Salt-Tolerant Plants, Halophytes, as Renewable Natural Resources for Cancer Prevention and Treatment: Roles of Phenolics and Flavonoids in Immunomodulation and Suppression of Oxidative Stress towards Cancer Management.

Halophytes and xerophytes, plants with adequate tolerance to high salinity with strong ability to survive in drought ecosystem, have been recognized for their nutritional and medicinal values owing to their comparatively higher productions of secondary metabolites, primarily the phenolics, and the flavonoids, as compared to the normal vegetation in other climatic regions. Given the consistent increases in desertification around the world, which are associated with increasing salinity, high temperature, and water scarcity, the survival of halophytes due to their secondary metabolic contents has

Vine-Winery Byproducts as Precious Resource of Natural Antimicrobials: In Vitro Antibacterial and Antibiofilm Activity of Grape Pomace Extracts against Foodborne Pathogens.

Grape pomace is the main by-product of vine-winery chains. It requires adequate treatment and disposal but is also an economically underused source of bioactive plant secondary metabolites. This study aimed to investigate the antibacterial effects of polyphenolic extracts from Aglianico (Vitis vinifera L.) grape pomace. In particular, hydroethanolic extracts obtained via an ultrasonic-assisted extraction technique were selected for antimicrobial tests. The extracts were screened for their antibacterial effects against foodborne pathogens that were both Gram-positive, in the case of Staphylococ

Cross-sectional study of the association of social relationship resources with Staphylococcus aureus colonization in naturally occurring social groups along the US/Mexico border.

Asymptomatic carriage of Staphylococcus aureus is a major risk factor for subsequent clinical infection. Diminishing returns from mitigation efforts emphasize the need to better understand colonization, spread, and transmission of this opportunistic pathogen. While contact with other people presents opportunities for pathogen exposure and transmission, diversity of social connections may be protective against pathogens such as the common cold. This study examined whether social relationship resources, including the amount and diversity of social contacts, are associated with S. aureus coloniza

Does financial sector development mitigate power sector-based carbon dioxide emissions to establish environmental sustainability in BRICS?

Since the BRICS bloc accounts for around half of global carbon-dioxide (CO2) emissions associated with energy use. Thus, mitigating CO2 emissions is critically important not only to promote environmental sustainability across this bloc, but also for the sake of improving global environmental conditions as a whole. Accordingly, this study evaluates whether financial sector development is likely to enable the BRICS countries to curtail emissions associated with their power sectors, while controlling for their natural resource dependency, renewable energy adoption, institutional quality, and inte

Integrated zoning of wellness tourism resources and economic valuation of summer-retreat wellness climate resources in mountainous cities: a case study of Chongqing, China.

Mountainous regions hold considerable wellness tourism potential, backed by abundant ecological and climatic resources. Yet research has largely focused on spatial zoning rather than linking spatial patterns to the economic valuation of ecological resources. This gap constrains evidence-based planning and hinders effective industrial conversion of ecological products. This study therefore develops an integrated framework that combines citywide wellness tourism resource zoning with Gross Ecosystem Product (GEP)-based economic valuation, using Chongqing, China, as a case study. We constructed a

How does green finance accelerate the shift to energy revolution in developing countries?

This study aims to analyze the effects of green finance on the energy transition in 63 developing countries over the period 2000-2022. We address this assessment by using fixed effects (OLS and Driscoll-Kraay), followed by Lewbel (2012) and Kiviet (2020) instrumentation strategies to manage endogeneity. We found evidence that green finance enhances energy transition in developing countries, and that this effect is mediated by green technologies, human capital, and ecosystem conservation. Additional results reveal that economies with higher levels of government efficiency, political stability,
