Severely resorbed mandibles with only cortical bone remaining can fracture during or after implant placement. This case series presents a technique to reduce the risk or the consequences of mandibular fracture. Seven patients with only cortical mandibular bone remaining were treated with the fixation of a titanium plate in the frontal surface previously to implant placement, during the same surgical procedure. Immediate complete-arch implant supported prosthesis were installed. Patient's systemic and local conditions that could influence implant survival were registered previously to surgery a

The prosthetic management of the edentulous patient has long been a major challenge. Complete maxillary and mandibular dentures have been the traditional standard of care. However, most of the patients report problems adapting to their mandibular denture due to a lack of comfort, retention, stability and inability to masticate. Implant-supported overdentures have been a common treatment for edentulous patients for the past 20 years and predictably achieve good clinical results. Implant supported overdentures offer many practical advantages over conventional complete dentures and removable part

Several impression techniques and theories have been developed for implant-retained overdentures, each with its own set of advantages and limitations. This study aimed to assess the chewing efficiency of mandibular implant-retained overdentures fabricated using three distinct impression techniques (mucofunctional, selective, and minimal pressure impression techniques). Twenty-six patients with complete edentulism free from any oral or systemic disease were selected to participate in the study. Three complete mandibular implant-retained overdentures were constructed for each patient, and groupe

We reported one case of a patient with Sjögren's syndrome and dental implant. This patient was followed up for more than one year. The patient was diagnosed with Sjögren's syndrome for 5 years and treated with long-term corticosteroid. Four implant-tissue interface hydrophilic implants were placed on 15, 16, 44, and 46 of the mandibular and maxillary areas. After the surgery was completed, the patient was treated with oral antibiotic and "shenggu pills" to prevent infection and glucocorticoid to manage Sjögren's syndrome. Consequently, six implants were placed in other parts of the mandibular

PURPOSE: This study was conducted to evaluate the feasibility of placing fixed prostheses over endosseous implants in edentulous patients with recessive dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: Three cases of dental implants with fixed prostheses are presented. All 3 patients had marked oral involvement, with devastating alterations in the soft and hard tissues. The use of fixed prostheses avoids contact between the prosthesis itself and the oral mucosa, thus preventing the formation of blisters.
RESULTS: A total of 27 implants (15 maxillary and 12 mandibular) were placed. One

THE AIM OF THE STUDY: Was to create a finite element design to evaluate the masticatory stress distribution on the full fixed prosthesis with three supporting implants and the mandibular bone in the conditions most closely resembling the real ones.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: The geometric design was created with the results of a CBCT of a real patient. The transfer of the DICOM into STL format was carried out in the Mimics Medical 21 program, in which the author's splinting device for the implant was designed. The actual thicknesses of the patient's compact and cancellous bone layers were measure

Ectodermal dysplasia, a disorder inherited through an X-linked recessive trait, is characterized by abnormalities in two or more structures that originate in the ectoderm. Dental manifestations include missing or malformed teeth. This clinical report details 16 years of interdisciplinary management, starting at age 7 and concluding after skeletal maturation, for a patient with ectodermal dysplasia. Initial treatment included an implant-assisted mandibular overdenture and a maxillary partial prosthesis to improve mastication, speech, and esthetics and to preserve alveolar bone. The prostheses w

Large defects of the human face often cause esthetic as well as functional disorders. We present a new technique for reconstruction of the mandible with prosthodontic rehabilitation in a single surgery, using the implant-supported, bar-retained overdenture as an external fixator. A 58-year-old patient presented with a near total defect of the mandible after cancer resection. For rehabilitation, the mandibular condyles were virtually positioned in the centre of the fossae, and four dental implants were planned. The position of the fibula segments as well as their angulation and lengths were ada

Functional and esthetic reconstruction of a patient with microgenia who sustained traumatic injury was successfully accomplished using Brånemark System osseointegrated implants (Nobel Biocare USA, Inc., Yorba Linda, CA) to support a permanent dental prosthesis following mechanical and biologic reconstruction of the anterior mandible and chin. A 25-year-old glycine chin implant previously used for facial esthetic enhancement had eroded the anterior cortical plate and migrated through the medullary bone, compressing the periosteum into the apex of the anterior tooth roots. Further destruction of

Preventive dentistry is mainly concerned with caries and periodontal disease and little or no attention is paid to the prevention of alveolar bone loss. An overdenture contributes to the preservation of alveolar bone and offers a number of advantages in comparison to a conventional complete denture. After tooth extraction the atrophy of edentulous lower jaws can be prevented or delayed by using implants supporting an overdenture or a fixed mandibular prosthesis. Hydroxyapatite implants have been studied as submerged tooth root substitutes and have proven to be able to preserve the bulk of the
