Mangifera indica L. extract (Vimang®) reduces plasma and liver cholesterol and leucocyte oxidative stress in hypercholesterolemic LDL receptor deficient mice.

Cardiovascular diseases are major causes of death worldwide. Beyond the classical cholesterol risk factor, other conditions such as oxidative stress are well documented to promote atherosclerosis. The Mangifera indica L. extract (Vimang®) was reported to present antioxidant and hypocholesterolemic properties. Thus, here we evaluate the effects of Vimang treatment on risk factors of the atherosclerosis prone model of familial hypercholesterolemia, the LDL receptor knockout mice. Mice were treated with Vimang during 2 weeks and were fed a cholesterol-enriched diet during the second week. The Vim

Protein kinase activities in ripening mango, Mangifera indica L., fruit tissue. III. Purification and characterisation of a calcium-regulated protein kinase.

A calcium-dependent protein kinase (PK-III), not requiring calmodulin for activity, was purified from extracts of ripening mango fruit tissue. Purification was achieved by ammonium sulfate fractionation and sequential anion exchange-, hydrophobic interaction-, dye ligand affinity- and gel filtration chromatography; which allowed a recovery of 1-5% of the total available kinase activity. The final specific activity in the presence of 1 mM Ca2+ was consistently 9 nmol min-1mg-1. The purified enzyme was a monomer with a Mr of 49000, but was resolved by denaturing electrophoresis into two related

Mangifera indica gum-mediated sol-gel synthesis of ZnO photocatalysts with tunable structure and controlled defect distribution for efficient metronidazole degradation.

Zinc oxide photocatalysts were synthesized through a sol-gel route using Mangifera indica gum as a renewable macromolecular gelation and templating agent. Thermal analysis revealed three main degradation stages of the gum, including ~14% moisture loss up to ~150-170 °C, ~52.5% polysaccharide decomposition between ~170 and 400 °C, and an additional ~27% mass loss associated with carbonization between 400 and 600 °C, guiding the calcination of ZnO gels at 400 and 600 °C. Structural analysis confirmed the formation of pure hexagonal wurtzite ZnO, with lattice parameters a = 3.2491 (1) Å, c = 5.20

Bioactive-rich Mangifera indica leaf extracts alleviate inflammation, pain, and fever via suppression of pro-inflammatory cytokines and activation of Nrf2 pathways.

Leaves of Mangifera indica (mango) are traditionally used to alleviate inflammation and pain, yet their bioactive chemical profiles and mechanisms of action remain underexplored. Given the growing demand for safer, plant-derived therapeutics as alternatives to conventional anti-inflammatory and analgesic drugs with known adverse effects, a deeper understanding of the bioactive composition of M. indica leaf is both timely and necessary. This study investigates the metabolomic composition and therapeutic potential of leaf extracts from two cultivars-Zebda and Alphonso. Aqueous, ethanol, n-butano

Occurrence of alk(en)ylresorcinols in the fruits of two mango (Mangifera indica L.) cultivars during on-tree maturation and postharvest storage.

Regarding their relevance for the fungal resistance of mangoes in long supply chains, the alk(en)ylresorcinols (AR) were quantitated in peel and mesocarp throughout storage (27 days, 14 °C, ethylene absorption). The 12 'Chok Anan' and 11 'Nam Dokmai #4' lots picked between 83 and 115 days after full bloom (DAFB) had different harvest maturity indices. The development of dry matter and fruit growth indicated physiological maturity ∼100 DAFB. During storage, all fruits ripened slowly, mostly until over-ripeness and visible decay. The total AR contents always ranged at 73 ± 4.5 and 6.4 ± 0.7 mg h

In Vitro and Ex Vivo Evaluation of Mangifera indica L. Extract-Loaded Green Nanoparticles in Topical Emulsion against Oxidative Stress and Aging.

Although Mangifera indica L. extract (M-Ext) of the peel and kernel possesses potent antioxidant and excellent antiaging qualities, the effects are only partially seen because of the skin's limited ability to absorb it. M-Ext was loaded into nanolipid carriers (M-NLCs) in this work to create a green topical formulation that would boost antiaging efficacy and address penetration deficit. Compound identification was done using GCMS and atomic absorption spectroscopy for heavy metals in M-Ext. M-Ext was also evaluated against oxidative stress antioxidant enzymes. The M-NLCs were fabricated and ev

Multifunctional engineering of Mangifera indica L. peel extract-modified bacterial cellulose hydrogel: Unveiling novel strategies for enhanced heavy metal sequestration and cytotoxicity evaluation.

The escalating interest in bacterial cellulose (BC) confronts a substantial obstacle due to its biologically inert properties. Hence, BC was modified with ethanolic mango peel extract (EEMP) for various industrial and medical applications of the novel nanocomposite (BC/EEMP). High-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) delineated the phenolic composition of EEMP, revealing a repertoire of polyphenolic compounds, notably chlorogenic acid, gallic acid, catechin, and ellagic acid. EEMP exhibited broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity against Candida albicans and Staphylococcus aureus, with MIC o

Quantitative determination of allergenic 5-alk(en)ylresorcinols in mango (Mangifera indica L.) peel, pulp, and fruit products by high-performance liquid chromatography.

Despite a number of serious case reports of mango dermatitis, no attempts at the identification and quantification of allergenic 5-alk(en)ylresorcinols in mango fruits have so far been made. Therefore, total alk(en)ylresorcinol content and relative homologue composition in 13 mango peel samples and 7 samples of mango pulp were determined by HPLC and LC-MS/MS analyses. Furthermore, mango puree and nectar prepared on pilot plant scale were also analyzed and compared with commercially available thermally preserved products. Depending on cultivar, alk(en)ylresorcinol contents ranged from 79.3 to 1

Heat susceptibility evaluation among 100 mango (Mangifera indica) genotypes: a comparative study on leaf cell membrane stability at high temperatures using electrolyte leakage.

High-temperature stress induced by global warming can hinder the production of commercial cultivars in mangoes (Mangifera indica L.). Selecting cultivars with high-temperature tolerance is essential. We evaluated damage to leaf cell membranes as an indicator of high-temperature tolerance in mangoes. An evaluation method using leaf-electrolyte leakage was established by comparing the temperature responses of several genotypes, and then applied to 100 genotypes, including major cultivars worldwide. Genotypic differences in high-temperature tolerance were verified based on the climate of selectio
