[Treatment of a patient with giant solitary fibrous tumor of the left hip].

The authors report surgical treatment of a 59-year-old female with a giant solitary-fibrous tumor of the left hip. Previous excision of hip hemangioma was performed in 2016. Recurrent tumor with fast growth has occurred since 2018. The neoplasm consisted of 2 tumors connected by vascular structures. CT revealed soft tissue neoplasms in the upper third of the left thigh (anterior, medial and dorsal regions). Large tumors with an isthmus along the inner surface had tuberous contours and internal septa. The last ones and walls accumulated contrast agent. No structural damage to femoral muscles wa

Postradiation angiosarcoma of the small intestine: a case report and review of literature.

Postradiation angiosarcoma is typically a high-grade sarcoma that presents mainly in the skin and superficial tissues. Postradiation angiosarcoma arising in the small intestine is rare with only 11 cases documented in the English-language literature. Herein, we report a postradiation angiosarcoma of the small intestine 9 years after radiotherapy for uterine cervical adenocarcinoma. The patient presented with symptoms of intestinal obstruction. At exploratory laparotomy, tumor nodules involved the small bowel. Microscopically, the neoplasm was composed of spindled and epithelioid cells arranged

Epithelioid hemangioendothelioma of the head and neck: a clinicopathologic report of twelve cases.

Epithelioid hemangioendothelioma (EH) is a recently described unusual vascular neoplasm of the soft tissues. Apparently identical tumors have also been described in the lung and and liver. Although no previous reports have described these lesions in the head and neck, twelve cases from this region are reported here. There is a wide age distribution throughout adulthood of affected patients. The 4-year-old patient in this series is the youngest thus far reported. There is no sex predilection. The submandibular region is the head and neck site most frequently involved. The unusual histologic app

Tumor angiogenic factor and human skin tumors.

A transparent acrylic hamster cheek-pouch chamber was used to investigate the elaboration of a tumor angiogenic factor (TAF) by human cutaneous neoplasms; direct tumor implantations, transfilter diffusion, and soluble tumor extracts were used in the study. A diffusible and filterable TAF was extracted from cutaneous tumors and produced distinctive patterns of sequential vasodilatation, tortuosity, and neovascular proliferation in the cheek-pouch membrane. Malignant human neoplasms (eg, melanoma, basal cell epithelioma, squamous cell carcinoma, lymphoma) produced striking neovascularization; va

Estrogen receptors in acoustic neurilemmomas.

Acoustic neurilemmomas are more frequent, larger, and more vascular in women, and such lesions have a rapidly progressive clinical course in pregnant women; these findings suggest that the growth of these neoplasms may bear a relationship to certain hormone levels. Tissues from 8 patients with acoustic neurilemmoma (3 men and 5 women) were studied by a new fluorescent steroid histochemical technique to detect the presence of estrogen receptors in or on neoplastic cells. Estrogen receptor protein has also been found in meningioma cells in women. Neurilemmoma of the acoustic nerve is the second

Primary Aortic Angiosarcoma: A Review of Two Cases Highlighting Unique Imaging and Clinical Characteristics.

Angiosarcomas are rare vascular connective tissue tumors originating from the tunica intima, media, or adventitia and may arise in large vessels. Here two cases of primary angiosarcoma of the aorta are described that highlight initial manifestations and unique complications from diffuse arterial tumor emboli, which led to delayed cancer diagnosis. In patients with aortic lesions, imaging characteristics must be thoughtfully reconciled with clinical scenarios, particularly in patients with no additional evidence of atherosclerosis or vasculitis. Keywords: Oncology, Neoplasms-Primary, MR-Angiogr

Hemangiopericytoma of supraglottis: A rare case report and review of literature.

In 1942, Stout and Murray first used the term hemangiopericytoma to describe a tumor which is distinguished histologically from other types of vascular neoplasm characterized by proliferation of pericytes. It is a rare neoplasm that was originally described as a vascular tumor derived from the pericytes. They account for 2%-3% of all soft tissue sarcomas in humans and they occur mainly in the musculoskeletal system. About 15%-30% of all hemangiopericytomas occur in the head and neck region. Hemangiopericytoma of supraglottis is very rare neoplasm with only nine cases reported in literature and

Germline pathogenic PTEN variant in a patient with a Kaposiform haemangioendothelioma.

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Kaposiform haemangioendothelioma (KHE) is a rare vascular neoplasm usually presenting in childhood. Its high morbidity and mortality is secondary to compression, invasion, and coagulopathy. The pathogenensis of KHE remains poorly understood although mTOR inhibitors have been used successfully in management. PTENHarmatoma Tumour Syndrome (PHTS) is a well characterised tumour predisposition syndrome with an ∼85% lifetime tumour risk. In addition, over 50% of patients have vascular anomalies. However, malignant vascular tumours are not a recognised association. CASE: A 28-

Myopericytoma of skin and soft tissues: clinicopathologic and immunohistochemical study of 54 cases.

Perivascular neoplasms comprise traditionally glomus tumor and hemangiopericytoma (HPC). Whereas glomus tumor represents a well-defined entity, the existence of HPC as a separate entity has been questioned because a number of neoplasms of different lines of differentiation are characterized by a HPC-like vascular growth pattern. Myopericytoma represents a recently delineated entity showing a HPC-like vascular pattern. A large series of myopericytoma of skin and soft tissues has been analyzed to further characterize the clinicopathologic spectrum of this entity. Fifty-four cases of myopericytom

Combined angioma and glioma (angioglioma).

