Gut Bacterium Morganella morganii-Secreted Proteins Promote Colorectal Tumor Progression through CD137 Upregulation via NF-κB Activation.

BACKGROUND: The development and progression of Colorectal Cancer (CRC) are closely linked to gut microbiota dysbiosis. However, the pathogenic functions and mechanisms of specific microbiota-derived factors in CRC are not well defined. In this study, we focused on Morganella morganii (M. morganii), a commensal bacterium significantly enriched in the gut of CRC patients, to investigate its potential role in promoting CRC progression. METHODS: We first compared the fecal abundance of M. morganii between patients with CRC and healthy controls in a clinical cohort. From its culture supernatant, a

Emergence of carbapenem resistant Escherichia coli, Morganella morganii, Providencia rettgeri harboring blaNDM genes in minks from China.

Although carbapenems have not been approved for animal use, carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE) strains are increasingly being detected in animals, posing a significant public health risk. However, the epidemiological characteristics of CRE isolates in animals remain elusive. We comprehensively investigated the genetic features of carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae isolates recovered from minks in Shandong province, China. A total of seven (38.8 %) NDM-positive isolates were identified including three Morganella morganii, three Providencia rettgeri, and one Escherichia coli from

Towards A Novel Multi-Epitopes Chimeric Vaccine for Simulating Strong Immune Responses and Protection against Morganella morganii.

Morganella morganii is one of the main etiological agents of hospital-acquired infections and no licensed vaccine is available against the pathogen. Herein, we designed a multi-epitope-based vaccine against M. morganii. Predicted proteins from fully sequenced genomes of the pathogen were subjected to a core sequences analysis, followed by the prioritization of non-redundant, host non-homologous and extracellular, outer membrane and periplasmic membrane virulent proteins as vaccine targets. Five proteins (TonB-dependent siderophore receptor, serralysin family metalloprotease, type 1 fimbrial pr

Successful Treatment of PD Peritonitis Due to Morganella morganii Resistant to Third-Generation Cephalosporins - A Case Report.

Morganella morganii is a rare cause of peritonitis in patients on peritoneal dialysis (PD). Most of the reported cases have resorted to a switch to hemodialysis. We herein report a case of peritonitis due to M. morganii resistant to third-generation cephalosporins, which was treated successfully with intraperitoneal (IP) tobramycin followed by oral ciprofloxacin. Early microbiologic diagnosis is essential in the treatment of peritonitis from rare microorganisms such as Morganella morganii, and appropriate antibiotic therapy is the key to avoiding catheter loss and subsequent switch to hemodial

Multidrug Resistance Salmonella Genomic Island 1 in a Morganella morganii subsp. morganii Human Clinical Isolate from France.

Salmonella genomic island 1 (SGI1) is a multidrug resistance integrative mobilizable element that harbors a great diversity of antimicrobial resistance gene clusters described in numerous Salmonella enterica serovars and also in Proteus mirabilis. A serious threat to public health was revealed in the recent description in P. mirabilis of a SGI1-derivative multidrug resistance island named PGI1 (Proteus genomic island 1) carrying extended-spectrum-β-lactamase (ESBL) and metallo-β-lactamase resistance genes, blaVEB-6 and blaNDM-1, respectively. Here, we report the first description of Salmonella

Isolation of Morganella Morganii and Providencia Species from Clinical Samples in a Tertiary Care Hospital in North India.

INTRODUCTION: The members of the tribe Proteeae, Morganella and Providencia are being increasingly recognized as important pathogens. The spectrum of disease caused by them is wide and in reported cases, the mortality is high. Previously both of these pathogens were considered to be rare pathogens as the potential to cause nosocomial transmission and infection was not much studied. But their phenomenal evolution and increase in multidrug-resistance (MDR) strains of these pathogens are posing a major threat toward public health throughout the world. METHODS: This present study was carried out

Pathometagenomics reveals susceptibility to intestinal infection by Morganella to be mediated by the blood group-related B4galnt2 gene in wild mice.

Infectious disease is widely considered to be a major driver of evolution. A preponderance of signatures of balancing selection at blood group-related genes is thought to be driven by inherent trade-offs in susceptibility to disease. B4galnt2 is subject to long-term balancing selection in house mice, where two divergent allele classes direct alternative tissue-specific expression of a glycosyltransferase in the intestine versus blood vessels. The blood vessel allele class leads to prolonged bleeding times similar to von Willebrand disease in humans, yet has been maintained for millions of year

Morganella morganii NM-11 of snake origin: drug resistance profile, pathogenic potential, and impact on host gut microbiota.

