats, 40 mg/kg ENU induced more kidney tumors (12.5%) when given on day 4 than on d

Fine needle aspiration biopsy of primary renal synovial sarcoma. A case report.

BACKGROUND: Primary renal synovial sarcoma is a relatively recently described and characterized neoplasm, formerly designated embryonal sarcoma of the kidney, and has not been diagnosed before by fine needle aspiration biopsy cytology. We describe the cytologic features of a malignant biphasic neoplasm of the kidney that was subsequently diagnosed at nephrectomy and confirmed with molecular genetic analysis as a biphasic renal synovial sarcoma. CASE: A 38-year-old male presented with acute abdominal pain. Computed tomography (CT) demonstrated a 4.7-cm mass in the left kidney. No soft tissue o

Cystic renal neoplasms and renal neoplasms associated with cystic renal diseases in adults: cross-sectional imaging findings.

Cystic renal neoplasms in adults are a heterogeneous group of tumors with characteristic histogenesis, pathological findings, and variable biological profiles. They include disparate entities that are either biologically benign (lymphangioma, cystic nephroma, and mixed epithelial and stromal tumor) or malignant (cystic renal cell carcinoma, multilocular cystic renal cell carcinoma, and primary renal synovial sarcoma). Renal cystic diseases are characterized by cystic changes of the kidneys due to hereditary, developmental, or acquired etiology. Cystic renal diseases such as acquired cystic kid

[An exceptional mimicker of ovarian tumors: cancer in a pelvic horseshoe kidney].

BACKGROUND: although the horseshoe kidney is a frequent congenital abnormality, the likelihood of it being the cause of a malignant tumor that looks like an ovarian neoplasm has not been reported. CLINICAL CASE: a 53-year-old female came to the hospital with a pelvic tumor. The patient had a history of a simple hysterectomy due to uterine myomatosis. At abdominal physical examination we identified a rounded hypogastric tumor, 20 cm diameter, firm, and fixed. On pelvic examination the mass was easily palpated through the vaginal fornix.
