CONTEXT: Recently, we identified 2 patients with anaplastic large T-cell lymphoma (ALCL) negative for tyrosine kinase anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK-negative) in the fibrous capsule of silicone breast prostheses, placed for cosmetic reasons. Similar cases have been reported in the literature. Although an increased risk of ALCL in patients with breast prostheses has been speculated, no studies have been conducted so far.
OBJECTIVE: To determine whether ALCL risk is associated with breast prostheses.
DESIGN: A search for all patients with lymphoma in the breast diagnosed in The Netherlands be

CD30(Ki-1) positive anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL) is a distinct entity, in which the monoclonal antibody-positivity against the CD30(Ki-1) antigen of tumour cells has a diagnostic value. The histological subtypes of ALCL show also certain clinical differences. Except for some pediatric cases and cutaneous forms clinical outcome is very unfavourable despite of the various treatment methods. In this prospective study (follow-up of 11-60, median 16 months) clinicopathological data and treatment results of fifteen adult patients with ALCL were analysed, Mean age was 46 (16-69) ys with a bi

BACKGROUND: Ki-1 (CD30) ALCL is a rare and distinct type of high-grade NHL. A relevant feature is young age at presentation. Most reported pediatric series are retrospective analyses of heterogeneously-treated cases.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: Between 1976 and 1993, Ki-1 ALCL was diagnosed in 32 children (20 males 12 females; median age 9 years; 10.4% of childhood NHL). Before 1987, original diagnoses had been malignant histiocytosis in 14 cases, and immunoblastic NHL in 2. The treatment program for childhood T-lymphoblastic NHL, except for CNS prophylaxis, was applied in 28/32 cases. Radiotherapy

Anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL) is the most common type of mature T-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma in children/adolescents. ALCL is characterized by expression of CD30 in the neoplastic lymphoid cells with frequent expression of anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK), especially within the pediatric population. Despite multiple efforts to optimize the use of conventional chemotherapy, outcomes in children, adolescents, and adults with ALCL remain suboptimal. Thus, there is a need to improve survival for those with high-risk disease and decrease therapy exposures and toxicities for those with low-ri

Primary cutaneous anaplastic large cell lymphoma (PCALCL) is a subtype of non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) that is localized to the skin. Disseminated disease is rare, and visceral organ involvement is even more so. We report a unique case of PCALCL with gastric metastasis. A 75-year-old man with a history of cutaneous left lower extremity PCALCL status post radiation therapy initially presented with abdominal pain and was found to have diffuse celiac axis and retroperitoneal lymphadenopathy. Endoscopy, initially done to biopsy an involved lymph node (LN), demonstrated a friable gastric nodular lesi

Breast implant-associated anaplastic large-cell lymphoma (BIA-ALCL) is a rare T-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma characterized as CD30 positive and anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK) negative. In 2016, the World Health Organization declared BIA-ALCL as a new disease entity. The first case of BIA-ALCL was reported in 1997, and as of July 2019, the United States Food and Drug Administration had cited a total of 573 United States and global medical device reports of BIA-ALCL, including 33 deaths. In all clinical case reports, except for those with unknown clinical history, the patient had received at leas

Cellulitis is one of the most misdiagnosed disease, which could be lethal when misdiagnosed. There are a lot of diseases to consider in differential diagnosis of cellulitis. Especially when conventional treatment with antibiotics does not seem to work, other radiological examinations and biopsy should be considered to find out what is causing the symptoms. Our case presents a patient with anaplastic large cell lymphoma, who was first thought to have had cellulitis but was later found to have malignancy. We aim to highlight the significance of differential diagnosis in common symptoms.

Anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL) was first described in 1985 as a large-cell neoplasm with anaplastic morphology immunostained by the Ki-1 antibody, which recognizes CD30. In 1994, the nucleophosmin (NPM)-anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK) fusion receptor tyrosine kinase was identified in a subset of patients, leading to subdivision of this disease into ALK-positive and -negative ALCL in the present World Health Organization classification. Due to variations in morphology and immunophenotype, which may sometimes be atypical for lymphoma, many differential diagnoses should be considered, inc

BACKGROUND Anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL) is a relatively rare subtype of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL). Like other types of NHL, ALCL primarily involves the nodal area, and sometimes it can involve several extra-nodal sites such as skin, soft tissue, and lungs. However, extensive bone involvement in cases of ALCL is very rare whether it is primary or secondary. Without nodular involvement, ALCL can be misdiagnosed as bone tumor or metastatic carcinoma such as lung, breast, or prostate cancer, which frequently spread to bone. CASE REPORT A 52-year-old woman with generalized pain and 2 mo

INTRODUCTION: Primary central nervous system lymphoma (PCNSL) of T-cell origin is an exceptionally rare, highly malignant intracranial neoplasm. Although such a tumor typically presents with a focal mass lesion.
CASE REPORT: Past medical history of a 26-year-old male patient with a PCNS lymphoma of T-cell origin was not suggestive of intracranial pathology or any disorder of other organs and organic systems. To achieve a gross total tumor resection, surgery was performed via osteoplastic craniotomy using the left frontal transcortical transventricular approach. Histological and immunohistoche

Recent studies have shown a relationship between lymphoma and breast implants. We performed a meta-analysis about this problem. We found 80 cases, 50 of which were reported in the United States (62.5%). The average age was 52 years. The average time between breast implant surgery and lymphoma was 11 years. Forty-one percent of the breast implants were silicone, 42.19% were saline and 15.8% were unknown. The coverage of the breast implants was texturized in 21.3% and unknown in 78%. The most common brands were McGhan and Mentor. In 72.6% of the cases, the brand was unknown. The clinical finding

This chapter describes a study in which the pattern of numerical chromosomal alterations in cutaneous anaplastic large cell lymphoma (C-ALCL) tumor samples was defined using array-based comparative genomic hybridization (CGH). First, the array-based CGH technique applied is outlined in detail. Next, its application in the analysis of C-ALCL tumor specimens is described. This approach resulted in the identification of highly recurrent chromosomal alterations in C-ALCL that include gain of 7q31 and loss on 6q16-6q21 and 13q34, each affecting 45% of the patients. The pattern characteristic of C-A

CONTEXT: The year 2010 commemorates the 25th year since the seminal publication by Karl Lennert and Harald Stein and others in Kiel, West Germany, describing an unusual large cell lymphoma now known as anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL). Investigators at many universities and hospitals worldwide have contributed to our current in-depth understanding of this unique peripheral T-cell lymphoma, which in its systemic form, principally occurs in children and young adults.
OBJECTIVE: To summarize our current knowledge of the clinical and pathologic features of systemic and primary cutaneous ALCL

BACKGROUND: Primary cutaneous anaplastic large cell lymphoma (PC-ALCL) is a T-cell lymphoma that presents in the skin and consists of CD30+ anaplastic large lymphocytes with abundant cytoplasm and pleomorphic nuclei. In addition to the classic variant, several other histologic patterns of ALCL have been identified, among them the lymphohistiocytic variant.
OBJECTIVE AND METHODS: We describe a case of the lymphohistiocytic variant of PC-ALCL with a marked follicular involvement. The lesion appeared as a single nodule in the face that completely regressed following biopsy. A diffuse infiltratio

Anaplastic lymphoma kinase-positive anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALK+ ALCL) originates from the T-lineage and is marked by rearrangements of the ALK gene. More than 10 fusion partners with the ALK gene are known, with the most common being the t(2;5)(p23;q35) translocation resulting in the NPM1::ALK fusion. In 10% to 20% of the ALK+ ALCL cases, the ALK gene fuses with various other partners. Modern molecular techniques, especially next-generation sequencing (NGS), have eased the identification of ALK gene fusion partners and have allowed in-depth characterization of the T-cell receptor (TCR

Anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL) is children's most common mature T-cell neoplasm. The majority is positive for anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK). Initial presentation as a soft-tissue pelvic mass without nodal involvement is rare and can be easily misdiagnosed. We report a case of a 12-year-old male presenting with pain and movement restriction in the right extremity. Computed tomography (CT) scan revealed a solitary pelvic mass. Initial biopsy examination concluded rhabdomyosarcoma. After developing pediatric multisystemic inflammatory syndrome due to coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19),