To date, cases of snake infection caused by Morganella morganii and its effects on the intestinal microecology of snakes remain poorly documented. A pathogenic strain, designated NM-11, was isolated from diseased and dead snakes collected from a snake farm in China. In this study, strain NM-11 was identified as Morganella morganii through morphological observation, physiological and biochemical characterization, 16S rRNA gene sequencing, as well as genome-based average nucleotide identity (ANI) and digital DNA-DNA hybridization (dDDH) analyses. Subsequently, artificial challenge assays were pe

Carbapenem-resistant Morganella morganii carrying blaKPC-2 or blaNDM-1 in the clinic: one-decade genomic epidemiology analysis.

UNLABELLED: Carbapenem-resistant Morganella morganii (CRMM) isolates, particularly those producing Klebsiella pneumoniae carbapenemase-2 (KPC-2) or New Delhi metallo-β-lactamase-1 (NDM-1), are increasingly being recognized as causative agents of nosocomial infections. However, systematic phylogeography and genetic characterization of these isolates worldwide are still lacking. Here, through seven years of surveillance of CRMM in a tertiary hospital, we analyzed the genomic characteristics of blaKPC-2- or blaNDM-1-positive CRMM isolates. Furthermore, we conducted a global genomic epidemiologica

Identification of porins in outer membrane of Proteus, Morganella, and Providencia spp. and their role in outer membrane permeation of beta-lactams.

Proteus mirabilis, Proteus vulgaris, Morganella morganii, Providencia rettgeri, and Providencia alcalifaciens, which were once classified into the same genus, Proteus, were studied. Cefoxitin-resistant mutants from these species were isolated, and it was confirmed that the resistance was attributed to the lack of an outer membrane protein, resulting in a significant decrease in the penetration of hydrophilic cephalosporins through the outer membrane. Comparison of the mutant strains with their parental strains in the diffusion rates of six monoanionic cephalosporins, a zwitterionic cephalospor

Occurrence of NDM-1-producing Morganella morganii and Proteus mirabilis in a single patient in Portugal: probable in vivo transfer by conjugation.

OBJECTIVES: To decipher the genetics of acquisition of carbapenemase-encoding genes identified in two carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae recovered from a single patient in Portugal. METHODS: Carbapenemase genes were searched by PCR assays and mating-out assays were performed to further characterize the plasmid support of the carbapenemase genes. Genetic characterization of the plasmid supports was performed by whole-plasmid sequencing using the Illumina technology. RESULTS: We identified here two NDM-1-producing isolates, namely a Morganella morganii and a Proteus mirabilis, sharing the

Salicylate decreases production of AmpC type beta-lactamases and increases susceptibility to beta-lactams in a Morganella morganii clinical isolate.

The effect of salicylate, a marRAB inducer, on the resistance to beta-lactams was characterized in an AmpC beta-lactamase hyperproducer Morganella morganii clinical isolate (the M1 strain). Results were compared with those of the effect of salicylate in a wild-type M. morganii strain. Salicylate induced a decreased susceptibility to nalidixic acid, norfloxacin and tetracycline and simultaneously increased the susceptibility to beta-lactams apparently due to the repression of AmpC beta-lactamase synthesis in the M1 strain. Likewise, salicylate only repressed 46 kDa outer membrane protein expres

Cefoperazone targets D-alanyl-D-alanine carboxypeptidase (DAC) to control Morganella morganii-mediated infection: a subtractive genomic and molecular dynamics approach.

Morganella morganii is a Gram-negative bacterial pathogen that causes bacteremia, urinary tract infections, intra-abdominal infections, chorioamnionitis, neonatal sepsis, and newborn meningitis. To control this bacterial pathogen a total of 3565 putative proteins targets in Morganella morganii were screened using comparative subtractive analysis of biochemical pathways annotated by the KEGG that did not share any similarities with human proteins. One of the targets, D-alanyl-D-alanine carboxypeptidase DacB [Morganella] was observed to be implicated in the majority of cell wall synthesis pathwa
