Preventing the recurrence of lung oligometastases after local therapy in patients with colorectal cancer is an area requiring investigation. A recent article demonstrated that adding capecitabine maintenance therapy after radiofrequency ablation improved the 5-year overall survival (88.7% vs 69.1%) and reduced local tumor progression (22.7% vs 49.0%) compared with radiofrequency ablation alone. Microsatellitosis is well established as a prognostic factor in malignant melanoma. Its identification leads to subsequent upstaging with implications for further management. We describe 6 cases in which immunohistochemical staining for PReferentially expressed Antigen in MElanoma facilitated detection of small foci of micrometastasis on scanning magnification, which may be potentially missed in routine sections.

OBJECTIVES: Lymph node micro metastasis was investigated in gastric cardia adenocarcinoma (GCA) patients without lymph node metastasis on routine pathological examination. The relationship between micrometastasis and clinicopathological features was also evaluated.

BACKGROUND: Sentinel node biopsy (SNB) is a standard technique for the diagnosis of regional lymph node metastases in clinically node-negative breast cancer patients. In the case of pathologically negative sentinel lymph nodes (SLN), axillary lymph node dissection (ALND) can be avoided.

We present the case of a 53-year-old woman with silicone breast implants who underwent excision of an abdominal melanoma and sentinel lymph node biopsy. Two lymph nodes were excised; both lying in the breast parenchyma adjacent to the intact right breast capsule.
