Stereoselective Synthesis of (-)-Ambrox via Metalloporphyrin-Catalyzed C(sp3)-H Bond Oxidation of Hydrocarbons.

Ambrox is a naturally tricyclic terpenoid furan, which is mainly responsible for the characteristic pleasant odor of ambergris. A concise synthesis of racemic ambrox was accomplished in a ten-step linear sequence starting from commercially available dihydroboronal with an overall yield of 20.7%. The synthetic strategy features a Brønsted acid-mediated biomimetic cyclization of a monocyclic enol acetate and a late-stage C(sp3)-H bond hydroxylation of hydrocarbons catalyzed by an activated (CO)RuII(TPFPP) complex as the key steps. Building upon this approach, an enantioselective route to (-)-amb

Janus Subnanochannels in Metalloporphyrin-Based Conjugated Metal-Organic Frameworks Enable Ultrasensitive Humidity Monitoring.

Controlling water organization within confined spaces is essential for developing high-performance solid-state protonic and electronic devices. Here, we report a family of metalloporphyrin (MPp) based conjugated metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), MPp-Cu-O (M = Fe, Ni, and Cu), that features Janus-type subnanochannels with alternately arranged hydrophilic CuO4 linkages and hydrophobic aromatic zones. This channel design enables the chemical and spatial confinement of water molecules into moderately bound hydrogen-bond (H-bond) networks that balance adsorption stability and dynamic exchange. The c

Concentration-Adaptive Electrocatalytic Urea Synthesis From CO2 and Nitrate via Porphyrin and Metalloporphyrin MOFs.

Traditional urea synthesis via the Bosch-Meiser process suffers from high energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. Electrocatalytic urea production from carbon dioxide (CO2) and nitrate (NO3 -) under ambient conditions offers a sustainable alternative, yet challenges persist due to variable NO3 - concentrations and competing side reactions. Herein, we propose porphyrin metal-organic framework (PMOF) and Cu-porphyrin MOF (Cu-PMOF) catalysts for NO3 - concentration-adaptive urea synthesis. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations reveal that PMOF weakly adsorbs *NO2 via hydrogen bond

Metalloporphyrin reduced C70 fullerenes as adsorbents and detectors of ethenone; A DFT, NBO, and TD-DFT study.

In the present work, the structure and electronic properties of Ti-, Cr-, Fe-, Ni-, Zn-, and Cu-inserted in porphyrin-reduced C70 fullerenes (TM-PIC70Fs) and their interactions with the ethenone were studied using DFT, NBO, and TD-DFT at CAM-B3LYP/6-31G(d) level of theory. 2.89-3.83 and 4.02-4.56 eV were obtained for the HOMO-LUMO gap energies and work functions of TM-PIC70Fs, respectively, compared with 3.76 and 4.54 eV for PIC70F. Among considered TM-PIC70Fs, the adsorption of the ethenone on Ti-PIC70F appreciably changed the HOMO-LUMO energy gap and work function. Consequently, Ti-PIC70F ma

Dispersible and discrete metalloporphyrin-based CMP nanoparticles enabling colorimetric detection and quantitation of gaseous SO2.

Metalloporphyrin-based CMP nanoparticles synthesized by the oxidative dimerization of terminal alkynes in the toluene-in-water miniemulsion possess native porosity, outstanding solution processability and uniform nanosized distribution. Also, they exhibit the sensitive color-switching ability for quantitative assay of gaseous SO2 by the noncovalent complex-displacement reaction at liquid-solid or gas-solid interfaces.

17O NMR study of oxo metalloporphyrin complexes: correlation with electronic structure of M=O moiety.

(17)O NMR spectroscopy of oxo ligand of oxo metalloporphyrin can be considered as an excellent means to derive information about structure, electronic state, and reactivity of the metal bound oxo ligand. To show the utility of (17)O NMR spectroscopy of oxo ligand of oxo metalloporphyrin, (17)O NMR spectra of oxo ligands of dioxo ruthenium(VI), oxo chromium(IV), and oxo titanium(IV) porphyrins are measured. For all oxo metalloporphyrins, well-resolved (17)O NMR signals are detected in far high frequency region. The (17)O NMR signal of the metal bound oxo ligand shifts high frequency in order of

Potent metalloporphyrin peroxynitrite decomposition catalyst protects against the development of doxorubicin-induced cardiac dysfunction.

