Accurate diagnosis of severe coronary stenosis based on resting magnetocardiography: a prospective, single-center, cross-sectional analysis.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the role of resting magnetocardiography in identifying severe coronary artery stenosis in patients with suspected coronary artery disease. METHODS: A total of 513 patients with angina symptoms were included and divided into two groups based on the extent of coronary artery disease determined by angiography: the non-severe coronary stenosis group (< 70% stenosis) and the severe coronary stenosis group (≥ 70% stenosis). The diagnostic model was constructed using magnetic field map (MFM) parameters, either individually or in combination with clinical indicators. The perfor

Predictive Accuracy of Magnetocardiography for Diagnosing Myocardial Ischemia in NSTE-ACS Patients With Residual Post-PCI Angina.

BACKGROUND: Post-percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) angina affects 20% to 40% of non-ST-segment elevation acute coronary syndrome (NSTE-ACS) survivors but remains a clinical challenge due to its unpredictable course. OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to validate a rapid 90-second optically pumped magnetometer magnetocardiography (OPM-MCG) test for diagnosing post-PCI angina and develop a predictive model using dynamic MCG parameters. METHODS: NSTE-ACS patients who underwent pre- and post-PCI OPM-MCG scans were included. Angina symptoms were assessed using the Seattle Angina Questionnaire Sh

Fetal magnetocardiography (fMCG): moving forward in the establishment of clinical reference data by advanced biomagnetic instrumentation and analysis.

Cardiotocography and echocardiography are currently standard for fetal heart monitoring. However, both do not provide adequate temporal resolution to measure fetal cardiac time intervals and detect arrhythmias, which can occur during normal sinus rhythm. Fetal magnetocardiography (fMCG) is a non-invasive technique measuring magnetic signals generated by fetal heart activity. Most fMCG devices are installed in research institutions limiting the implementation of this method in a clinical setting. Several institutions made a step forward by installing devices, in particular for fetal investigati

Fetal atrial tachycardia diagnosed by magnetocardiography and direct fetal electrocardiography. A case report of treatment with propranolol hydrochloride.

At 26 weeks of gestation, fetal tachyarrhythmias (about 250 bpm) and ascites were detected by ultrasonography, and oral treatment with propranolol (30 mg/day) was commenced. Within 10 h, the fetal heart rate changed to approximately 85 bpm. The averaged fetal magnetocardiogram triggered by R peaks showed P wave and QRS complexes and an extra P wave. In addition, many extra nonconducted P-waves were detected in a fetal direct electrocardiogram. At 27 weeks of gestation, fetal tachycardia occurred again, and arrhythmia was diagnosed as the result of a blocked premature atrial contraction (PAC) w

Integration of Magnetocardiography and Coronary Computed Tomography Angiography With Machine Learning for Detection of Functionally Significant Myocardial Ischemia.

BACKGROUND: Functional assessment of myocardial ischemia is essential and can be evaluated noninvasively using coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA) and magnetocardiography (MCG). However, the diagnostic value of integrating CCTA and MCG has not been investigated. METHODS: This retrospective, single-center cohort study included 275 patients with suspected coronary artery disease (CAD) who underwent both CCTA and MCG examinations from December 2023 to June 2025. Functionally significant ischemia was defined by invasive fractional flow reserve (FFR) or CT-derived FFR (CT-FFR). Quantit

Utility of rest magnetocardiography in patients presenting to the emergency department with chest pain: A case series on the CardioFlux MCG.

BACKGROUND: Magnetocardiography (MCG) may provide a rapid diagnostic option for patients presenting with chest pain in the emergency department (ED). CASE SUMMARIES: This case series presents two instances from a multicenter study, where MCG could have served as a rapid, non-invasive diagnostic tool for chest pain patients. In both cases, multiple high-sensitivity troponin (hsTn) tests yielded incorrect evidence of ischemia. In the first case, multiple positive hsTn tests led to the patient requiring 23 h of observation care, while MCG rapidly ruled out acute coronary syndrome (ACS). In the s

Non-invasive magnetocardiography for the early diagnosis of coronary artery disease in patients presenting with acute chest pain.

