Facilitators and barriers to childhood immunization in Canada: a scoping review.

BACKGROUND: Immunization is a primary prevention public health strategy that has saved more lives than any other health service. Achieving the recommended 95% childhood immunization coverage rate remains a challenge in Canada, especially post-COVID-19. This challenge highlights the need to better understand current immunization facilitators and barriers to improve coverage rates. This study aimed to determine: (1) Factors that support and create barriers to childhood immunization for families with children 0-6 years of age in Canada (2) If childhood immunization facilitators and barriers chang

Co-production and mental health service provision: a scoping review.

OBJECTIVES: Co-production is a relatively new concept with a history spanning back just four decades. However, it is only in the past ten years that it has been applied to mental health. It is now observed as a recovery principle whose presence is necessary for recovery-orientated services to become a reality. Despite this, today, there is still much confusion as per the philosophical, empirical and practical basis within mental health service provision, with key areas lacking theoretical clarity, for example, its definition within the mental health domain along with its ontological and episte

Temporal bone radiology report classification using open source machine learning and natural langue processing libraries.

BACKGROUND: Radiology reports are a rich resource for biomedical research. Prior to utilization, trained experts must manually review reports to identify discrete outcomes. The Audiological and Genetic Database (AudGenDB) is a public, de-identified research database that contains over 16,000 radiology reports. Because the reports are unlabeled, it is difficult to select those with specific abnormalities. We implemented a classification pipeline using a human-in-the-loop machine learning approach and open source libraries to label the reports with one or more of four abnormality region labels:

Strategies to enhance palliative care access in rural populations and increase awareness of life-limiting illnesses in India: A scoping review.

BACKGROUND: As of April 2023, India is reported to be the most populated country in the globe by the United Nations, with estimation of around 1.5 billion citizens. Despite the development in palliative delivery in recent years, access to such services in rural populations remains underutilized and shows many difficulties. As life expectancy increases, those who live in rural areas are faced with higher incidences of non-communicable diseases along with the already burdened prevalence of infectious diseases, leading to an ever-high demand for end-of-life healthcare services that are easy to ac

Whole-genome Identification of Transcriptional Start Sites by Differential RNA-seq in Bacteria.

Gene transcription in bacteria often starts some nucleotides upstream of the start codon. Identifying the specific Transcriptional Start Site (TSS) is essential for genetic manipulation, as in many cases upstream of the start codon there are sequence elements that are involved in gene expression regulation. Taken into account the classical gene structure, we are able to identify two kinds of transcriptional start site: primary and secondary. A primary transcriptional start site is located some nucleotides upstream of the translational start site, while a secondary transcriptional start site is

Investigating the Role of Occupational Therapy in Palliative Care: A Literature Review.

Occupational therapy's (OT) scope of practice aligns with the services provided for clients receiving palliative care (PC). Despite this, other home healthcare professions do not well understand OT interventions or their efficacy. As such, it is essential to review existing literature to define the roles and functions of OT in PC and to better clarify their role in the home healthcare multidisciplinary team. The objective of this review was to define the themes of effective OT within PC and identify how OT may benefit clients with serious illness using an extensive review of the literature. To

A Prototype Software Framework for Transferable Computational Health Economic Models and Its Early Application in Youth Mental Health.

We are developing an economic model to explore multiple topics in Australian youth mental health policy. To help make that model more readily transferable to other jurisdictions, we developed a software framework for authoring modular computational health economic models (CHEMs) (the software files that implement health economic models). We specified framework user requirements for: a simple programming syntax; a template CHEM module; tools for authoring new CHEM modules; search tools for finding existing CHEM modules; tools for supplying CHEM modules with data; reproducible analysis and repor
