Neuroendocrine carcinomas primitive neuroectodermal tumor (PNET) arise from Kulchitsky cells and are frequently seen in gastrointestinal tract and lungs. But they are unusual in gynecology practice. We presented a case of PNET arising in the uterine corpus of a 22-year-old woman. To our knowledge, this is the first description of small-cell carcinoma of the uterine corpus with a pseudocyst formation within the myometrium without endometrial invasion.

Cases of cerebral neuroblastoma or supratentorial primitive neuroectodermal tumor with malignant gliomatous components are relatively uncommon. Less frequent is the combination of these 2 elements with a mesenchymal component. This is a case report of a lipomatous supratentorial primitive neuroectodermal tumor with glioblastomatous differentiation occurring in a 48-year-old woman. She presented with headaches and confusion. A right parietal lobe mass was excised and subsequently recurred, requiring additional surgery 10 months later. The patient died 13 months after initial surgery. Histologic

BACKGROUND & OBJECTIVE: It's difficult to distinguish peripheral primitive neuroectodermal tumor (PNET) from other small round cell tumors such as Ewing's sarcoma by histological examination. This study was to analyze the CT and MRI features of peripheral PNET.
METHODS: The CT and MRI records of 7 patients with pathologically proved peripheral PNET were reviewed.
RESULTS: The tumors were located in the left ala nasi, right lower jaw bone, left chest wall, right chest wall, left spermatic cord, paraspinal, and lumbar vertebral canal. The tumors in soft tissue showed resembled non-calcified, i

There are nearly 50 PNET cases in the literature with primary renal localization. The mean age for renal PNET is 28 but it can be seen in a wide range between 4 and 69 years. In this atypical localization PNET may be mistaken with a variety of small round cell tumors, particularly with blastema predominant Wilms' tumor and due to its distinctive prognostic and therapeutic features differential diagnosis is very important. Immunohistochemical studies are useful in discriminating PNET from other renal small round cell tumors. Renal PNETs tend to metastasize at early stages and they have a high r

Peripheral primitive neuroectodermal tumors (pPNETs) are usually found in the soft tissue of the extremities, paravertebral region, and chest wall. We report a rare case of a pPNET arising in the colon. A 59-year-old man underwent left hemicolectomy for an infiltrative ulcerating tumor, 11 cm long, in the descending colon. Histological examination of the resected specimen revealed small, round cell proliferation with rosette-like structures, and confirmed regional lymph node involvement and peritoneal dissemination near the primary tumor. Immunohistochemically, the tumor cells were positive fo

We describe a little girl with tetralogy of Fallot (TOF) who was found to have a huge peripheral primitive neuroectodermal tumor (pPNET) when she developed progressive difficulty in standing and crawling at the age of 11 months. The tumor was located in the left paraspinal region (T4-T12), with intraspinal extension causing severe compression. Nine days after surgical decompression with laminectomy, chemotherapy was initiated with alternative courses of vincristine, doxorubicin, cyclophosphamide, etoposide, and ifosfamide every 3 weeks. The muscle power in her legs recovered substantially afte

A case of fetal brain tumor, which appeared after 32 weeks' gestation, is presented. Prenatal ultrasonography and magnetic resonance imaging demonstrated a large heterogeneous mass in the right supratentorial region and left enlarged ventricle. A male fetus weighing 2,616 g was delivered at 34 weeks' gestation by cesarean section and died on the 37th day of life due to rapid growth of the tumor. Following autopsy, the pathohistological examination revealed primitive neuroectodermal tumor. Magnetic resonance imaging in the prenatal management of the congenital brain tumor is efficient in evalua

A primitive neuroectodermal tumor (PNET) is very rare and the prognosis of this tumor is poor. A 32-year-old woman complaining of dysphagia and back pain was admitted to our hospital for the posterior mediastinal tumor. The tumor originated from the muscle layer of esophagus and en bloc resection of the tumor combined with the affected part of esophagus was performed. Histopathological diagnosis of the resected tumor was PNET. She received adjuvant chemotherapy. Eight months after the surgery, recurrent tumors in the right mediastinum and the retrooperitoneal space was resected completely. But

The clinicopathological and immunohistochemical features of four cases of primitive neuroectodermal tumors of the central nervous system were investigated. Three patients died. All cases showed vimentin-positive cells with the morphology of neoplastic cells and one case showed glial fibrillary acidic protein, neuron-specific enolase and neurofilament protein-positive cell. The present study indicates that this group of tumors have bad prognostics and may show immunocytochemical features indicating glial and/or neuronal differentiation.

