Medication for Opioid Use Disorder in recovery housing: A statewide secret shopper audit of Florida Certified Recovery Residences.

BACKGROUND: Florida is facing a public health crisis involving opioid use disorder (OUD). One critical recovery support service is recovery housing, which has historically demonstrated inconsistent acceptance of patients taking Medication for Opioid Use Disorder (MOUD). Heparin infusion and haemorrhagic complications in patients treated with modified Blalock-Taussig shunt: significance of a nurse and medical audit.

INTRODUCTION: The modified Blalock-Taussig shunt is a surgical option in cyanotic patients. In our Institute heparin infusion therapy in the early postoperative period is used to reduce the risk of shunt thrombosis. This may produce haemorrhagic complications. Herein we describe the effect of a multidisciplinary audit to reduce the risk of haemorrhagic complications. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Between January 2005 and December 2009, 49 patients received a modified Blalock-Taussig shunt and anticoagulation therapy until the second administration of an antiplatelet drug. Four patients (8.1%) experie

In-person versus telehealth video: A retrospective audit of medication prescriptions, orders, and patient instructions in ambulatory nephrology care.

IntroductionThe COVID-19 pandemic greatly expanded the use of telehealth in nephrology, and telehealth remains a popular modality for kidney care. However, there are no consensus guidelines on the implementation of telehealth in ambulatory nephrology care. To examine this field further, we examined the association between clinic encounter modality (in-person versus telehealth) with provider actions to advance patient care plans in one academic nephrology practice.MethodsElectronic health records from 26,170 telehealth video and 11,558 in-person encounters from January 2020 to December 2024 wer

Impact of Electronic Prescribing on Parkinson's Disease Medication Management: A Retrospective Before-and-After Audit at a UK Teaching Hospital.

BACKGROUND: Parkinson's disease (PD) medications are classified as time-critical, with delays or omissions potentially leading to increased morbidity, prolonged admissions, and worsened clinical outcomes. The introduction of electronic prescribing (EPR) has shown potential to reduce prescribing errors, but its impact on PD-specific medication safety remains unclear. This audit aimed to evaluate the accuracy and timeliness of PD medication prescribing and administration before and after the implementation of EPR at a UK teaching hospital. METHODS: A retrospective clinical audit was conducted a

Comparative Evaluation of Annual and Comprehensive Maintenance Contracts for Reducing Medical Equipment Downtime in a Tertiary Care Hospital: An Observational Audit.

BACKGROUND: Medical equipment availability is essential for safe, continuous, and efficient care delivery in tertiary care hospitals. Downtime of diagnostic, operative, monitoring, and life-support equipment can disrupt clinical services, delay procedures, and compromise patient safety. Maintenance models such as Annual Maintenance Contracts (AMC), Comprehensive Maintenance Contracts (CMC), warranty coverage, and in-house repair systems differ in scope, cost predictability, and risk protection. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to comparatively evaluate maintenance-contract coverage and equipment f

Medical oxygen service readiness and service coverage in seven countries in Africa and Asia: a cross-sectional survey and clinical audit.

BACKGROUND: The COVID-19 pandemic revealed long-standing deficits in access to lifesaving medical oxygen, especially in low-income and middle-income countries (LMICs). We aimed to evaluate availability and use of pulse oximetry and medical oxygen in seven LMICs in Asia and Africa to establish a baseline to inform the Medical Oxygen Project (MOXY) and national oxygen plans, and to allow for a future pre-post intervention evaluation. METHODS: We conducted a cross-sectional facility survey and retrospective clinical audit of pulse oximetry and medical oxygen availability and use in government pr

A 5-year audit of accidental dural punctures, postdural puncture headaches, and failed regional anesthetics at a tertiary-care medical center.

Obstetric anesthesia-related complications occur as a result of labor epidural or spinal placement. The purpose of this continuous quality-improvement audit was to review the occurrence of accidental dural punctures (ADPs), postdural puncture headaches (PDPHs), and failed regional anesthetics at an academic tertiary-care medical center over a 5-year period. Obstetric anesthesia complications contained in three databases consisting of ADPs, PDPHs, and failed regional anesthetics were matched to a perinatal database, with no complications serving as controls. Improvement in mammography interpretation skills in a community radiology practice after dedicated teaching courses: 2-year medical audit of 38,633 cases.

The authors conducted a complete audit of results of 38,633 mammographic examinations performed by 12 general radiologists during a 2-year period with a computerized reporting system. During this period, 11 group members attended 17 dedicated mammography courses. Audit results were analyzed for each radiologist and the entire group. In the 2nd year, the number of breast cancers diagnosed increased 50% (from 121 to 181), with a 6.5% increase in patient volume. Sensitivity increased from 80% to 87%, and there was no change in the positive predictive value of 32%. Median tumor size and node posit
