Spontaneous multivessel coronary artery dissection associated with microaneurysms in a young women with thyroiditis background: Unusual case report.

Spontaneous coronary artery dissection (SCAD) is a rare condition that is frequently under-recognized. It has been connected to several triggers and predisposing factors. Interestingly, hypothyroidism has been linked to a higher likelihood of arterial dissections. We present the case of a 49-year-old woman who was admitted for acute coronary syndrome. Coronary angiography revealed signs of SCAD affecting the distal left anterior descending artery and the right ventricular branch. Additionally, microaneurysms were detected in the distal circumflex artery, the main septal artery, and a branch of

Coil embolization for intrahepatic haemorrhage following liver biopsy in a patient with hepatitis C virus infection and hepatic microaneurysms.

Intrahepatic bleeding secondary to rupture of hepatic microaneurysms is an uncommon clinical entity more frequently associated with polyarteritis nodosa (PAN) or rarely with other vasculitis or autoimmune disease. Hepatic vasculitis is reported in chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection and an association between hepatitis C and PAN is described. The current report presents the case of a middle-aged female patient with a medical history remarkable for HCV infection who underwent a percutaneous liver biopsy, which was complicated by severe intrahepatic and perihepatic haemorrhage. Computed to

[A case of cerebral embolism due to cardiac myxoma presenting with multiple cerebral microaneurysms detected on first MRI scans].

A 64-year-old man developed right arm weakness and dysarthria, and was admitted to our hospital. Diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging of the brain showed a high intensity area in the frontal lobe. T2*-weighted images showed multiple spotty low intensity lesions in bilateral cerebral hemispheres, mimicking cerebral microbleeds. Cerebral angiography showed multiple aneurysms in the anterior, middle, posterior cerebral arteries and cerebellar arteries. Transthoracic echocardiography revealed a floating structure in the left atrial chamber, indicating cardiac myxoma. We diagnosed cardioem

Evaluating Blood Flow Speed in Retinal Microaneurysms Secondary to Diabetic Retinopathy Using Variable Interscan Time Analysis OCTA.

PURPOSE: To quantify the blood flow speed within retinal microaneurysms (MAs) and investigate the relationship between blood flow speed and clinical characteristics in eyes with diabetic retinopathy (DR). METHODS: Variable interscan time analysis (VISTA) quantifies blood flow speed in the vasculature by measuring how fast optical coherence tomography (OCT) angiography (OCTA) saturates for different interscan times. Macular OCTA imaging was performed in eyes with DR using a high-speed swept-source OCT prototype instrument operating at a 600-kHz A-scan rate. The presence of MAs was determined u

Spontaneous liver rupture secondary to distal right hepatic artery microaneurysms in a patient admitted due to Staphylococcus aureus pneumonia.

Spontaneous liver rupture is an uncommon and life-threatening condition often associated with high mortality rate. The most common causes are preeclampsia and HELLP syndrome during pregnancy, liver tumours and overdosing of anticoagulant therapy, however, hepatic rupture in the absence of underlying pathology is an extremely rare occurrence. Treatment can include observation, embolization, hepatic artery ligation, hepatic lobectomy, hematoma evacuation and packing, and even liver transplantation has been described.

A Case of a Ruptured Microaneurysm at the Tip of the Basilar Artery With Right Abducens Nerve Palsy at the Time of the Initial Rupture and Rerupture During an Outpatient Follow-Up.

The presentation of abducens nerve palsy after each occurrence of subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) is rare. Herein, we report the case of a patient with a ruptured microaneurysm at the tip of the basilar artery who presented with right abducens nerve palsy at the time of the initial rupture and rerupture during an outpatient follow-up. A 52-year-old woman developed SAH with right abducens nerve palsy, which was treated with coil embolization. One year after the initial SAH, there was a relapse of the SAH and paresis of the right abducent nerve palsy. This may have been caused by the location of t

Detection of microaneurysms causing macular edema associated with branch retinal vein occlusion using optical coherence tomography and optical coherence tomography angiography and the effect of focal photocoagulation.

