Extranodal marginal zone B-cell lymphoma/maltoma of the lip in a child: case report and review of cutaneous lymphoid proliferations in childhood.

All forms of cutaneous lymphomas are rare in children. Extranodal marginal zone B-cell lymphomas (EMZBL)/mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphomas are unusual neoplasms in children and young adults. We report a case of an EMZBL/MALT lymphoma of the lip in a previously healthy 14-year-old boy without immunodeficiency, confirmed by immunohistochemistry and documentation of clonal rearrangement of the immunoglobulin heavy-chain gene. Additionally, we present a review of the differential diagnosis of skin and mucosal lymphoid proliferations in childhood.

EBV-negative lymphoepithelial-like carcinoma of the lower lip.

Lymphoepithelial-like carcinoma (LEC) is a rare malignant neoplasm, which can be associated with Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection. Histologically, LEC is an undifferentiated carcinoma with an intermixed reactive lymphoplasmacytic infiltrate. LEC appears to be an uncommon tumor type of lip carcinoma. An 82-year-old white woman presented a lesion on her lower lip that developed over the last year. The lesion was characterized by ulceration with flat edges, hardened base, painful, and absence of regional lymphadenopathy. Microscopical analysis evidenced an intense inflammatory infiltrate, compo

Pleomorphic Adenoma of the Upper Lip: A Rare Case.

Salivary gland tumors account for a small fraction of head and neck tumors. Pleomorphic adenoma, the most common salivary gland neoplasm, frequently arises in major salivary glands; its localization to minor salivary glands is uncommon and typically involves the palate. We describe a patient with an asymptomatic, long-standing mass of the upper lip, which was found to be a pleomorphic adenoma.

[The Regional Characteristics of Preventable Mortality of Population].

The concept of preventable mortality makes it possible to assess health care reserves and to identify priorities of their improvement at the regional level. It was established that in the Republic of Buryatia during 2005-2019, the percentage of the first group by the levels of prevention of causes of death of the old list (Preventable) decreased by 6.1%, mainly due to injuries, poisoning and other consequences of external factors. The percentage of the second and third groups increased by 4.4% and 1.7%, respectively. The cause of increasing of preventable mortality are malignant neoplasms and

Lymphoid pneumonitis in 50 adult patients infected with the human immunodeficiency virus: lymphocytic interstitial pneumonitis versus nonspecific interstitial pneumonitis.

Lymphocytic interstitial pneumonitis (LIP) and nonspecific interstitial pneumonitis (NIP) are pulmonary complications of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection that occur in the absence of a detectable opportunistic infection or neoplasm. We reviewed lung biopsy specimens from 50 adult HIV-infected patients, of whom four had LIP and 46 had NIP. The majority (47 of 50) of specimens from patients with NIP showed mild chronic interstitial pneumonitis (CIP/NIP), with three showing features of diffuse alveolar damage, organizing phase. In contrast to CIP/NIP, the five specimens from four pati

Novel labial adnexal sebaceous basaloid proliferation associated with sebaceous epitheliomas and adenocarcinomas in Labrador retrievers.

A distinctive peritumoral epithelial proliferation was identified exclusively in the labial region of Labrador retrievers in association with sebaceous neoplasms. To characterize this lesion, 515 sebaceous neoplasms diagnosed in dogs of different breeds between 2017 and 2025 were retrospectively reviewed. Among these, 2 of 255 epitheliomas (0.7%) and 22 of 41 adenocarcinomas (54%) arising in the lips exhibited a distinctive peripheral basaloid epithelial proliferation. The lesion was observed only in the lower lip of Labrador retrievers, occurring in association with either solitary or multifo

Apocrine hidrocystoma of the lower lip: a case report and literature review.

