Mammary carcinoma was diagnosed in two women aged 31 and 38 years after they had been subjected to mantle irradiation for Hodgkin's disease at the ages of 17 and 20 years, respectively. Breast amputation was performed in one case, lumpectomy in the other; the subsequent courses were uncomplicated. During follow-up there was no sign of recurrence. Although most postoperative upper extremity neuropathies are caused by extremes of position or intraoperative manipulation of the arm, nerve injury is possible without either of these. Pedicled TRAM flap surgery, during which no axillary retraction or hyperabduction of the arm is used, is not free of risk for neural injury. More studies are needed to specifically define risk-related maneuvers for these and other anesthetized patients.

Sodium warfarin was administered to a 59-year-old woman with congestive cardiac failure and deep vein thrombosis. After 3 days of therapy the nipple and areola of the left breast became inflamed; the entire breast then became necrotic. Gangrene spread and a simple mastectomy was performed. BACKGROUND: Breast sonography is commonly used as a follow-up imaging modality for the patients with a history of breast cancer surgery in Korea. It would be necessary to compare its efficacy with other examinations in order to justify inclusion of breast sonography among the routine follow-up imaging modalities.
PURPOSE: To retrospectively compare the efficacies of clinical breast examination, mammography, and ultrasonography (US), and to evaluate the additional value of US for the detection of recurrent breast cancer in patients with a history of breast cancer surgery.

BACKGROUND: Skin- and nipple-sparing mastectomies (SSMs/NSMs) present as an alternative for patients requiring mastectomy, with better aesthetic results. We aimed to evaluate the locoregional recurrence (LRR) rate and its predictive factors.
METHODS: Retrospective analysis of all consecutive cases of SSM and NSM for a primary diagnosis of in situ or invasive breast cancer, at a national cancer center, from January 1st, 2013 to May 31st, 2019. The primary outcome was LRR. Secondary outcomes included LRR predictive factors, overall survival (OS), and disease-free survival (DFS).

Twenty-three cases of breast carcinoma in situ (12 with intraductal carcinoma and 11 with lobular carcinoma in situ) seen at Charleston Area Medical Center between 1957 and 1977 were reviewed. It is our belief that subcutaneous mastectomy often leads to complications, with poor results. In addition, because a considerable amount of breast tissue may be left behind, its value as a prophylactic operation must be questioned. Two alternatives are presented. PURPOSE: We sought to evaluate whether patients with breast cancer who undergo a total mastectomy (TM) can safely forgo a completion axillary lymph node dissection (cALND) in the presence of one to three positive sentinel lymph nodes (SLN+).
METHODS: A multicenter retrospective cohort study (2012-2022) was conducted in patients with cT1-3cN0 who underwent TM with 1-3 SLN+ compared by cALND versus. no further surgery. Malignant phyllodes tumors are an uncommon breast tumor in clinical practice of surgery. The study population consisted of five consecutive patients. Between 1960 and 1984, 51 patients with Paget's disease of the nipple, with no concomitant palpable or radiological breast tumour, were treated at the Institut Curie. The diagnosis was made in all cases through a simple biopsy of the nipple and/or the areola. All slides were reviewed for the present study. 20/51 patients were treated conservatively, with external radiotherapy alone (17/20 pts), or limited surgery and radiotherapy (3/20 pts). Phyllodes tumour (PT) is a rare breast tumor with mixed connective and epithelial components, which usually relapses topically after excision. Histologically the early histological findings of the carcinoma of the breast enclose lobular and intraductal carcinoma in situ, and atypical epithelial proliferation. Without mastectomy a considerable percentage of these cases will develop invasive carcinoma. In order to detect these early forms of carcinoma mammography should be carried out. Following this procedure a more precisely located histological examination can be performed. The treatment consists of simple mastectomy.