BACKGROUND: Accurate identification of patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) is often difficult especially when an electrocardiogram (ECG) does not show typical elevation of ST segment. The aim of the present study was therefore to evaluate the efficacy of magnetocardiography (MCG) for diagnosis of ACS in patients with acute chest pain presenting without ST segment elevation. METHODS AND RESULTS: In the present retrospective study 364 patients with the suspected ACS without ST segment elevation were selected. Significant coronary artery disease (CAD) was defined as a stenosis > or =50%

Gestational diabetes alters the fetal heart rate variability during an oral glucose tolerance test: a fetal magnetocardiography study.

OBJECTIVE: Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) potentially harms the child before birth. We previously found GDM to be associated with developmental changes in the central nervous system. We now hypothesise that GDM may also impact on the fetal autonomic nervous system under metabolic stress like an oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT). DESIGN: We measured heart rate variability (HRV) of mothers and fetuses during a three-point OGTT using fetal magnetocardiography (fMCG). SETTING: Measurements were performed in the fMEG Centre in Tübingen. POPULATION: After exclusion of 23 participants, 13 pr

Atrioventricular conduction delay in fetuses exposed to anti-SSA/Ro and anti-SSB/La antibodies: a magnetocardiography study.

BACKGROUND: The presence of anti-SSA/Ro and anti-SSB/La antibodies during pregnancy is associated with fetal congenital heart block (CHB), which is primarily diagnosed through fetal echocardiography. Conclusive information about the complete electrophysiology of the fetal cardiac conducting system is still lacking. In addition to echocardiography, fetal magnetocardiography (fMCG) can be used. fMCG is the magnetic analogue of the fetal electrocardiogram (ECG). PATIENTS AND METHODS: Forty-eight pregnant women were enrolled in an observational study; 16 of them tested positive for anti-SSA/Ro an

Magnetocardiography study on ventricular depolarization-current pattern in patients with brugada syndrome and complete right-bundle branch blocks.

BACKGROUND: The objective of this study is to use magnetocardiography to determine the existence of a small abnormal current during ventricular depolarization in patients with Brugada syndrome. To understand this small difference in abnormal current during ventricular depolarization, we compared abnormal currents of patients with cases of complete right-bundle-branch block (CRBBB). METHODS AND RESULTS: We developed a whole-heart electrical bull's eye map (WHEBEM) that uses magnetocardiograms (MCGs) to visualize the current distribution in a circular map. MCGs of Brugada syndrome patients (n =

Waveband-resolved nonlinear characterization of SERF-magnetocardiography signals: a phase-space reconstruction framework for exploratory clinical cohort analysis.

BACKGROUND: Spin-exchange relaxation-free magnetocardiography (SERF-MCG) offers femtotesla-level sensitivity for noninvasive cardiac monitoring. Conventional analysis pipelines, largely adapted from linear electrocardiography, may not fully capture nonlinear dynamical patterns embedded in cardiac magnetic-field signals. In this retrospective and de-identified cohort study, we aimed to develop and evaluate a waveband-resolved nonlinear analysis framework for exploratory signal-level characterization of SERF-MCG recordings from stringently screened healthy adults and a heterogeneous clinical car

Utility of High-Resolution Magnetocardiography to Predict Later Cardiac Events in Nonischemic Cardiomyopathy Patients With Normal QRS Duration.

