Sequential immunologic, cytochemical, and cytokinetic studies were done on single lymphoid cells in the peripheral blood of 6 children with infectious mononucleosis (IM) and 1 child with toxoplasmosis 1-2 wk after onset of symptomatology. The absolute number of AET-SRBC rosetting (E+) cells was increased in all patients; the absolute number of cells with surface IgM (slgM+) was increased in 3 of 7 patients. We describe our experience in the identification of 19 cases of AML-M0 categorized among 200 consecutive AML cases. Leukaemic cells from our cases were morphologically marked by agranular basophilic cytoplasm, finely dispersed chromatin and prominent nucleoli. In two cases heavily vacuolated and monocytoid-shaped blasts were also observed. A histochemical investigation of 16 sites of post-mortem oral mucosa was carried out in an attempt to define any organized lymphoid tissue in the mouth. Whereas lymphoid tissue was found, as expected, in the palatine and lingual tonsils, only 1 out of 240 specimens revealed lymphoid aggregations at other mucosal sites. In 14 cases of hairy cell leukemia unique vascular lesions not previously reported were observed in surgically resected spleens and hepatic biopsies. Several histochemical tests were applied to the lining and glandular gastric epithelium of Xenodon merremii. Nature and nosology of mycosis fungoides have to be reconsidered because there is now evidence of the t-cell nature of the atypical lymphoid cells within the mycoside infiltrate.