BACKGROUND: Increased oxidative stress and dysregulation of nitric oxide have been implicated in the cardiotoxicity of doxorubicin (DOX), a commonly used antitumor agent. Peroxynitrite is a reactive oxidant produced from nitric oxide and superoxide in various forms of cardiac injury. Using a novel metalloporphyrinic peroxynitrite decomposition catalyst, FP15, and nitric oxide synthase inhibitors or knockout mice, we now delineate the pathogenetic role of peroxynitrite in rodent models of DOX-induced cardiac dysfunction. METHODS AND RESULTS: Mice received a single injection of DOX (25 mg/kg IP

Thermodynamics and electronic structure evolution from single-H2 adsorption to stepwise hydrogen loading of Fe metalloporphyrin.

Designing molecular motifs that can bind hydrogen strongly enough for uptake yet weakly enough for deliverable release remains a central challenge for adsorptive storage. Here, we use dispersion-corrected density functional theory to map the complete hydrogen-loading pathway of an iron porphyrin (Fe-MP, Fe metalloporphyrin) scaffold from n = 1 to 20 H2, connecting optimized configurations to adsorption energetics, thermodynamics and electronic-structure fingerprints. A clear hierarchy of adsorption environments emerges: the first H2 binds at the Fe center with a short Fe⋯H2 contact and an elon

Metalloporphyrin nanosensor measurements in real time of nitric oxide release by endothelial nitric oxide synthase variants.

The production of nitric oxide is a key factor in signal transduction pathways within endothelial cells, and its dynamics of release are essential to understanding its biological function in the cardiovascular system. The present study aimed to investigate the dynamics of nitric oxide release by different endothelial nitric oxide synthase haplotypes. Metalloporphyrin modified carbon fiber nanosensor technology was applied to measure nitric oxide on a real-time scale from endothelial nitric oxide synthase haplotypes derived from human umbilical vein endothelial cells. Significant changes were o

Solvothermal preparation of an electrocatalytic metalloporphyrin MOF thin film and its redox hopping charge-transfer mechanism.

A thin film of a metalloporphyrin metal-organic framework consisting of [5,10,15,20-(4-carboxyphenyl)porphyrin]Co(III) (CoTCPP) struts bound by linear trinuclear Co(II)-carboxylate clusters has been prepared solvothermally on conductive fluorine-doped tin oxide substrates. Characterization of this mesoporous thin film material, designated as CoPIZA/FTO, which is equipped with large cavities and access to metal active sites, reveals an electrochemically active material. Cyclic voltammetry displays a reversible peak with E(1/2) at -1.04 V vs ferrocyanide attributed to the (Co(III/II)TCPP)CoPIZA

NMR, IR/Raman, and structural properties in HNO and RNO (R = alkyl and aryl) metalloporphyrins with implication for the HNO-myoglobin complex.

Structural and functional details of heme protein complexes with HNO and the isoelectronic RNO (R = alkyl and aryl) molecules (metabolic intermediates) are largely unknown. We report a quantum chemical investigation of three characteristic spectroscopic properties, (1)H and (15)N NMR chemical shifts and NO vibrational frequencies in synthetic HNO and RNO heme complexes, with theory-versus-experiment correlation coefficients R(2) = 0.990-0.998. A new density functional theory (DFT) method was found to yield excellent predictions of experimental structures of HNO, RNO, and NO heme systems. Inter

Renal-Clearable Metalloporphyrin Complex-Based Nanosonosensitizers Using Photoacoustic Imaging Guiding to Enhance Sonodynamic Cancer Therapy.

