Esophagogastroduodenoscopy Quality Improvement and the Role of Topical Antiperistaltic Agents: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

Gastric cancer (GC) represents one of the most lethal forms of cancer. When identified at an early stage, conventional treatment can be curative. The key to identifying GC at an early stage is high-quality esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD). This has led to an increased focus on quality standards in EGD to improve the detection rates of early GC and its premalignant lesions (PMLs), such as atrophic gastritis. In Asia, the routine use of antiperistaltic (antispasmodic) agents is advocated to improve the quality of mucosal visualization during diagnostic EGD. The rationale is that the cessation of

Efficient topical treatments of cutaneous lupus erythematosus: a systematic review and network -meta-analysis.

Although topical agents have been used to treat cutaneous lupus erythematosus (CLE), there was previously no high-quality evidence of which agents were most effective and which clinical scores were most suitable. On 22 December 2023, a search was conducted across five databases to identify randomized controlled trials (RCTs) for CLE. Two authors independently screened the titles and abstracts of articles based on predetermined criteria. Selected articles were then assessed for inclusion in a blinded manner, with any disagreements resolved through consensus. Data were abstracted in duplicate, a

Topical and systemic retinoids for the treatment of cutaneous viral warts: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Cutaneous viral warts (CVW), caused by human papillomavirus, often have a self-limited course. However, some patients experience a recalcitrant disease despite treatment. Retinoids are considered the mainstay of therapy in many dermatologic diseases. Data on their use for viral warts are limited. To systematically review the published evidence on the efficacy and safety of retinoids for the treatment of CVW. A systematic review and meta-analysis of topical or systemic retinoid treatment for CVW was performed in accordance with the PRISMA statement. The primary outcome was clinical response; se

Efficacy of photodynamic therapy combined with topical interventions for the treatment of actinic keratosis: a meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a highly effective treatment option for patients with actinic keratoses (AK). However, efficacy can be reduced by insufficient illumination or hyperkeratotic nature of lesions. OBJECTIVES: To investigate if PDT combined with a topical intervention is superior to monotherapy in terms of efficacy and tolerability. METHODS: A systematic literature research was conducted in Medline, Embase and CENTRAL. Pertinent trial registers were hand-searched for eligible randomized controlled trials (RCTs) until 20 August 2018. Results were pooled using a random eff

Topical antibiotics for acute bacterial conjunctivitis: Cochrane systematic review and meta-analysis update.

Uncertainty remains about the extent to which findings from our previously published systematic review and meta-analysis of double-blind, randomised controlled trials of topical antibiotics compared with placebo in the management of patients with acute bacterial conjunctivitis treated in secondary care outpatient settings are generalisable to the management of the condition in primary care settings. We updated our review, undertaking searches, methodological assessment, data extraction and analysis according to a pre-defined protocol. In addition to the previous three included studies, we iden