INTRODUCTION: Renal primitive neuroectodermal tumour (rPNET) is a rare entity, typically affecting young adults. The diagnosis is usually confirmed through histopathology. A multidisciplinary approach to treatment is essential due to its poor prognosis.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A systematic literature review was conducted, and a descriptive analysis of significant variables from 128 cases is presented.
RESULTS AND DISCUSSION: The literature review indicated a slightly higher incidence in females (54.2%), with a mean age at presentation of 33 years (range: 16-73 years). The most common symptoms

Primitive neuroectodermal tumors (PNETs) are a type of malignant tumors made up of small neuroectodermal-derived round cells that affect soft tissue and bone, with a wide range of clinical symptoms and histological commonalities depending on the site of the tumor. PNETs account for 4% of all pediatric and adolescent cancers. Here we report a case of a peripheral primitive neuroectodermal tumor in a five-year-old boy. Two days before admission, he complained of multiple attacks of vomiting and one episode of hematemesis, associated with subjective fever, abdominal pain, and distention. He also

We experienced a rare case of an endobronchial primitive neuroectodermal tumor of the left main bronchus. Initially we suspected pneumothorax caused by a collapsed left upper lobe and an air-entrapped lower lobe. After tube thoracostomy, the pneumothorax persisted without air leakage. A tumor was detected at the left main bronchus on computed tomography and bronchoscopy, and diagnosed pathologically as small cell lung cancer. Under the presumed diagnosis of limited-stage small cell lung cancer, we performed a left pneumonectomy. The tumor was eventually identified pathologically as a primitive

Primitive neuroectodermal tumors (PNETs) exhibit chromosomal translocations in common with those of Ewing's sarcoma. They usually originate in bone or soft tissue but rarely arise in the vulva. The current case report presents a case of PNET originating in the vulva in a 60-year-old female, who previously underwent enucleation of a vulvar tumor in another hospital. The pathologist suspected a histopathological diagnosis of PNET, and simple vulvectomy and resection of the inguinal lymph nodes were performed. An ~3 cm mass recurred in the right side of the vulva four years following the initial

Primitive neuroectodermal tumor (PNET) is a rare "small round blue cell tumor" that is diagnosed by open biopsy or percutaneous biopsy of the lesion under radiologic guidance. In this case report, we present a novel approach to the diagnosis of a retroperitoneal PNET by endoscopic ultrasound- (EUS-) guided fine needle aspiration (FNA). A 35-year-old man presented with the history of left-sided flank pain and swelling of 3-weeks duration. Computerized tomography (CT) scan of his abdomen revealed a 12.8 × 13 × 12.5 cm cystic and solid mass arising from the retroperitoneum and displacing the thir

BACKGROUND: Non-bacterial thrombotic endocarditis is a severe complication of cancer, rarely reported in gynecologic tumors. However, it can be inaugural and lead to complex diagnostic pathways.
CASE: A 40-year-old woman presented with a stroke, related to an endocarditis. The valvular vegetation was surgically removed, and a malignant node was resected. A PET-scan led to the diagnosis of a myometrial tumor, which was found to be a primitive neuroectodermal tumor (PNET). The patient underwent total abdominal hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy, and systemic chemotherapy which al

We reported a rare case of supratentorial primitive neuroectodermal tumors (sPNET) and reviewed the literature. A 15-year-old girl presented with a one-month history of headache and vomiting. CT scans showed a huge, solid and cystic tumor with calcification, occupying the left anterior cranial fossa. The solid portion of the tumor was hypointense on T1-weighted images, slightly hyperintense on T2-weighted images, hyperintense on diffusion- weighted images, isointense on fluid-attenuated inversion recovery (FLAIR) images, and strongly enhanced after administration of contrast medium. The expans

Primitive neuroectodermal tumors are malignant neoplasms whose classification has been controversial. Spinal primitive neuroectodermal tumors are rare and at the cauda equina are even less common. We report the case of a 40 year-old man with a history of progressive back pain and gait difficulty. After the diagnosis of a primitive neuroectodermal tumor of the cauda equina, the patient presented seeding to the intracranial subarachnoid space followed by a poor outcome. We review the literature of primary spinal primitive neuroectodermal tumors.

A 2-month-old girl with a supratentorial primitive neuroectodermal tumor (PNET), which extended into the skull, is herein presented. The patient underwent total removal of the tumor and also received a course of postoperative chemotherapy. After a follow-up period of 12 months, the infant is alive without recurrence. Histologically, the tumor was composed of poorly differentiated neuroectodermal cells, and these neoplastic cells showed a mild immunohistochemical reaction for GFAP and synaptophysin, and a moderate reactivity for neuron specific enolase and vimentin. In addition, a moderate leve

The occurrence of placental metastasis from maternal primitive neuroectodermal tumor (PNET) is extremely rare. A 33-year-old woman at 33 weeks' gestation was admitted to the hospital. She died of the disease on hospital day 28 because the unresectable tumor was located over a wide area of the retroperitoneum. A neonate was delivered by a caesarean section without evidence of disease and has survived to 1 year of age. Pathologically, the tumor consisted of monotonous small round cells with a high nuclear cytoplasmic ratio, including several pseudorosettes and Homer-Wright-type rosettes. On immu
