Highly sensitive two-dimensional ion chromatography mass spectrometry method for nitrite determination in hydroxypropyl methylcellulose.

Due to their potential adverse health effects, some N-nitrosamines in drug products are strictly regulated with very low maximum daily intake limits. Nitrosamines can be formed from the reaction of nitrite and secondary or tertiary amines when both species co-exist in the drug synthesis or formulation process. One key strategy to mitigate nitrosamine risk in drugs is to select low-nitrite containing pharma excipients for formulation. It is necessary to develop a sensitive method for trace nitrite determination in pharma excipients as it enables drug producers to study nitrosamine formation kin

Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose-Based Nasal Sprays Effectively Inhibit In Vitro SARS-CoV-2 Infection and Spread.

The ongoing coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic has required a variety of non-medical interventions to limit the transmission of the causative agent, severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). One such option is over-the-counter nasal sprays that aim to block virus entry and transmission within the nasal cavity. In this study, we assessed the ability of three hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC)-based powder nasal sprays, produced by Nasaleze, to inhibit SARS-CoV-2 infection and release in vitro. Upon application, the HPMC powder forms a gel-like matrix within the nasal

Long-term results of surgical excision of conjunctival retention cyst using trypan blue with methylcellulose.

PURPOSE: Conjunctival retention cysts may recur if not completely removed. However, the cyst wall often ruptures during surgical excision, making complete removal difficult. In order to ensure complete cyst excision, we used a method of staining the inner cyst wall using trypan blue augmented by Methyl cellulose. OBSERVATION: Interventional study. Staining was performed by injecting trypan blue using an insulin needle. Then the needle was kept in place and methyl cellulose was injected to make the cyst content viscous to avoid its collapse after removing the needle. By using this technique, i

Computational Modeling of Hydroxypropyl-Methylcellulose Acetate Succinate (HPMCAS) and Phenytoin Interactions: A Systematic Coarse-Graining Approach.

We present coarse-grained (CG) force fields for hydroxypropyl-methylcellulose acetate succinate (HPMCAS) polymers and the drug molecule phenytoin using a bead/stiff spring model, with each bead representing a HPMCAS monomer or monomer side group (hydroxypropyl acetyl, acetyl, or succinyl) or a single phenytoin ring. We obtain the bonded and nonbonded interaction parameters in our CG model using the RDFs from atomistic simulations of short HPMCAS model oligomers (20-mer) and atomistic simulations of phenytoin molecules. The nonbonded interactions are modeled using a LJ 12-6 potential, with sepa

Electrospun Zein/hydroxypropyl methylcellulose/silver citrate nanofibres with enhanced thermal and morphological stability for wound healing.

Wound dressing is a critical in wound healing, yet natural electrospun nanofibres often lack thermal and morphological stability, limiting clinical utility. To address this, Zein nanofibrous mats with silver citrate nanorods (AgCit) were fabricated by electrospinning, crosslinked with citric acid (catalysed by sodium hypophosphite), and reinforced with hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC). FE-SEM revealed bead-free fibres at 5 mM AgCit, 40 wt% Zein, and 0.5 wt% HPMC, with an average diameter of 930 ± 5.5 nm. Morphological stability was achieved by HPMC reinforcement and AgCit, which prevent fi

Cationic porphyrin covalent organic framework reinforced hydroxypropyl methylcellulose films for photodynamic-photothermal sterilization and food preservation.

Microbial contamination in food necessitates effective antimicrobial packaging. While cellulose-based packaging materials suffer from limited antimicrobial efficacy, lack of active functionality, and susceptibility to inducing microbial resistance. To address these challenges, this study synthesized a cationic porphyrin-based covalent organic framework (Por-ICOF) as a multimodal photosensitizer. Por-ICOF was uniformly dispersed via non-covalent interaction within hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC), creating an HPMC/Por-ICOF composite film. This integration enhanced mechanical strength (incre

Clinical Trial: Randomised Placebo-Controlled Trial of Methylcellulose and Psyllium Gels on Inulin-Induced Colonic Gas.

BACKGROUND: People with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) often restrict their intake of FODMAPs because of associated gas and abdominal discomfort. Psyllium, a gel-forming fibre, reduces colonic gas after inulin ingestion. OBJECTIVE: We aimed to determine whether methylcellulose, a low-cost, non-fermentable gelling agent, widely used in food manufacture, could be formulated to match psyllium's physical properties and similarly moderate colonic fermentation of inulin. METHODS: 3-way randomised cross-over study giving 15 g inulin with 15 g methylcellulose, psyllium or maltodextrin (placebo) in 2

Human Adipose Tissue Derived Extracellular Matrix and Methylcellulose Hydrogels Augments and Regenerates the Paralyzed Vocal Fold.

Vocal fold paralysis results from various etiologies and can induce voice changes, swallowing complications, and issues with aspiration. Vocal fold paralysis is typically managed using injection laryngoplasty with fat or synthetic polymers. Injection with autologous fat has shown excellent biocompatibility. However, it has several disadvantages such as unpredictable resorption rate, morbidities associated with liposuction procedure which has to be done in operating room under general anesthesia. Human adipose-derived extracellular matrix (ECM) grafts have been reported to form new adipose tiss