The hidrocystomas (HCs) are cystic forms of sweat gland resulting from proliferation of the apocrine secretory coil or eccrine duct. Apocrine -HCs are cystic lesions that arise from the apocrine secretory coil, while eccrine -HCs represent retention cysts of the eccrine duct. The commonest site for such lesions is around the eye, and they may also occur on the ears, scalp, chest, shoulders, or feet. However, HCs of the perioral region are uncommon. The differential diagnosis with minor salivary gland cyst or cystic neoplasms often poses a problem in this site. Here we report a rare case of apo

Mixed Eccrine Cutaneous Tumor with Folliculo-Sebaceous Differentiation: Case Report and Literature Review.

Background/Introduction: Cutaneous mixed tumor is a rare benign neoplasm that exhibits a wide range of metaplastic changes and differentiation in the epithelial, myoepithelial, and stromal components, which is often confused with various other skin lesions. Case report: We present an unusual case of a 58-year-old woman with a mixed tumor of the upper lip, previously misdiagnosed as adnexal carcinoma on a preoperative biopsy. The excision biopsy shows a well-circumscribed lesion composed of various cells and structures featuring folliculo-sebaceous differentiation embedded in a prominent chondr

Second primary neoplasms following non-Hodgkin's lymphoma in New South Wales, Australia.

The incidence of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL) has been increasing rapidly over the last three decades. The reasons for this trend are not known although increasing exposure to sunlight has been postulated. We used data from the New South Wales Central Cancer Registry to analyse second primary neoplasms following NHL diagnosed between 1972 and 1995, to identify possible common causal agents. A total of 12,452 patients contributed 54,308 person-years of follow-up during which time there were 705 second primary neoplasms compared to 592.99 expected (standardized incidence ratio (SIR = 1.19, 95% c

Diagnostic neglect of actinic cheilitis: a clinical challenge in the early diagnosis of this oral potentially malignant disorder - case report.

BACKGROUND: Lip squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC) is a malignant neoplasm frequently associated with chronic sun exposure. Oral potentially malignant disorders (OPMDs), including actinic cheilitis (AC), might act as a precursor of LSCC. However, AC are often neglected by undertrained clinicians in oral medicine, which delays clinical and histopathological diagnosis and compromises secondary prevention of oral cancer. CASE REPORT: After a routine clinical oral examination in a 58-year-old male, who was in a follow-up consultation to check on a denture that was installed last year in another servi

Benign chondroid syringoma affecting the upper lip: Report of a rare case and review of literature.

Chondroid syringoma (CS) (mixed tumor of the skin) is a rare neoplasm of the sweat glands, which presents itself as a slow-growing, painless, nonulcerated, subcutaneous or intracutaneous mass often occurring in the head and neck region. The clinician may miss the diagnosis of this lesion due to its rarity. CS should be considered in the differential diagnosis of any subcutaneous nodules, especially in the head and neck region. The diagnosis of CS is mainly based on the histopathologic examination. This article presents a 35-year-old male with a mass on the upper lip that was histopathologicall

RECURRENT PLEOMORPHIC ADENOMA OF THE UPPER LIP: CASE REPORT AND REVIEW OF THE LITERATURE.

INTRODUCTION: Pleomorphic adenoma or mixed tumour is a benign salivary gland tumour, presenting usually in the parotid or submandibular glands. This tumour contains elements of both epithelial and mesenchymal origin. They are the most common tumours (50%), (60-65%) of the major and minor salivary glands. The palate is considered as the most common intraoral site (42.8-68.8%), followed by the upper lip (10.1%) and cheek (5.5%). CASE REPORT: A 37 year old female Nigerian house wife was seen with a four year history of painless slowly progressive upper lip swelling. Prior to her presentation, sh

Benign Mixed Tumour of Eccrine Origin Presenting as Upper Lip Swelling: A Report of a Rare Case and Literature Review.

Benign mixed tumors of eccrine origin are rare cutaneous neoplasms characterized by both epithelial and mesenchymal differentiation. These tumors, arising from eccrine sweat glands, often present as slow-growing, solitary nodules and are commonly misdiagnosed due to their nonspecific clinical appearance. We report the case of a 47-year-old male patient with a seven-month history of a firm, ill-defined upper lip swelling initially suspected to be a sebaceous cyst. Surgical excision followed by histopathological evaluation revealed features consistent with a benign mixed tumor of eccrine origin,

Oral cysticercosis: a collaborative study of 16 cases.