BACKGROUND: Nonischemic dilated cardiomyopathy (NIDCM) patients, even those with a narrow QRS, are at increased risk for major adverse cardiac events (MACE). We hypothesized that 64-channel magnetocardiography (MCG) would be useful to detect prognostic left intraventricular disorganized conduction (LiDC) by overcoming the limitations of fragmented QRS (fQRS, qualitative definitions, low specificity) and late potential (abnormality undetectable in earlier QRS). METHODS AND RESULTS: We evaluated LiDC on MCG, defined as significant deviation from a global clockwise left ventricular (LV) activati

Magnetocardiography for Exploratory Risk Stratification in Patients With Three-Vessel Coronary Artery Disease: A Single-Center Prospective Cohort Study.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Patients with three-vessel coronary artery disease (3V-CAD) remain at heterogeneous risk for major adverse cardiovascular and cerebrovascular events (MACCE) after revascularization. Magnetocardiography (MCG) is a noncontact and radiation-free technique that may capture electrophysiological abnormalities not reflected by anatomical risk scores. This study evaluated the exploratory prognostic value of MCG-derived parameters in patients with 3V-CAD. METHODS: This single-center prospective cohort study included 544 patients with 3V-CAD who underwent coronary revascularization

Prenatal Diagnosis of Atrioventricular Block and QT Interval Prolongation by Fetal Magnetocardiography in a Fetus with Trisomy 18 and SCN5A R1193Q Variant.

We report a case of fetal trisomy 18 with SCN5A R1193Q variant that presented with sinus bradycardia, 2 : 1 atrioventricular block (AVB), and QT interval prolongation. These complex arrhythmias were diagnosed by fetal magnetocardiography combined with ultrasound findings. Advanced AVB and ventricular arrhythmias were confirmed after birth. Genetic testing of the baby revealed a SCN5A R1193Q variant, which we considered could account for the various arrhythmias in this case.

Electrical space-time abnormalities of ventricular depolarization in patients with Brugada syndrome and patients with complete right-bundle branch blocks studied by magnetocardiography.

BACKGROUND: Both ventricular depolarization abnormalities (QRS complex) and repolarization ones (ST/T) are still controversial in literature. The objective of this study was to clarify the space-time variations that occur in patients carriers of Brugada syndrome using Magnetocardiography and also compare them with cases of complete right-bundle branch block (CRBBB) and individuals without any dromotropic disorder (control group). METHODS AND RESULTS: Magnetocardiograms (MCGs) of Brugada syndrome patients (n = 16), CRBBB patients (n = 14), and members of a control group (n = 46) at rest were r

Effect of prenatal antiarrhythmic treatment on cardiac function in a twin pregnancy.

We present a case of supraventricular tachycardia affecting one fetus in a twin pregnancy. Before and after treatment with flecainide and cardioversion, we examined conduction times and heart rate variability (HRV) in both twins on the basis of magnetocardiography. Cardiac conduction times increased in both fetuses but HRV showed opposing effects with a number of HRV measures. This case demonstrates that magnetocardiography not only enables identification of fetal arrhythmia, but also permits the investigation of the effects of antiarrhythmic treatment on the conductive system as well as on in

Fetal Atrial Flutter: Electrophysiology and Associations With Rhythms Involving an Accessory Pathway.

BACKGROUND: Atrial flutter (AFl) accounts for up to one third of all fetal tachyarrhythmias and can result in premature delivery, hydrops, and fetal death in 10% of cases; however, the electrophysiology of AFl in utero is virtually unstudied. METHODS AND RESULTS: In this observational study, we reviewed 19 fetal magnetocardiography studies from 16 fetuses: 15 fetuses (21-38 weeks' gestation) referred with an echocardiographic diagnosis of AFl and 1 fetus (20 weeks' gestation) referred with a diagnosis of tachycardia that was shown by fetal magnetocardiography to have transient AFl in addition

Low Baseline Fetal Heart Rate Leads to Diagnosis of Long QT Syndrome Type 1.

A low baseline fetal heart rate at 20 weeks' gestation was detected in a fetus without cardiac structural anomalies. Fetal echocardiography and magnetocardiography were used to diagnose congenital long QT syndrome. It was confirmed in the neonate, and the same pathogenic variant in KCNQ1 was subsequently identified in the mother.
