Trichoblastic carcinoma (TBC) is a rare adnexal neoplasm of follicular germ cell differentiation with the potential for local invasion and metastasis. Histologic features of trichoblastic carcinoma have significant overlap with trichoblastoma and basal cell carcinoma (BCC), making diagnosis difficult in some cases. Treatment strategies are not well defined and include surgical excision for localized tumors and systemic therapies for metastatic disease. We present a case of trichoblastic carcinoma clinically resembling a benign cyst that was ultimately treated with Mohs micrographic surgery (MM

BACKGROUND: Mohs micrographic surgery (MMS) for sebaceous carcinoma (SC) may reduce local recurrence rates, but published case series have small cohorts and limited follow-up. Mohs micrographic surgery is particularly suitable for sensitive functional and cosmetic locations, such as the face, because it facilitates tissue conservation using complete peripheral and deep margin assessment before reconstruction. Coordinated care between Mohs and oculoplastic surgeons has not been described.
OBJECTIVE: To assess rates of local recurrence and metastasis after MMS of facial SC and to describe coord

OBJECTIVE: To study the significance of modified Mohs micrographic surgery in the treatment of cutaneous melanoma with the most appropriate margins.
METHODS: A total of 20 cases with cutaneous melanoma treated by the technique of modified Mohs micrographic surgery from July 2013 to July 2014 were reviewed. Modified Mohs micrographic surgery set safe margin according to Guideline of Chinese Melanoma Treatment (2011) first, and then decide whether to adopt wider margins according to the pathology of the resected margin. Data concerning the numbers of additional resection and the final total wid

Microcystic adnexal carcinoma is a rare neoplasm with a propensity for slow growth and extensive local invasion. Pathology is characterized by multiple islands of basaloid epithelial cells, ductal structures, and keratinizing cysts, located intradermally but often extending deep as thin strands of tumor cells intercalating between collagen bundles. Perineural and intramuscular invasion are common. Treatment with Mohs surgery allows for fewer procedures with increased likelihood of long-term cure and tissue conservation.

BACKGROUND: Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) of the ear compared with SCC occurring at other skin sites has an increased incidence of recurrence following treatment.
OBJECTIVE: To determine the following variables: patient age and gender, life status, tumor location, and recurrence rate following Mohs micrographic surgery (MMS).
METHODS: The charts of 117 patients with 144 invasive SCCs of the auricle were reviewed. The patients were contacted by telephone to confirm tumor recurrence and patients' life status. The range of follow-up was 7 to 67 months (average 34.6 months) after MMS.
RESULTS:

BACKGROUND: Eccrine porocarcinoma (EPC) is a rare malignant tumor of the eccrine sweat glands. The lesions are reported to occur most commonly on the lower extremity with variable prognosis.
OBJECTIVE: To discuss the clinical and histologic features and the prognosis of EPC.
METHODS: We report a 71-year-old man who presented with an asymptomatic lesion on his lower eyelid that had been present for 6 weeks.
RESULTS: The 4 x 4-mm lesion was removed in two stages using the Mohs micrographic surgery fresh-tissue technique. The histopathologic diagnosis was primary EPC.
CONCLUSION: EPCs most co

Verrucous carcinoma is a rare, low grade variant of squamous cell carcinoma that rarely metastasizes but tends to display aggressive local behavior. Wide local excision is the most common treatment, but has high rates of local recurrence, ranging from 19 to 75% in the literature. The cases of verrucous carcinoma treated with Mohs micrographic surgery in the literature, as well as a previously unpublished case is summarized. PubMed was searched for terms related to verrucous carcinoma and Mohs micrographic surgery, and articles reporting cases of verrucous carcinoma treated with Mohs were revie

Mohs micrographic surgery is often considered the treatment of choice for a variety of skin malignancies. In recent years, the application of immunostaining techniques has facilitated the successful removal of a number of common and less common cutaneous malignancies, including basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, malignant melanoma, dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans, microcystic adnexal carcinoma, sebaceous carcinoma, atypical fibroxanthoma, extramammary Paget's disease, and even sarcomas. Immunostains highlight the tumor cells and allow the Mohs surgeons to pinpoint and eliminate the

Mohs micrographic surgery is a technique that offers surgeons and pathologists a means to examine the entire surgical margins of excised cutaneous malignancies in a more complete manner than conventional methods. Initially developed to treat nonmelanoma skin cancers, its use has been expanded to include histologic margin evaluation for treatment of malignant melanoma. Clinical studies demonstrate equivalent or better 5-year survival rates with Mohs surgery compared to conventional wide local excision. For surgical treatment of melanoma, it offers unique advantages for lesions requiring tissue

BACKGROUND: Mohs surgery is one of the most effective treatment options for skin cancers as it offers one of the highest chances for cure. Mohs surgery is a precise technique that removes a layer at a time. Although this may be advantageous, this treatment method is difficult in patients with immunobullous diseases. Currently the guidelines for Mohs surgery do not discuss the premanagement of immunobullous patients about to undergo Mohs surgery.
OBJECTIVE: To advocate for increasing prednisone dose in patients with immunobullous disease prior to undergoing Mohs surgery.

In DFSP treated with slow Mohs surgery, first-stage planning is critical given delayed histologic results. The pinch test allows intraoperative assessment of skin mobility, enabling margin tailoring beyond the standard 1-1.3 cm when laxity permits, while preserving primary closure. This integrates oncologic and reconstructive planning in a single surgical step.

BACKGROUND: Mohs micrographic surgery (MMS) has shown promising efficacy in female genital cancers, including Extramammary Paget’s disease (EMPD), dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (DFSP), squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), and basal cell carcinoma (BCC). However, limited consolidated research exists on the clinical outcomes following MMS in female genital cancers. The aim of this systematic review is to synthesize and evaluate recent literature on the application and utility of MMS in the management of female genital cancers.
METHODS: A comprehensive search was conducted of the PubMed and EM

Keratinocyte carcinomas (KCs) are commonly located on the scalp and often treated with excision with peripheral and deep en face margin assessment (PDEMA), with Mohs micrographic surgery (MMS) being the most frequently used method. Resection of these malignancies results in wounds with a wide variety of sizes, ranging from small, sub-centimeter defects, to extensive, nearly complete scalp defects. MMS is often the preferred treatment for tumor resection and margin clearance, as it allows for maximal healthy tissue preservation and has the lowest recurrence rates. Multiple local flap reconstruc
