PURPOSE: To make recommendations for American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) nurse practitioners (NPs) and university partners who are partnering on community-based participatory (CBPR) research projects. An example of a CBPR study using focus groups to assess an important adolescent health problem is used to illustrate opportunities and challenges for AI/AN NPs.
DATA SOURCES: Thirteen focus groups were held with 95 participants on the reservation where the AI/AN NP was a member and working. Results indicated that a majority of the community represented in the focus groups were concerned about

The purpose of this descriptive study was to explore the problems of community dwelling persons 67 years and older, in meeting their self-care requisites, and the factors in living arrangements associated with these problems. Community nurses in both administration and practice can use the results in planning curative and preventive interventions for all the elderly or for groups of elderly according to living arrangements. These groups were those living alone, living with a spouse or living with other family members. A standardized questionnaire revised from Dr. Agnes Bjørns interview guide u

People who are incarcerated experience a high rate of hepatitis C (HCV) worldwide, and HCV micro-elimination in prisons is an effective strategy to support treatment. In Victoria, British Columbia, administrative barriers limited HCV testing and treatment at Vancouver Island Correctional Centre (VIRCC), and people who were HCV RNA+ were lost to follow up. Cool Aid Community Health Centre (CACHC) is an inner-city, primary care clinic that serves a marginalized population. The CACHC HCV nurse coordinator with the VIRCC nurse held HCV testing 'blitzes' at VIRCC and offered phlebotomy for screenin

INTRODUCTION: The spread and implementation of digital synchronous video communication in telecare and teletherapy has recently increased significantly, not just because of COVID-19 but also due to a global trend towards more digital healthcare services in the last two decades. This shift prompts the question of how digital telesetting differs from a face-to-face setting and which aspects are fundamental.
METHODS: As the first part of a mixed-method study, qualitative interviews (n = 20) were conducted from July 2021 to January 2022. Health professionals (n = 13) and patients (n = 7) from occ

Homeless adults are at increased risk of latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI), which can lead to active tuberculosis (TB) disease. The purpose of this study was to assess acceptability and feasibility of a six-month, nurse-led, community health worker-partnered short-course treatment (3HP) LTBI adherence model for a high risk, LTBI positive, homeless population. Informed by our community advisory board (CAB) and community-based participatory research principles (CBPR), a qualitative study was undertaken and used focus group discussions to identify perspectives of homeless men and women who had

INTRODUCTION: Trauma is a risk factor for mental health problems. Pathological dissociation is often theorized as a response to trauma, yet it remains a controversial topic.
AIM: The present study is one of the very few to examine trauma and dissociation in a representative general population sample and is the first of its kind in the Chinese context. We examined the prevalence of pathological dissociation and its association with trauma, potential iatrogenic effects, and functional impairment.
METHODS: A random sample of community Hong Kong Chinese adults (N = 945) completed validated measu

This paper presents a conceptual nursing model that integrates artificial intelligence (AI) technologies to enhance mental health crisis management for rural Chinese adolescent communities. Addressing the critical gap between isolation and therapeutic connection, this nursing-led framework responds to escalating mental health crises among rural Chinese adolescents, characterized by elevated suicide rates and severely limited access to professional psychiatric nursing support. The model positions psychiatric nurses as central coordinators who utilize AI-enhanced tools for early crisis detection

BACKGROUND: In South Africa, primary health care is the first point of contact with the health system for at least 85% of the population, yet early hearing detection and intervention continues to be elusive in these settings. Nurses at community level may, therefore, be missing an opportunity to identify prelingual infants with hearing losses and alter their developmental trajectory.
AIM: To determine primary health care nurses' experiences, practices and beliefs regarding hearing loss in infants.
SETTING: The study was conducted in the eThekwini District of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.

BACKGROUND: Ageing is a process involving physical, social, psychological, spiritual and cultural changes. The elderly's personal characteristics may change, and the place where they live can lead to differences in their individual life expectations. Nursing home or community dwelling, where the elderly live can affect their psychological and spiritual well-being and their search for meaning in life. This study aimed to determine mental health symptoms, spiritual well-being and meaning in life among older adults living in nursing homes and community dwellings.
METHODS: This cross-sectional st

Black and Latino young men who have sex with men (YMSM) are at disproportionate risk for sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), including HIV. This study informs school-centered strategies for connecting YMSM to health services by describing their willingness, perceived safety, and experiences in talking to school staff about sexual health. Cross-sectional data were collected from Black and Latino YMSM aged 13-19 through web-based questionnaires (N = 415) and interviews (N = 32). School nurses were the staff members youth most often reported willingness to talk to about HIV testing (37.8%), STD

BACKGROUND: Community services work with vulnerable families to assist them to link with health, education and welfare services. Community placements provide nursing students with understandings of the health impacts of social circumstances on broad population's. Nurses provide health care for vulnerable populations so it is important for students to gain experience in dealing with various population groups in a variety of settings. Community placements can increase student confidence to provide care for all people in the acute care setting.

Modern Western societies are characterized by a considerable cultural and ethnic diversity whereby different groups and minorities live side by side. However, not all people are viewed in the same light by the autochthonous population. This is particularly true in the case of Muslim immigrants, who are often prone to negative stereotyping and prejudice. This has become increasingly apparent since the 2001 terrorist attacks in New York and the subsequent attacks in various Western countries. This study seeks to analyze the relation between female nurses and those labeled by nurses as "Muslim fa

BACKGROUND: The BETTER intervention is an effective comprehensive evidence-based program for chronic disease prevention and screening (CDPS) delivered by trained prevention practitioners (PPs), a new role in primary care. An adapted program, BETTER HEALTH, delivered by public health nurses as PPs for community residents in low income neighbourhoods, was recently shown to be effective in improving CDPS actions. To obtain a nuanced understanding about the CDPS needs of community residents and how the BETTER HEALTH intervention was perceived by residents, we studied how the intervention was adapt

New approaches to pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) care among adolescents and young adults (AYAs) that optimize self-care and personalize treatment are warranted to address age and racial-ethnic PID-related health disparities. Here we describe the 13-month preliminary feasibility and acceptability outcomes of recruitment, retention, and intervention delivery for Technology Enhanced Community Health Precision Nursing (TECH-PN) randomized controlled trial. Urban AYAs 13-25 years assigned female sex at birth with acute mild-moderate PID provided baseline and follow-up interview data and vaginal