Cysticercosis is a potentially fatal parasitic disease that rarely involves the oral region in humans. This study includes 21 lesions seen in 16 Latin American patients. There were 8 men and 8 women, with an age range from 6 to 67 years (mean 33.6 years). Most cases appeared as asymptomatic submucosal nodules that resembled mucous cysts or benign mesenchymal neoplasms. Most were found in the tongue (11 cases), followed by buccal mucosa and the lower lip (4 cases each) and upper lip (2 cases). These were well circumscribed, and ranged in size from 1 to 2.5 cm in diameter. Typical histologic fea

Benign oral masses in a Northern Jordanian population-a retrospective study.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the relative frequencies, types and distribution of benign oral masses in North Jordanians. The records of the Department of Pathology at Jordan University of Science & Technology were reviewed and analyzed for patients with benign oral soft tissue masses, received during an 11-year period (1991-2001). The main outcome measures were patients' age and sex, and the mass type and location. A sum of 818 benign oral soft tissue masses (4% neoplastic and 96% non-neoplastic) was analyzed. Common benign neoplasms were salivary pleomorphic adenoma and lipoma. Non-n

Cutaneous adnexal differentiation and stromal metaplasia in palate pleomorphic adenomas: a potential diagnostic pitfall that may be mistaken for malignancy.

Cutaneous adnexal differentiation is well-recognized in benign mixed tumors occurring in cutaneous sites. The incidence of this histologic finding in salivary gland sites is not known. We sought to describe the incidence of cutaneous adnexal differentiation in benign mixed tumors of the palate, lip, and parotid gland. Benign mixed tumors of the palate (n=30), lip (n=13), and parotid gland (n=37) resected between 1980 and 2009 at a single academic medical institution were reviewed. All hematoxylin and eosin-stained sections containing neoplasm were reviewed by all authors including one dermatop

Well-differentiated liposarcoma/atypical lipomatous tumor of the oral cavity: report of three cases and review of the literature.

Atypical Lipomatous Tumor/Well Differentiated Liposarcoma (ALT/WDLS) is a soft tissue sarcoma of intermediate malignant behavior, most frequently affecting the retroperitoneum and lower extremities. Oral liposarcomas are very rare neoplasms, the most common histological subtype being ALT/WDLS. In this study, three additional cases of ALT/WDLS located on the tongue (2 cases) and the lower lip (1 case), respectively, are described. Analysis of the salient clinicopathologic features of 63 oral ALT/WDLS cases previously reported in the English language literature, as well as of the 3 cases present

A Rare Case of Glomus Tumor on the Mucosal Surface of Lower Lip.

Glomus tumors are mesenchymal neoplasms derived from glomus bodies with rare presentations in the oral cavity. Glomus tumors present as a purple or pink vascular nodule or papule, sized <1 cm, and imitate vascular neoplasms such as hemangiopericytoma or hemangioma. Glomus tumors represent less than 2% of all benign soft tissue tumors. Only 27 cases of benign glomus tumors with oral cavity involvement have been reported to date. The most-reported oral tumors involved the lips (54.2%), followed by hard palate, gingiva, tongue, and buccal mucosa. The mean age of presentation of the labial glomus

[Groups at high risk for skin cancer].

A special program aimed at detecting skin cancer at early stages was worked out and launched into use in 1989. It provides for a series of measures for primary examination and subsequent follow-up of population. Dermatologists conducted examinations of persons at high risk 2-4 times a year depending on the disease. They were joined by oncologists, whenever required, and morphological examinations were sometimes carried out. The group at high risk for skin cancer included patients older than 50, with the following pathologies: (I) Obligate precancerous dermatites: Bowen's syndrome, erythroplasi