Ten patients in whom tissue proliferation akin to angioglioma occurred within the brain are described; seven of the lesions were supratentorial and three infratentorial. Only 31 accepted instances of such neoplasms have been found in the literature. The combined lesions usually become symptomatic in the second and third decades. In all 10 cases, the angiomatous part of the combined tumors showed characteristic vascular malformation such as severe hyalinization, tortuosity, and some were even calcified. The number of abnormal blood vessels were excessive in all examples. The glial portion consi

Congenital Tumours and Tumour-Like Lesions in Calves: a Review.

Congenital tumours and tumour-like lesions represent a group of rare disorders in both veterinary and human medicine that arise from tissue remnants and are detected during pregnancy or within the first 2-3 months of life. Different forms of congenital tumours and congenital tumour-like lesions have been reported in calves and their development is poorly understood. They often pose a diagnostic challenge and the referring nomenclature occasionally may be equivocal. Previous reports regarding tumour-like lesions, soft tissue tumours, vascular tumours, round cell tumours and neoplasms of the ner

Expression of a lymphatic endothelial cell marker in benign and malignant vascular tumors.

Tumors of endothelial cell origin are relatively common. Soft tissue tumors and numerous subtypes of benign and malignant vascular tumors have been described; the histogenesis of many of these tumors is uncertain, and distinguishing between benign and malignant vascular tumors, some of which express lymphatic endothelial cell markers, can be problematic. In the present study, immunophenotypic expression of a novel hyaluronan receptor (LYVE-1), which is expressed by endothelial cells of normal lymphatic vessels but not blood vessels, was determined in benign and malignant vascular tumors. It wa

Post-radiation atypical vascular proliferation on the head of a young woman: a diagnostic challenge.

With improved outcomes associated with radiotherapy (RT), post-irradiation tumors are increasingly seen in long-term cancer survivors. We report a case of a young woman who presented with a three-year history of a vascular lesion on the temple, previously irradiated for a childhood brain tumor. The history of radiation, the clinical appearance, and the biopsy findings of an atypical vascular proliferation in the dermis, were worrisome for a malignant vascular neoplasm and prompted surgical excision. However, further tissue analysis of the excised specimen confirmed a benign atypical vascular l

Paradoxical Examination and Imaging Findings in a Case of Paratesticular Cutaneous Angioyxoma.

Angiomyxomas are rare soft tissue neoplasms rich in myxoid matrix and blood vessels that typically present as nodules on the trunk, head, and limbs in adults. They are classified as either cutaneous or aggressive based on histological findings and extent of local growth. There are less than 150 reported cases in the literature. In this case report we describe the first paratesticular case of a cutaneous angiomyxoma in a pediatric patient, who presented with a transilluminating paratesticular mass consistent with a hydrocele, but showed solid and vascular features on ultrasound.

[Lateral neck paraganglioma: diagnostic imaging and preoperative embolization].

Sixteen paragangliomas of the neck were reviewed. Lesions were found in the carotid body (n = 12), vagal nerve (n = 3) and larynx (n = 1). While paragangliomas were often misdiagnosed clinically, CT scanning defined the extent of the disease. MR was able to accurately characterize the tumors as highly vascular. Multiplanar imaging, exquisite tissue contrast and anatomic detail allowed better display of the relationship between these neoplasms and surrounding carotid sheath vessels and intracranial structures. MR constitutes the imaging modality of choice in carotid body tumor. Arteriography is

Metastatic basal cell carcinoma originating in the supra-parotid region.

This case illustrates that massive tumor size, ulceration, or history of multiple recurrences are not absolute prerequisites for metastatic BCC. It supports the hypothesis that tumor proximity to major lymphatic systems or large-caliber blood vessels may be of significance. BCCs originating in skin overlying the parotid gland have the potential to penetrate to a rich vascular and lymphatic plexus as well as compromise the integrity of the facial nerve. Early treatment of these neoplasms utilizing accurate methods of microscopic control appears warranted to prevent the serious consequences of r

Schwannoma: A rare cause of false-positive 68Ga-PSMA PET/CT uptake in the evaluation of metastatic prostate cancer.

PSMA expression occurs in epithelial cells in both normal and hyperplastic prostates. In adenocarcinoma, it is present in greater intensity, especially in the more aggressive ones. This made it possible to develop diagnostic tools with greater specificity for detecting prostate cancer metastases like the 68Ga-PSMA PET/CT. Several benign neoplasms with increased marker uptake have been described in the literature. Such false-positives are usually associated with soft tissue injuries, abnormal vascular proliferation, neurogenic injuries, thymomas and adenomas. In the present work we present a ca

STUDY DESIGN: Narrative review. OBJECTIVE: To synthesize current evidence on diagnostics and clinical decision-making for patients with cervical spine neoplasms. BACKGROUND: Although the cervical spine is disproportionately affected by primary spinal tumors and is the predominant site for intramedullary spinal cord tumors, there remains a relative paucity of reviews focused specifically on cervical spine neoplasms. METHODS: PubMed and Scopus were searched using a combination of terms related to cervical spine neoplasms, classification schemas, diagnostic evaluation, staging, and clinical de
