Background: The available evidence suggests that amoxicillin is often associated with the occurrence of Kounis syndrome (KS). The purpose of this study is to explore the clinical characteristics of KS induced by amoxicillin. Methods: We searched for case reports of amoxicillin-induced KS through Chinese and English databases from 1972 to May 2022. Results: A total of 33 patients with KS were included, including 16 patients (48.5%) receiving amoxicillin treatment and 17 patients (51.5%) receiving amoxicillin-clavulanate. The median age was 58 years (range 13-82), 75.8% were from Europe and 81.8

Kounis syndrome (KS) is an acute coronary syndrome including coronary spasm, acute myocardial infarction, and stent thrombosis preceded by an anaphylactic, anaphylactoid, allergic, or hypersensitivity injury. In this case presentation, we discussed Type I and Type II KS. Case 1 was a 72-y-old man who presented to the emergency department with allergic symptoms and chest pain that developed after multiple bee stings. Electrocardiography showed ST depression in the lateral leads. Case 2 was a 42-y-old woman who presented to the emergency department with complaints of chest pain, dizziness, and p

Kounis syndrome defined as the appearance of acute coronary syndrome in the context of an allergic reaction is a relatively rare phenomenon. There are three variants of this syndrome in which the patient presents with symptoms of an acute chest. Herein, we describe a case of an 83-year-old woman who demonstrated type I variant of Kounis syndrome in response to vancomycin administration. After initialisation of vancomycin, she became unresponsive and an ECG demonstrated ST changes consistent with inferior-lateral myocardial infarction. Once allergic stimulus was removed, ECG normalised. Differe

BACKGROUND: Kounis syndrome (KS) is an allergy-mediated acute coronary syndrome that is frequently under-recognized and potentially life threatening.
CASE SUMMARY: A 52-year-old man developed an inferior ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction following a bee swarm attack. Standard thrombolysis with streptokinase triggered severe hemodynamic collapse and systemic hemorrhage. Upon recognizing KS, management was shifted to steroids and antihistamines, leading to complete recovery. Recurrence was documented 8 years later following an ant bite.
DISCUSSION: This case illustrates how standard a

Kounis syndrome (KS) is a rare condition in which allergic reactions activate mast cells and platelets, causing acute coronary syndromes (ACS), such as myocardial infarction, coronary vasospasms, or stent thrombosis. It can be triggered by drugs, food, vaccines, or insect bites. We report two cases involving elderly male patients. The first case describes a 71-year-old male with an allergy to non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), who accidentally ingested diclofenac and developed an allergic reaction with chest pain. In the emergency room, he was diagnosed with ST-elevation acute myo

Kounis syndrome (KS) is commonly defined as acute myocardial infarction (AMI) secondary to exposure to an allergen. There are multiple identified allergens that are associated with KS, examples include medications, food, and contrast media. After exposure to an allergen, the allergic pathway is triggered leading to vasospasm in coronary vessels which later on presents as AMI. A high index of clinical suspicion is of crucial importance as there are multiple variants of KS. Each type requires a different management approach depending on the severity of the presenting symptoms. Here, we present a

BACKGROUND: Kounis syndrome (KS) is a rare but clinically significant manifestation of acute coronary syndrome triggered by allergic, anaphylactic, or anaphylactoid reactions. Despite its potential severity, KS remains under-recognized in clinical practice.
OBJECTIVE: To present a case series illustrating the 3 subtypes of KS and to propose a management algorithm tailored to its unique pathophysiology.
METHODS: We describe 3 patients, each representing one of the KS subtypes: type 1 (coronary spasm without underlying disease), type 2 (plaque rupture in pre-existing coronary disease), and typ

Kounis syndrome refers to the concurrence of acute coronary events and allergic or hypersensitivity reactions. In this report, we describe the case of a male patient, in whom acute ST-segment elevation and myocardial infarction developed immediately after injection of depot penicillin, and we discuss the Kounis syndrome. A 52-year-old male patient had chest pain, hypotension and ST-elevation on leads DI and aVL of electrocardiography 30 minutes after intramuscular penicillin injection due to cryptic tonsillitis. Kounis syndrome was considered as a possible diagnosis according to the presentati

