K13-propeller gene polymorphisms in Plasmodium falciparum parasite population: a systematic review protocol of burden and associated factors.

BACKGROUND: Malaria control and prevention efforts continue to rely heavily on the use of medicines especially artemisinin agents. However, currently, the emergence of artemisinin resistance threatens this effort globally. The K13-gene polymorphisms associated with artemisinin resistance have been detected in Southeast Asia. In countries outside Southeast Asia, artemisinin resistance has not yet been confirmed. METHODS/DESIGN: The articles will be obtained from the search of MEDLINE via PubMed, Scopus, EMBASE, and LILACS/VHL databases. Mesh terms will be used in the article search. Boolean op

Systematic review with meta-analysis: endoscopic dilation is highly effective and safe in children and adults with eosinophilic oesophagitis.

BACKGROUND: Oesophageal dilation is frequently used as an adjunct treatment to alleviate symptoms that develop from fibrostenotic remodelling in eosinophilic oesophagitis (EoE). Earlier reports described an increased risk of complications associated with dilation. AIM: Perform a systematic review and meta-analysis to assess the efficacy and safety of endoscopic dilation in children and adults with EoE. METHODS: Professional librarians searched MEDLINE, EMBASE, the Cochrane library, Scopus, and Web of Science for articles in any language describing studies of dilation in EoE through December

"A thoughtful and experienced physician": William Munk and the care of the dying in late Victorian England.

William Munk (1816-1898) qualified as a physician in 1837 and practiced in London for more than 60 years. Munk became well known in the medical profession during the second half of the nineteenth century for his emphasis on the importance of narcotics for the relief of pain in incurable disease and was also a recognized authority on smallpox. In addition to his medical practice Munk was the Harveian Librarian of the Royal College of Physicians for almost 40 years and, among other biographical works, single-handedly produced the Roll of the Royal College of Physicians of London 1518-1700. Promoting Trust and Engagement Through Health Literacy Education: Enhancing the Therapeutic Alliance with People Hospitalized for Acute Psychiatric Care.

People seeking health information online face barriers in evaluating that information, often relying on unvetted sources that may contribute to distress, misinformation, or mistrust of providers. In this project, we piloted a nurse-librarian-led quality improvement intervention: a weekly class teaching people hospitalized for acute psychiatric care how to assess the credibility of online health content. The class was designed to foster patient engagement, improve digital health literacy, and build therapeutic trust. Pre- and post-intervention survey data showed increases in patient satisfactio

Understanding how sleep disorders are managed in people with asthma: a scoping review of the literature.

OBJECTIVE: People with asthma may experience sleep disturbances due to uncontrolled asthma symptoms and/or co-occurring sleep disorders. Asthma shares pathophysiological pathways with sleep disorders including insomnia and obstructive sleep apnea and the interrelationship between asthma and sleep disorders is bi-directional. Insufficient sleep in general and in people with asthma leads to worsened mental and physical health. How this is managed in people with asthma is less known. DATA SOURCES: This scoping review examines current literature around sleep health management employed by people w

High prevalence of celiac disease in autoimmune hepatitis: Systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Previous studies investigating the prevalence of celiac disease (CD) in individuals with autoimmune hepatitis (AIH) have shown highly variable results. We therefore aimed to examine the prevalence of CD in individuals with AIH. METHODS: Two professional librarians searched PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane and Web of Science Core Collection up until 7 February 2020. The search terms included 'celiac disease', 'celiac', 'transglutaminases', 'gluten', 'gliadin', 'EMA', 'TTG' and 'villous' combined with 'autoimmune', 'hepatitis', 'ANA', 'SMA' and 'LKM'. Occupation and breast cancer mortality in a prospective cohort of US women.

The authors examined the association between main lifetime occupation and subsequent breast cancer mortality in a large prospective study of US adults. After 9 years of follow-up, 1,780 cases of fatal breast cancer were observed among 563,395 women who were cancer-free at interview in 1982. Main lifetime occupation was derived based on self-reports of current and former occupational titles and was classified into 14 broad occupational groups and 16 more narrowly defined occupational titles. Results from Cox proportional hazards models, adjusted for breast cancer risk factors, revealed little v

CASE PRESENTATION: Librarians at Weill Cornell Medicine partnered with Mentoring in Medicine, a Bronx-based nonprofit, to develop the Community Health Ambassador Program (CHAmP) curriculum. The project settings were at three New York City schools. The project took place over two years, with the pilot taking place

A systematic mapping review of studies reporting the effects of spaceflight on cardiovascular outcomes.

This systematic review aimed to characterize the landscape of cardiovascular research in the context of spaceflight and its Earth-based analogs. In collaboration with subject matter experts from the Ames Life Science Data Archive Analysis Working Group, we developed targeted search terms for spaceflight-related exposures and specific cardiovascular outcomes. A team of librarians translated these terms into structured search strategies across Ovid Medline, Embase, and CINAHL, yielding 18,837 records after deduplication. Screening was completed in collaboration with citizen scientists from the S

A Systematic Literature Review of Patients With Carotid Web and Acute Ischemic Stroke.

Background and Purpose- Carotid web (CW) is a rare form of focal fibromuscular dysplasia defined as an abnormal shelf-like projection of intimal fibrous tissue into the carotid bulb. It is theorized that CW leads to ischemic stroke secondary to blood flow stasis and subsequent embolization. The natural history and optimal management of CW are unclear. To address this knowledge gap, we performed a systematic literature review (SLR) of CW. Methods- Our librarians performed a SLR for CW and related terminology. Patient-level demographics, stroke risk factors, neuroimaging findings, stroke recurre

How Are Homebound Older Adults Identified? Definitions, Approaches, and Challenges-A Scoping Review.

Homebound status increasingly emerges as a critical social and health concern among older adults. Recognized as a "hard-to-reach" group, there is a need to better understand how to define and identify homebound older adults. Using the Arksey and O'Malley framework (2005), we searched eight databases with a librarian-guided strategy. Two authors independently screened titles, abstracts, and full texts, and extracted data based on set criteria. We included 19 studies that define homebound status through factors such as the duration and frequency of confinement; consequences of physical, social,
