Prognostic Significance of the Lymph Node Ratio in Obstructive Colorectal Cancer: A Retrospective Multicenter Study.

BACKGROUND/AIM: This study evaluated the association between lymph node ratio (LNR) and long-term prognosis in pathological node-positive patients with obstructive colorectal cancer (CRC) who underwent colonic stent insertion as a bridge to surgery. PATIENTS AND METHODS: This retrospective multicenter study included 75 node-positive patients with obstructive CRC treated with a colonic stent. Receiver operating characteristic analysis for 5-year relapse-free survival identified an optimal LNR cut-off of 0.125. Patients were thus classified into high-LNR (LNR-H, n=40) and low-LNR (LNR-L, n=35)

Lymph Node Ratio (LNR) Discriminates Prognostication in pN1a-b and pN2 Stage-III Colon Cancer.

Background: The lymph node ratio (LNR), involved nodes/ lymph nodes examined, is associated with survival in colon cancer. Previous studies investigated the prognostic role of LNR regardless of TNM N staging or compared LNR and TNM N stages for prognostic strength. However, LNR may be utilized to obtain additional prognostic information rather than replacing TNM staging in daily practice. This study aimed to evaluate the role of LNR in TNM N stages to provide further prognostic information in daily practice. Methods: Patients with stage-III colon cancer who underwent surgery and adjuvant chemo

Neutrophil-albumin ratio and multi-phase computed tomography for lymph node metastasis in pancreatic cancer.

BACKGROUND: Reliable preoperative detection of lymph node metastasis (LNM) in pancreatic cancer remains elusive: Conventional computed tomography (CT) underestimates micrometastases, and carbohydrate antigen 19-9 is hampered by low specificity. The neutrophil-albumin ratio (NAR) simultaneously reflects systemic inflammation and nutritional depletion, but its contribution to LNM prediction in pancreatic cancer is unexplored. We hypothesised that integrating NAR with multi-phase CT findings would significantly improve the accuracy of preoperative LNM assessment in patients undergoing curative-in

Ratio between positive lymph nodes and total dissected axillaries lymph nodes as an independent prognostic factor for disease-free survival in patients with breast cancer.

The number of positive axillary lymph nodes involved by tumor is one of the main prognostic factors for women with locoregional breast cancer (BC) for whom adjuvant chemotherapy is being considered. The prognostic importance of the ratio (P/D) between positive lymph nodes (P) and total dissected lymph nodes (D), previously demonstrated in the high-dose chemotherapy (HDC) setting has not yet been tested, however, in the conventional adjuvant chemotherapy setting. The data of 168 patients who were from 2 institutions and who were treated with adjuvant chemotherapy for BC were retrospectively ana

Lymph node ratio has impact on relapse and outcome in patients with stage III melanoma.

BACKGROUND: Even though both the involvement of regional lymph nodes and the number of metastatic lymph nodes are regarded as major determinants of survival in cutaneous melanoma, the extent of node dissection has been analyzed as an independent prognostic indicator in only a few studies. This study aims to determine how the lymph node ratio (NR) (ratio of positive nodes to total nodes removed) might predict the disease relapse and survival in node-positive melanoma. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 317 patients with stage III primary melanoma were included in the study and reviewed retrospe

Can Metastatic Lymph node ratio be used as an independent prognostic factor in Carcinoma tongue?

BACKGROUND: Lymph node metastasis is an established prognostic factor in carcinoma of tongue. The association between lymph node ratio (LNR, the ratio of positive lymph nodes to the total number of dissected lymph nodes) and survival has been recently studied. But the available literature is mostly retrospective in nature and they take the broad group of oral squamous cell carcinoma as a whole and not as a single sub-site; also it does not take in to consideration the importance of standardising the minimum number of lymph nodes to be dissected or a single head and neck pathologist examining t

The lymph node ratio is a prognostic factor for survival in laryngeal and hypopharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma.

INTRODUCTION: The lymph-node yield and the lymph-node ratio have emerged as important prognostic tools for head and neck cancer. These metrics are an index of disease burden, but also of quality standards. The objective of the present study was to examine the impact of different lymph-node yield cut-offs and the lymph-node ratio on 10-year recurrence-free interval and overall-survival. METHODS: A single center cohort study was carried out over a 10-year period (2013-2023). A total of 157 patients met inclusion criteria and were available for analysis. Patients met inclusion criteria if they u

The influence of lymph node ratio on survival and disease recurrence in squamous cell carcinoma of the tongue.

This study was performed to report the outcomes of patients with oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) of the tongue over a 10-year period with the aim of testing the hypothesis that the lymph node ratio (LNR) has a significant influence on loco-regional recurrence. The charts of 227 patients with OSCC of the mobile tongue treated at the University Hospital of Zurich from 2003 to 2012 were screened. Following the application of the exclusion criteria (prior chemotherapy, radiotherapy, or surgery, perioperative death, N3 disease, unresectable disease, synchronous second primary, no signed informe
