[Complex prosthetic rehabilitation of a patient with temporomandibular dysfunction. Case report].

There are varying opinions regarding the contribution of occlusal interferences to the development and progression of temporomandibular dysfunction (TMD). Several studies have demonstrated that the use of occlusal adjustment might prevent the development of TMD and the exacerbation of its symptoms. Since the aetiology of TMD is multiple, the prosthodontic treatment cannot always be sufficient, but tends to be effective in some cases. The present article describes a case of a complex prosthetic rehabilitation of a patient with TMD that originates from her previous prosthesis, resulting in reduc

Health risk from occlusal interferences in females.

The purpose of the present study was to test the effect of elimination of occlusal interferences on the incidence of requests for treatment of symptoms in the head and cervicobrachial region. One hundred and twelve females 45 years of age or under, were randomly divided into a treatment group (n = 54) and a control group (n = 58). The former underwent occlusal adjustment and the latter grinding that did not affect occlusal contacts. The treatments were repeated every 12 months over a period of 4 years. The outcome variable was a spontaneous request for treatment. Statistical analyses included

Temporomandibular Disorders: "Occlusion" Matters!

By analogy with the journal's title Pain Research and Management, this review describes TMD Research and Management. More specific are the (1) research aspects of "occlusion," still one of the most controversial topics in TMD, and (2) as much as possible evidence-based management aspects of "TMD" for the dental practitioner. Research. The disorders temporomandibular dysfunction and the synonymous craniomandibular dysfunction are still being discussed intensely in the literature. Traditionally, attention is mostly devoted to occlusion and its relationship with these disorders. The conclusions r

[Clinical decision-making for immediate restoration of terminal dentition: determination and transfer of jaw relations].

Immediate implant-supported fixed restoration in edentulous jaws demonstrates a success rate comparable to that of conventional implant restoration. However, this approach still presents a certain degree of technique sensitivity. In the field of immediate implant-supported fixed restoration in dentistry, a repeatable and stable jaw relation is the prerequisite for the design and fabrication of prostheses. It also reduces chairside denture placement and occlusal adjustment time and lowers the risk of occlusion-related complications. For patients with terminal dentition, the precise transfer of

Occlusal Overload and Periodontitis: Integrating Mechanisms, Clinical Evidence, and Emerging Perspectives-A Scoping Review.

BACKGROUND: Occlusal trauma has long been debated as a contributing factor in periodontitis. Excessive occlusal loading acting on inflamed tissues may accelerate periodontal breakdown through inflammatory and proteolytic pathways. This scoping review synthesizes current evidence from clinical, animal, and in vitro studies on the mechanistic and clinical interplay between occlusal trauma and periodontal degradation. METHODS: In accordance with Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses extension for scoping reviews (PRISMA-ScR), PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, Embase, a

Occlusal Equilibration for the Management of Temporomandibular Disorders.

The concept of equilibrating the occlusion to treat and/or to prevent temporomandibular disorders found its background in the old precepts of gnathology, but an assessment of the available literature as well as an appraisal of its biological rationale suggests that it is not recommended for routine use.

Correction of the maxillary occlusal plane relieves persistent headache and shoulder stiffness.

It has been known for many years that deformations of the occlusal plane of the teeth cause indefinite symptoms such as headaches or stiffness of the shoulders. However, how the occlusal plane of the teeth should be corrected remains uncertain. The purpose of this study was to examine whether a correction of the deviation of the maxillary occlusal plane (MOP) from the center of dens of axis vertebrae (DAV) improves symptoms in patients having intractable headache or shoulder-stiffness. Forty patients who complained of dental abnormalities and persistent headache or shoulder-stiffness that had

Examining the prevalence and characteristics of abfractionlike cervical lesions in a population of U.S. veterans.

BACKGROUND: Abfraction is believed to be caused by biomechanical loading forces. It may be due to flexure and ultimate fatigue of tooth tissues that occur away from the point of occlusal loading. Other possible causes of cervical lesions include toothbrush abrasion and erosion. The purpose of this study was to investigate the characteristics and prevalence of abfraction-like lesions in a population of U.S. veterans. METHODS: The authors evaluated 103 teeth with noncarious cervical lesions in 32 subjects and characterized them based on the surface on which the lesion was located, history of to

Spontaneous repositioning of pathologically migratory mandibular anterior teeth following periodontal surgical treatment: a case report with 4-year follow-up and literature review.

Periodontal health is the foundation of both oral and general health. Consequently, the high global prevalence of periodontitis and its associated complications, such as tooth migration in moderate-to-severe cases, demand serious attention. Early detection and treatment of tooth migration are essential for favorable long-term outcomes. This article discusses a case of localized aggressive periodontitis (classified as stage III, grade C in 2018) that was managed through periodontal surgery. This intervention led to the spontaneous repositioning of the affected mandibular anterior teeth, which h