PURPOSE: To determine the efficacy of focal photocoagulation for microaneurysms causing macular edema associated with branch retinal vein occlusion. We also compared the efficacy of treatment with fluorescein angiography (FA) as a method of targeting microaneurysms with the use of optical coherence tomography (OCT) and OCT angiography (OCTA). METHODS: This retrospective study included 45 eyes with macular edema caused by microaneurysms. All eyes received focal photocoagulation for microaneurysms, with FA used to detect microaneurysms in 19 eyes and OCT/OCTA in 26 eyes, depending on the treatm

Onyx Embolization of Distal Middle Cerebral Artery Aneurysm in a Patient with Nontraumatic Subdural Hematoma.

Distal cortical middle cerebral artery (MCA) aneurysm is a rare entity. Despite the challenging procedure, the role of endovascular treatment is emerging due to its safety and efficacy in obliterating the microaneurysm. We report a 25-year-old male, who presented with a history of dizziness and headache for almost 2 weeks. Computed tomography scan showed a right front parietal subdural hematoma (SDH). We could not identify any underlying defining etiology of SDH neither head injury nor coagulopathy disorder. Therefore, diagnostic cerebral angiogram was performed, which showed a microaneurysm i

Pure Acute Subdural Hematoma of Cortical Non-mycotic Microaneurysmatic Etiology: A Report of Two Cases and a Literature Review.

Pure acute subdural hematoma (ASDH) is an uncommon clinical presentation of ruptured intracranial aneurysms, and only rarely, the culprit is a cortical microaneurysm.Mortality can be high; thus, appropriate diagnosis and treatment are crucial. Due to its extreme rarity, there are no available guidelines. We aimed to describe two clinical cases of pure ASDH due to cortical microaneurysm rupture, and a literature review was performed. A 33-year-old man, with no history of head trauma, was admitted with headache and left hemiparesis. Computed tomography (CT) showed right convexity ASDH, and CT ang

Improved circulation in ocular ischemic syndrome after carotid artery stenting.

Ocular ischemic syndrome is a chronic ischemic eye disease including a series of ischemic ocular and brain syndromes caused by carotid artery occlusion or stenosis. Because of the different degrees of ischemia, clinical manifestations of ocular ischemic syndrome are diverse, and it is difficult to diagnose in the initial stage. The main strategy to treat ocular ischemic syndrome is elimination of carotid stenosis. We presented a patient who recovered dramatically after carotid artery stenting. The pre-stenting arm-retinal circulation time of the patient’s left eye was prolonged, and a large am

A fluorescein angiographic study on carbon disulfide retinopathy among workers in viscose rayon factories.

In order to clarify the pathogenesis of carbon disulfide retinopathy, fluorescein fundus angiograms were analyzed for 143 workers exposed to CS2 and 40 unexposed workers (reference) from viscose rayon factories. Retinal abnormalities, characterized by saccular microaneurysms, ellipsoidal microaneurysms and loop formation of small vessels, and atrophic/degenerative changes of pigmentary epithelium, were found in workers exposed to CS2. Saccular microaneurysms were found in 45.5% of the CS2 workers and 7.5% of the reference workers (P less than 0.05). Ellipsoidal microaneurysms or loop formation

[Ophthalmological and angiographic findings in workers exposed to carbon disulfide (author's transl)].

Microaneurysms are important in the diagnosis of vascular changes caused by carbon disulfide. They can be diagnosed by ophtholmoscopy, angiography or angioscopy. In our opinion even a careful ophthalmoscopic investigation is sufficient for diagnosis, so that angiography is not absolutely necessary for any mass survey. The incidence of microaneurysms correlates with the duration (both daily and total) as well as with the intensity of exposure to carbon disulfide. The quantity correlates closely with the intensity of exposure. The incidence of microaneurysms is not correlated to age; however it
