Effects of Supplementing the Diets of Mice With Different Concentrations of Conjugated Linoleic Acid on the Anti-Inflammatory Function of the Mammary Gland.

In this study, we evaluated the impact of the dietary addition of different concentrations of conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) on the antioxidant capacity and anti-inflammatory effects of serum and breast tissue in mice. Twenty-four ICR mice (BW = 37.79 ± 2.17 g) at 7 days of pregnancy were divided into four groups (n = 6 per group): a control (CN) group, which was fed a normal diet, and three groups fed a normal diet supplemented with 0.5% CLA, 1% CLA, or 2% CLA. Each mouse had free access to food and water. After 49 days of feeding, mice were injected with lipopolysaccharide (LPS) to induce in

Effects of Dietary Supplementation with Conjugated Linoleic Acid on Redox Marker Profiles and Neuroaxonal Degeneration in Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis.

The revised ALS Functional Rating Scale (ALSFRS-R) and the blood plasma accumulation of neurofilament light chain (NfL) are key markers for tracking amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) progression. Based on recent studies indicating that dietary supplementation with conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) may boost antioxidant enzyme activity in ALS patients, in this study, ALSFRS-R scores (and subscores), NfL and thiol-bound protein (P-SH) levels, and intracellular activity of antioxidant enzymes (G6PD and GSR) were measured in ALS patients after 6 months (T6) of treatment with riluzole (R) or riluzol

Screening, Physiological Characterization, Genomic Analysis and Optimization by Conjugated Linoleic Acid Bioconversion of Two Lactiplantibacillus plantarum Strains.

Conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) comprises a group of C18 fatty acids containing conjugated double bonds and has been associated with potential anti-obesity and antitumor effects. In this study, 116 presumptive lactic acid bacteria (LAB) isolates were recovered from homemade Sichuan pickles. Primary screening identified 28 CLA-producing isolates, among which strains 7# and 31# showed the highest absorbance at 233 nm (A233). CLA production by both strains was subsequently optimized and quantified using gas chromatography-quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (GC-Q-TOF). Under the optimized

Microwave-assisted synthesis of 4,4-dimethylsterol-conjugated linoleic acid ester and its lipid-lowering benefits evaluation.

4,4-Dimethylsterol (RST), rich in rice bran oil, is often considered to have good lipid-lowering properties, and conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), a special fatty acid, is also considered to have similar properties, but the low solubility and poor oxidation stability limits their application in the food industry. Typically, sterol esters have better solubility after esterification. However, it is difficult to esterify 4,4-dimethylsterol for its additional methyl groups. Therefore, a microwave-assisted esterification of 4,4-dimethylsterol with CLA was developed in this study, and the lipid-loweri

Adipose tissue miRNA level variation through conjugated linoleic acid supplementation in diet-induced obese rats.

BACKGROUND: Conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), which is an octadecadienoic acid isomer, is believed to play different positive physiological roles, such as lowering body fat. Due to some reported side effects of CLA, like lipodystrophy and impaired glucose metabolism, it is important to establish its safety by understanding detailed molecular mechanisms. One of these mechanisms may be the role of this dietary agent in modifying the function and activity of microRNAs (miRNAs). OBJECTIVES: The aim of the study was to investigate how adipocyte miR-27a and miR-143 expression may be influenced by CLA

Conjugated Linoleic Acid Reduces Cholera Toxin Production In Vitro and In Vivo by Inhibiting Vibrio cholerae ToxT Activity.

The severe diarrheal disease cholera is endemic in over 50 countries. Current therapies for cholera patients involve oral and/or intravenous rehydration, often combined with the use of antibiotics to shorten the duration and intensity of the disease. However, as antibiotic resistance increases, treatment options will become limited. Linoleic acid has been shown to be a potent negative effector of V. cholerae virulence that acts on the major virulence transcription regulator protein, ToxT, to inhibit virulence gene expression. ToxT activates transcription of the two major virulence factors requ

A high intake of conjugated linoleic acid does not affect liver and kidney function tests in healthy human subjects.

Conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) is consumed widely as a supplement. It causes hepatomegaly in animals, but toxicological data in humans are limited. We therefore studied the effect of a high daily intake of CLA on liver and kidney function in healthy subjects. Twenty subjects received 14.6 g cis-9,trans-11 CLA and 4.7 g trans-10,cis-12 CLA isomers a day for 3 weeks. Liver and kidney function was measured at 0, 3, 7, 10, 16, and 21 days. Mean values of all tests remained within normal limits. Lactate dehydrogenase (mean+/-SD) increased from 290.9+/-43.6 to 322.5+/-60.7 U/L (p=0.04) on day 21. On

Intracerebroventricular administration of conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) inhibits food intake by decreasing gene expression of NPY and AgRP.

Dietary conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) has been investigated for its beneficial effects on disease prevention and treatment, and now obesity is one of the most perspective researching highlights. In a variety of experimental models, the results of studies on the effects of CLA on food intakes are somewhat inconsistent. Our experiment was conducted to extend these observations to hypothalamus and other regions within the central nervous system so that the mechanism of the actions of CLA might be more easily elucidated. In the experiment, a permanent cannula was inserted into the lateral ventric

Conjugated linoleic acid deteriorates insulin resistance in obese/diabetic mice in association with decreased production of adiponectin and leptin.

Dietary supplementation of conjugated linoleic acids (CLA) is known to have some beneficial effects such as anti-carcinogenic and anti-obesity effects in several animal species, while it also induces insulin resistance and fatty liver, especially in mice. To explore the possible factors responsible for the CLA-induced insulin resistance, we examined the plasma and mRNA expression levels of several adipocytokines, which are likely involved in the regulation of insulin sensitivity, in normal C5 7BL, mildly obese/diabetic KK and morbidly obese/diabetic KKAy mice. Detection of 11 beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 1, the glucocorticoid and mineralocorticoid receptor in various adipose tissue depots of dairy cows supplemented with conjugated linoleic acids.

Early lactating cows mobilize adipose tissue (AT) to provide energy for milk yield and maintenance and are susceptible to metabolic disorders and impaired immune response. Conjugated linoleic acids (CLA), mainly the trans-10, cis-12 isomer, reduce milk fat synthesis and may attenuate negative energy balance. Circulating glucocorticoids (GC) are increased during parturition in dairy cows and mediate differentiating and anti-inflammatory effects via glucocorticoid (GR) and mineralocorticoid receptors (MR) in the presence of the enzyme 11β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 1 (11βHSD1). Serum adipokine profile and fatty acid composition of adipose tissues are affected by conjugated linoleic acid and saturated fat diets in obese Zucker rats.

Conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) has been reported as having body fat lowering properties and the ability to modulate the inflammatory system in several models. In the present study, the effects of CLA added to saturated fat diets, from vegetable and animal origins, on the serum adipokine profile of obese Zucker rats were assessed. In addition, the fatty acid composition of epididymal and retroperitoneal adipose tissues was determined and a principal component analysis (PCA) was used to assess possible relationships between fatty acids and serum metabolites. Dietary Docosahexaenoic Acid and trans-10, cis-12-Conjugated Linoleic Acid Differentially Alter Oxylipin Profiles in Mouse Periuterine Adipose Tissue.

Diets containing high n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) decrease inflammation and the incidence of chronic diseases including cardiovascular disease and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease while trans-fatty acids (TFA) intake increases the incidence of these conditions. Some health benefits of n-3 PUFA are mediated through the impact of their oxygenated metabolites, i.e. oxylipins. The TFA, trans-10, cis-12-conjugated linoleic acid (CLA; 18:2n-6) is associated with adipose tissue (AT) inflammation, oxidative stress, and wasting. We examined the impact of a 4-week feeding of 0, 0.5, and 1.5%

Utilizing immobilized lipase for selective esterification in non-aqueous media: A strategy to enrich and purify conjugated linoleic acid isomers.

The specific recognition capability of Candida rugosa lipase presents a green approach for separating conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) isomers. However, its limited selectivity and poor operational stability have impeded its industrial applications. This study established a novel system based on mesoporous silica (MS)-immobilized lipase for selective esterification in a non-aqueous phase, enabling the efficient enrichment of CLA isomers. By functionalizing the MS surface and optimizing immobilization parameters, a lipase loading capacity of 89.61 ± 1.21 mg·g-1 was achieved. Subsequent optimizati