BACKGROUND: Kounis syndrome is a rare type of allergic or hypersensitivity-induced acute coronary syndrome. The release of numerous inflammatory mediators induces vasospasms and potential thrombosis leading to myocardial infarction.
CASE HISTORY: We present the case of a 65-year-old woman with metastatic melanoma who experienced chest tightness and dyspnea after her 3rd infliximab infusion and who had transitory ST elevations. Suspecting allergic reactions and acute coronary syndrome she was simultaneously treated for both conditions with complete resolution of symptoms and electrocardiograph

BACKGROUND: Epinephrine, the primary treatment for anaphylaxis, may paradoxically worsen underlying myocardial ischaemia due to its vasoconstrictive effects and potential to trigger vasospasm during an inflammatory response.
CASE SUMMARY: We present two cases of Kounis syndrome-one in a patient who developed Prinzmetal angina after exposure to shellfish and another who experienced cardiac arrest after receiving intramuscular epinephrine for an anaphylactic reaction to a wasp sting.
DISCUSSION: These cases emphasize the potential for anaphylaxis to precipitate acute coronary syndrome which ca

A 68-year-old man was admitted with ST-elevation myocardial infarction and intense rash. He was diagnosed with type 2 Kounis syndrome elicited by drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms (DRESS) syndrome and received complete revascularization with percutaneous coronary intervention. This case highlights the complex pathophysiology of acute coronary syndrome, and the elusive link between coronary occlusion and ST-segment deviations at ECG.

Kounis syndrome is angina or acute coronary syndrome caused by mast cell degranulation and inflammatory cell activation. We present a case of a patient with underlying aspirin-exacerbated respiratory disease (AERD) and previous anaphylaxis to aspirin. The patient underwent aspirin desensitization and was then treated with high-dose aspirin. Unfortunately, he developed recurrent angina and myocardial infarction (MI). Numerous left heart catheterizations revealed vasospasms as the etiology of his MIs; however, therapy with increasing doses of vasodilators yielded no improvement in the patient's

BACKGROUND: Acute coronary syndromes in the setting of an allergic or hypersensitivity reaction are known as Kounis syndrome. The syndrome involves release of inflammatory mediators after an allergen exposure that leads to coronary artery vasospasm or platelet activation. A variety of foods, drugs, and environmental exposures have been implicated in this condition.
CASE REPORT: The case involves a 62-year-old woman with dyspnea, chest pain, and transient ST-segment elevation after ingesting celecoxib. Her symptoms resolved with treatment for a suspected allergic reaction. Although she did hav

This case report describes a 58-year-old woman who sought treatment in the dermatology department after experiencing a three-day episode of widespread rash and itching, along with fever, chills, abdominal distress, and increased urinary frequency and urgency. Upon examination, she exhibited numerous erythematous patches and wheals on her face and body, devoid of blisters or erosions. Laboratory tests indicated an elevated white blood cell count, C-reactive protein, and serum amyloid A, while liver and kidney function tests were within normal limits. An electrocardiogram demonstrated sinus rhyt

Anaphylaxis triggered by insect bites is well-documented, but its association with acute myocardial injury (AMI) is rare. We report a case of Kounis syndrome, where an ant bite induced anaphylaxis and myocardial injury. A 47-year-old diabetic male presented with anaphylaxis following an ant bite, exhibiting hypotension, respiratory distress, and wheezing. Electrocardiography revealed transient widespread ST depression and ST elevation in lead aVR, a pattern reflecting global ischemia, which is uncommon in Kounis syndrome. Treatment with intramuscular adrenaline stabilized his condition. Peak t

Background Vaccination is the most important way out of the novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. Vaccination practices have started in different countries for community immunity. In this process, health authorities in different countries have preferred different type of COVID-19 vaccines. Inactivated COVID-19 vaccine is one of these options and has been administered to more than 7 million people in Turkey. Inactivated vaccines are generally considered safe. Kounis syndrome (KS) is a rare clinical condition defined as the co-existence of acute coronary syndromes and allergic reac
