[Nutritional assessment of a university population].

In this work, we have planned to perform a nutritional assessment of a group of 50 students from the University of Granada, to which questionnaires have been administered relating to 24-hour remembrance of type and frequency of food consumption, for 30 days. In order to know macro- and micronutrients intake, the results have been analyzed with DietSource software. At the same time, anthropometrical measurements have been taken to verify their possible change during the study period. We have been able to observe a protein intake slightly higher than the recommended intake, similarly to what occ

Development and initiation of computer generated documentation for burn patient care.

Burn care is costly, complex, and poorly reimbursed. Capturing evaluation and management codes is an essential step in obtaining reimbursement for services rendered. For surgeons used to billing on the basis of Current Procedural Terminology codes, this represents a significant paradigm shift. In an effort to document the care provided and increase compliance with billing standards, we created computerized history and physical examination notes and progress notes specifically for burn patients. Drop down menus are included to answer directed queries, which allows the majority of the documentat

Health-promoting housing policy in a changing climate: integrating affordability, security, and resilience.

Housing is a fundamental determinant of health, yet many housing systems fail to promote well-being or address growing challenges such as climate change, inequality, and urbanization. It is increasingly treated as an investment vehicle and as a commercial product supporting the construction industry, with substantial interactions with climate change, rather than its fundamental role providing shelter. This perspective addresses this gap by proposing an integrated framework for health-promoting housing policy that combines affordability, security, and quality, paying particular attention to the

The impact of COVID-19 on the hot food takeaway planning regulatory environment: perspectives of local authority professionals in the North East of England.

AIMS: Planning regulations have been used to prevent the over-proliferation of hot food takeaways, minimising the impact of local obesogenic environments. To help mitigate the effects of lockdown, the UK government introduced temporary changes in March 2020 to Planning Regulations for England, allowing food retailers to open for takeaway services beyond 'ancillary' level without needing to apply for planning permission through permitted development rights (PDR). Businesses are required to notify their local authority (LA) when they implement PDRs. To better understand the impact of regulations

Managing the unmanageable: evidence-driven approaches to real-world patient prototypes of TP53-mutant myelodysplastic neoplasms and acute myeloid leukemia.

Patients with TP53 aberrations comprise the highest risk subset of all myeloid malignancies. The managerial conundrum of TP53-mutant myelodysplastic neoplasms (MDS) and acute myeloid leukemia (AML) stems from refractoriness to or relapse after conventional chemotherapy, as well as the limited translational success of investigational therapies targeting TP53-mutant cells. Thus far, no targeted therapies have been commercially approved for this mutational subset. As a result, management plans for patients with TP53-mutant MDS and AML are often driven by clinical judgment and/or physician prefere

Disparities in practice: implementation of health promotion policies in 2883 Hungarian schools with a focus on small-sized institutions.

While Holistic Health Promotion is mandated in Hungary, little is known about its school-level implementation, especially in small schools. We analyzed national data of 2883 elementary schools, and (i) compared the implementation between small (10-99 students) and not-small schools, and (ii) conducted county-level socioeconomic comparisons within the subsample of small schools. Health promotion activities were implemented inconsistently across schools. Small schools (N = 320) reported fewer structured working groups (9.7%) and lower engagement of school health staff in program development (doc

A digital tool for prevention and management of cold weather injuries-Cold Weather Ensemble Decision Aid (CoWEDA).

This paper describes a Cold Weather Ensemble Decision Aid (CoWEDA) that provides guidance for cold weather injury prevention, mission planning, and clothing selection. CoWEDA incorporates current science from the disciplines of physiology, meteorology, clothing, and computer modeling. The thermal performance of a cold weather ensemble is defined by endurance times, which are the time intervals from initial exposure until the safety limits are reached. These safety limits correspond to conservative temperature thresholds that provide a warning of the approaching onset of frostbite and/or hypoth

Implementing IDDSI in an Acute Care Setting: Experiences From the University Hospital Graz.

BACKGROUND: The International Dysphagia Diet Standardisation Initiative (IDDSI) framework establishes a global standard, with standardized terms, descriptors and measurement criteria, to enhance dysphagia care. This paper presents one of the first documented successful implementations of IDDSI in a large acute care hospital. The implementation at the University Hospital Graz, a 1554-bed acute care facility, took place between 2021 and 2024. The project aimed to standardize practices in five patient-focused areas to improve knowledge, and facilitate multiprofessional communication. METHODS: Ba

Promoting patient self-management following cardiac rehabilitation using a web-based application: A pilot study.

BACKGROUND: The use of health-related mobile apps has become an important component of healthcare. Patients can use a range of tools to strengthen their health literacy and promote disease management. The aim of the project was to develop a web-based application for use on smartphones, tablets and computers for patients with cardiovascular diseases (cardio-app). METHODS: A semi-standardized written survey was conducted among rehabilitation patients with cardiovascular diseases (n = 158). The usability of the cardio-app was assessed using the System Usability Scale (SUS). The usage behaviour w

A Descriptive Analysis of Mediterranean Diet Meal Plans Using the Dietary Inflammatory Index, Dietary Antioxidant Index, and Dietary Lipid Indices: Implications for Dietary Intervention for Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatotic Liver Disease (MASLD) Research.

Background/Objectives: Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) is a common chronic liver disorder linked to obesity, insulin resistance, and dyslipidemia. Nutrition plays a central role in modulating hepatic lipid metabolism, oxidative stress, and inflammation, yet practical, evidence-based dietary strategies remain limited. This study aimed to develop Mediterranean diet-based meal plans with varying macronutrient compositions and to characterize their nutritional profiles, as well as to evaluate them using established nutritional indices and diet score calculations, s

Assessing Preparedness for Nutritional Emergencies in Rural and Urban Healthcare Facilities: A Hospital-Based Cross-Sectional Study.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Effective management of nutritional emergencies requires healthcare professionals to be knowledgeable and prepared. Nutritional emergencies, characterized by chronic undernutrition and recurrent illness, lead to high stunting rates and increase the risk of rapid death in children under five by up to nine times. Nutritional emergencies, combined with limited access to healthcare and clean water, contribute to disease outbreaks like acute watery diarrhea and cholera. This study is crucial for evaluating Ghana's preparedness for nutritional emergencies and the need for an eff

Development of a culturally tailored medical nutrition therapy to improve dietary adherence in type 2 diabetes in Benin: an ORBIT model-based protocol.

BACKGROUND: Dietitian-led medical nutrition therapy (MNT) is an effective and cost-efficient strategy for improving dietary adherence and glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes (T2D). However, culturally adapted MNT interventions that account for local food systems, food security, and sociocultural eating practices remain scarce in African contexts. This paper describes the development of Objectif Santé Diabète Bénin (OSanDiaBé), a culturally tailored, dietitian-led MNT intervention designed to improve dietary adherence and glycemic control among adults with T2D in Benin, West Africa,
