Evaluation of pharyngeal airway volume three-dimensionally in various sagittal skeletal patterns - Systematic review.

To investigate the pharyngeal airway volume in different anteroposterior skeletal malocclusions. This study was prepared according to the Cochrane criteria for creating a systematic review and meta-analysis and confirms the preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses (PRISMA) statement. This search was conducted to answer the patient/population, intervention, comparison and outcomes (PICO) question: To evaluate (outcome) and compare (comparison) whether there is a difference in airway volume in patients (participants) with different skeletal malocclusions diagnosed using

Quantum of dentoalveolar compensation in class III malocclusion : Systematic review and meta-analysis.

AIM: This systematic review aimed to assess and quantify the dentoalveolar compensation in skeletal class III malocclusion subjects. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Untreated class III subjects whose dentoalveolar compensations were radiologically evaluated were included. Predetermined inclusion and exclusion criteria were applied across PubMed, Scopus, LILACS, Ovid, and Web of Science electronic databases up to 27 January 2025, with no restriction on the year of publication. A total of 1007 articles were obtained, of which 10 studies met the eligibility criteria and were included in the systematic re

Growth modification of the face: A current perspective with emphasis on Class III treatment.

A summary of the current status of modification of jaw growth indicates the following. 1. Transverse expansion of the maxilla is easy before adolescence, requires heavy forces to create microfractures during adolescence, and can be accomplished only with partial or complete surgical osteotomy after adolescence. Transverse expansion of the mandible or constriction of either jaw requires surgery. 2. Acceleration of mandibular growth in preadolescent or adolescent patients can be achieved, but slower than normal growth afterward reduces or eliminates a long-term increase in size of the mandible.

Assessment of curve of spee in different malocclusions.

PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to compare the depth of curve of Spee (COS) in Angle Class I, Angle Class II and Angle Class III malocclusions. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The Samples were chosen among the diagnostic materials in İstanbul Medipol University Department of Orthodontics. Ninety plaster models were chosen, and were divided into 3 groups (n=30) according to Angle dental malocclusion classification. The depth of curve of Spee was measured on left and right sides of mandibular dental models and mean values were used as depth of curve of Spee. ANOVA test was used to evaluate normally d

Comparison of Speech Defects in Different Types of Malocclusion.

Introduction Speech has a great impact on human evolution, allowing for the widespread knowledge and advancement of tools. Difficulty in pronouncing one or more sounds is the most common speech impairment. Speech defects are more commonly associated with class III malocclusion patients (difficulty in pronouncing 's' and 't' sounds), the second in line is class II malocclusion (difficulty in pronouncing 's' and 'z' sounds), and speech distortions are least affected in class I malocclusion (difficulty in pronouncing 's' and 'Sh'). Most patients with dentofacial disharmonies and speech distortion

Genetic and Molecular Determinants of Familial Transmission of Skeletal Malocclusions.

Families studies conducted in different ethnic populations worldwide have helped elucidate the molecular and genetic factors involved in the development of skeletal class III malocclusion. Therefore, the aim of this study is to provide an updated summary. The study followed the JBI Manual for Evidence Synthesis and PRISMA-scR guidelines. PubMed, Scopus, WOS, Google Scholar and DANS databases were explored using specific strategies. Eligible studies included linkage and genome-wide analyses, while association studies, case reports and in vivo/in vitro research were excluded. The included studie

Quantifying health utilities of young adult orthodontic patients using the time trade-off method: a cross-sectional study.

OBJECTIVE: To study the feasibility of time trade-off (TTO) method in quantifying health utility ratings in different types of malocclusion. MATERIAL AND METHODS: In this cross-sectional study, 70 orthodontic patients aged 18 years or above, reporting for treatment/consultation, were included and interviewed. Malocclusion-related health utilities were assessed through the TTO method, and oral health-related quality of life was measured with the help of Orthognathic Quality of Life Questionnaire (OQLQ). Sex-Dependent Prevalence of Sagittal Skeletal, Dental Malocclusions in Romanian Orthodontic Patients: An Observational Study.

Objectives: The present study aimed to evaluate the sexual dimorphism of skeletal and dental anomalies in Romanian orthodontic patients and to describe several important cephalometric measurements in patients with dental malocclusions. Materials and Methods: A total of 450 orthodontic records of patients older than 8 years were evaluated. On lateral cephalometric radiographs, the following cephalometric angles were digitally determined: SNA, SNB, ANB, FMA, IMPA, Max1-FH, SN-Go-Gn, N-A-Pog, Ar-Go-Me, and interincisal angle. The sagittal skeletal and dental malocclusions were diagnosed by two ca

PURPOSE: To investigate the value of PAR index combined with cephalometry in evaluating the efficacy of mild to moderate skeletal Class Ⅲ malocclusion. METHODS: Sixty-five adult patients with skeletal Class Ⅲ malocclusion were selected and divided into group C (camouflage therapy) and group S (orthodontic-orthognathic surgery)according to different treatment methods. PAR index and cephalometric values before and after treatment in each group were compared, and then the differences of PAR index and cephalometric values before and after treatment between the two groups were compared. Evaluation of factors related to morphological masseter muscle changes after preoperative orthodontic treatment in female patients with skeletal class III dentofacial deformities.

BACKGROUND: The purpose of the current study was to investigate factors related to morphological changes in the masseter muscle after preoperative orthodontic treatment in patients with skeletal class III dentofacial deformities for analysis of muscle changes and malocclusions. METHODS: Twenty female patients with dentofacial deformities were included in the study. Computed tomography was performed before and after preoperative orthodontic treatment, and the lengths, widths, and cross-sectional areas of the masseter muscles were measured. Changes in these parameters were evaluated, and factor
