Streblus asper (Moraceae) is traditionally used for neurological and febrile disorders, but its pharmacological basis remains unclear. This study evaluated the S. asper leaf methanolic extract (SAL-ME) for anxiolytic, antidepressant, sedative, and antipyretic activities using Swiss albino mice and in silico docking analyses. Behavioral assays included the elevated plus maze, hole-board, forced swim, tail suspension, hole cross, and open field tests, while brewer's yeast-induced pyrexia was used to assess antipyretic activity. SAL-ME (200 and 400 mg/kg) produced dose-dependent effects, signific

About 900 specific fig-fig wasp interactions are distributed throughout tropical ecosystems. Despite this ubiquity, floral mimicry of figs (inflorescences of Ficus spp.; Moraceae) has never been observed. Recently, we found a bizarre Apocynaceae, Heterostemma ficoides, bearing globose closed flowers that look similar to figs and are visited by a Kradibia wasp, the pollinator of Ficus heterophylla. Does the flower of H. ficoides mimic the fig to achieve its pollination success? We investigated floral visitors and their activities on H. ficoides flowers, compared chemical and physical cues betwe

Understanding how stingless bee species share floral resources is essential for optimizing meliponiculture and supporting pollinator conservation. This study investigated the trophic niche overlap of four Melipona species (M. quadrifasciata, M. bicolor, M. torrida, and M. mondury) in Southern Brazil across warm and cold seasons. Pollen samples were collected monthly over 10 months and analyzed to assess richness, trophic niche breadth, and overlap between species' trophic niches. Results showed seasonal variation in foraging patterns, with all species (except M. mondury) reducing their niche b

Artocarpus nanchuanensis is a critically endangered tree endemic to Chongqing, China. Although a large number of seedlings have been successfully cultivated and preserved, their overall utilization rate remains suboptimal. The nutritional formation of fruit remains elusive. Here, we analyzed three fruit stages (green mature, color-breaking, complete ripeness), to gain more insight through transcriptomics and widely targeted metabolomics. 1,662 metabolites were identified, with flavonoids being the most abundant (18.65%). Alkaloids accounted for 7.89%. The complete ripeness fruits were rich in

Osteoarthritis (OA) is a common joint degenerative disease induced by oxidative stress in chondrocytes. Although induced-heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) has been found to protect cells against oxygen radical damage, little information is available regarding the use of bioactive compounds from natural sources for regulating the HO-1 pathway to treat OA. In this study, we explored the inhibitory effects of cudratricusxanthone O (CTO) isolated from the Maclura tricuspidata Bureau (Moraceae) on H2O2-induced damage of SW1353 chondrocytes via regulation of the HO-1 pathway. CTO promoted HO-1 expression by e
