Development of emergency nursing educational materials in Lao People's Democratic Republic: a methodological study.

PURPOSE: This study aimed to develop contextualized emergency nursing educational materials tailored to the Lao People's Democratic Republic (Lao PDR). Emergency nurses in Lao PDR face challenges arising from the lack of standardized, culturally relevant learning resources. Existing materials are often adopted from other countries and do not adequately reflect local needs, contributing to inconsistencies in clinical practice. Developing locally tailored resources, supported by official development assistance, is therefore essential for improving emergency nursing education and practice. METHO

Evidence-based Chinese medicine clinical practice guideline for stomach pain in Hong Kong.

Stomach pain in Chinese medicine (CM) is a very common disorder in clinical practice and it has been listed as one of the pilot three conditions in Hong Kong to develop evidence-based CM clinical practice guidelines (CM CPGs). The aim of this stomach Pain CPG is to summarize the treatment methods of stomach pain with CM and evaluate reasonably, then to guide local licensed CM practitioners and provide beneficial reference for social medical decision makers and patients. In this manuscript, we defined stomach pain in CM and the category of chronic gastritis in Western medicine. The clinical man

Economic impact of switching to licensed ready-to-administer injectable anaesthetic and critical care medicines in the National Health Service: a model-based evaluation of prefilled syringes.

BACKGROUND: Licensed, ready-to-administer injectable medicines can reduce medication errors, minimise waste, and streamline perioperative workflows, but higher acquisition costs have limited uptake in England. This study evaluated the economic impact of switching selected anaesthetic and critical care medicines from conventional ampoules and vials to licensed prefilled syringes within NHS practice. METHODS: An economic model compared current mixed-use practice with a hypothetical switch to 100% licensed ready-to-administer products for eight medicines: epinephrine 1 mg in 10 ml, ephedrine 30

Delirium in a surgical context from a nursing perspective: A hybrid concept analysis.

BACKGROUND: The term delirium has been defined in medical diagnosis criteria as a multidimensional disorder, and the term acute confusion is included in nursing classifications. Delirium can be a serious complication assessed in a patient after a surgical procedure. Still, the patient's delirium frequently remains unrecognised. Care of patients with delirium after surgical procedure is complex, and it challenges nursing expertise. From the nurses' viewpoint, delirium is associated with ambiguity of concepts and lack of knowledge. Therefore, reseach on how nurses perceive patients with delirium

Nurse Perceptions of End-of-Life Care Quality Across Long-Term Care, Home, and Social Model Hospice Home Settings: A Qualitative Descriptive Study.

This qualitative descriptive study explored nursing perspectives on end-of-life care quality across 3 distinct community settings: long-term care facilities, patients' homes, and social model hospice homes. Nurses provide most of the direct end-of-life care in these settings, yet their perspectives remain understudied. Their perspective is essential for improving end-of-life care quality and supporting patients and families during this critical time. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 11 licensed nurses who had provided end-of-life care across all 3 settings. Participants were recr

Dimensions of oral care management in Texas hospitals.

PURPOSE: There is a growing body of evidence that suggests improved oral health can help patient outcomes in hospitals. Yet there are indicators that oral care in hospitals is less than ideal. This study was conducted to quantify and qualify the dimensions of oral care in Texas hospitals with a focus on the dental knowledge, attitudes and practices of nurses and barriers to providing such care. METHODS: A random sample of 582 registered nurses, licensed and employed in Texas, was surveyed about oral care attitudes, practices and knowledge. Frequencies and Spearman correlations were used to de

Attachment insecurity, professional quality of life, and perceived posttraumatic growth among hospital nurses.

BACKGROUND: Hospital nurses routinely manage emotionally demanding clinical work that may contribute to burnout and secondary traumatic stress, while also providing opportunities for meaning making processes, compassion satisfaction, and perceived posttraumatic growth. Attachment insecurity may shape how nurses regulate distress and engage with supportive relationships, but its associations with both negative and positive professional outcomes remain understudied. OBJECTIVE: This study examined associations among attachment anxiety, attachment avoidance, professional quality of life, and perc

"Can We Talk?": A Community-Based Training to Improve Serious Illness Communication.

Serious illness conversations (SICs) are often delayed or avoided in community-based healthcare due to clinician discomfort and lack of training. Given that many patients wish to die at home, yet often do not, there is a need for structured communication training in home care and hospice settings to ensure the care we provide aligns with patient and family preferences. This quality improvement project aimed to assess whether a brief, structured, in-person training session could improve clinician confidence in conducting SICs. A pre-test/post-test design was used. Clinicians participated in a 1

Factors motivating attendance at continuing medical education programs: a mixed-methods study from a Middle Eastern Country.

Continuing medical education enables healthcare professionals to maintain and enhance their knowledge and skills in a rapidly evolving medical field. In many settings, a specified number of continuing medical education hours is required annually for renewal of professional practice licenses. However, the factors that motivate healthcare professionals to attend continuing medical education programs are not fully understood. This mixed-methods study examined the factors influencing attendance at continuing medical education programs in a Middle Eastern country. Four accredited continuing medical

Rehabilitation in the nursing home: how much, why, and with what results.

Although rehabilitation is considered an important component of long-term care, few studies have looked at the factors associated with the provision of rehabilitation in this setting. The authors examined one State's skilled nursing homes to gain information on their rehabilitation practices. Data for this study came from a mail survey and from the licensing applications filed with the State Division of Facility Services. Sixty-nine percent of the State's nursing homes responded to the survey. All reported that they provided specialized physical therapy, occupational therapy, or speech therapy