Sonodynamic therapy (SDT) is a noninvasive approach to tumor treatment, with ongoing efforts being focused on developing highly effective sonosensitizers with low toxicity. Herein, a liquid-phase stripping technique was introduced as a simple reflux method for synthesizing ultrasmall Mn-PCN-224 nanodots (MM NDs). Compared with PCN-224 nanodots, the synthesized MM NDs, which function as renal-clearable nanoagents, produced 2.42 times more reactive oxygen species (ROS) under identical ultrasound (US) irradiation conditions. In vivo and in vitro experiments revealed that A549 lung cancer cells tr

Using Metalloporphyrin Nanosensors for In Situ Monitoring and Measurement of Nitric Oxide and Peroxynitrite in a Single Human Neural Progenitor Cell.

Nitric oxide (NO) is an inorganic signaling molecule that plays a crucial role in the regulation of numerous physiological functions. An oxidation product of the cytoprotective NO is cytotoxic peroxynitrite (ONOO-). In biological systems, the concentrations of NO and ONOO- are typically transient, ranging from nanomolar to micromolar, and these increases are normally followed by a swift return to their basal levels due to their short life spans. To understand the vital physiological role of NO and ONOO- in vitro and in vivo, sensitive and selective methods are necessary for direct and continuo

An orally active catalytic metalloporphyrin protects against 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine neurotoxicity in vivo.

Parkinson's disease (PD) is an age-related neurodegenerative disease in which the role of reactive oxygen species (ROS) is strongly implicated. The presence of oxidative stress has been detected in human and experimental PD using both direct and indirect indices. Scavenging ROS is, therefore, an important therapeutic avenue for the treatment of PD. Manganic porphyrins are catalytic antioxidants that scavenge a wide range of ROS. In this study, we tested the therapeutic effects of a compound [5,15-bis(methoxycarbonyl)-10,20-bis-trifluoromethyl-porphyrinato manganese (III) chloride (AEOL11207)]

Metalloporphyrin-based hybrid photocatalyst for bisphenol A degradation: kinetics, HRMS-based analysis of transformation products, and toxicity assessment.

Bisphenol A (BPA) is a persistent endocrine-disrupting compound frequently detected in aquatic environments and inadequately removed by conventional wastewater treatment processes. In this work, a visible-light-active TiO2-metalloporphyrin hybrid photocatalyst was developed via surface sensitization of TiO2 with zinc tetrakis(4-carboxyphenyl)porphyrin (ZnTCPP) and evaluated for BPA degradation in aqueous media. The hybrid material was characterized by UV-Vis spectroscopy (UV-Vis), Fourier Transform Infrared (FT-IR) Spectroscopy, powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), and scanning electron microscopy

Metalloporphyrin- and Phosphonium-Bifunctionalized Porous Organic Polymers for Efficient Synergistic Catalysis of CO2 Conversion under Mild Conditions.

Functional porous organic polymers (POPs) have been widely developed as heterogeneous catalysts for carbon dioxide (CO2) conversion. However, the integration of multifunctional active sites into POPs remains a major challenge. Herein, a facile postsynthesis modification strategy was explored to fabricate metalloporphyrin- and phosphonium-bifunctionalized POPs (TAPPM-PTBAR) as the heterogeneous catalysts for CO2 conversion. The as-developed catalysts were characterized in detail using various techniques. The results illustrated that the novel POP catalysts featured abundant Lewis acid metal cen

The role of inorganic metals and metalloporphyrins in the induction of haem oxygenase and heat-shock protein 70 in human hepatoma cells.

The role of inorganic metals and metalloporphyrins in the induction of mRNAs for haem oxygenase and heat-shock protein 70 (hsp70), the two heat-shock proteins, was examined in human HepG2 and Hep3B hepatoma cells. SnCl2, but not Sn-protoporphyrin, was found to be a potent inducer of both haem oxygenase and hsp70 mRNAs. In contrast, CoCl2, ZnCl2 and FeCl2 caused little induction of haem oxygenase and hsp70 mRNAs, whereas the porphyrin complexes of these metals strongly induced haem oxygenase mRNA, without influencing the level of hsp70 mRNA. The induction process was largely transcriptional, as
