Do nurses have a different physical health profile? A systematic review of experimental and observational studies on nurses' physical health.

AIM: To review the evidence on nurses' health systematically. BACKGROUND: Nurses are one of the most important resources of a health system. They are subjected to biological, socio-economic, cultural and health system factors that determine their health. Although mental and physical health problems seem to prevail among nurses, literature is often contradictory. The literature on health styles, health behaviours and self perceived health of nurses is also unclear. DESIGN: Systematic review of experimental and observational studies on nurses' health. METHODS: Forty-three databases searched.

'No problem' advice during occupational health examinations.

In many countries, occupational health examinations are considered to have a central role in ensuring that employees' health and work ability are maintained or enhanced. In contemporary Finland, the institutional goal of these examinations is to construct a health plan based on the client's own aims, and in this paper we analyse how occupational health nurses and clients in Finland negotiate what is considered to be a problem. The data consist of 10 video-recorded occupational health examination encounters, analysed by means of conversation analysis. Our analysis focuses on 'no problem' advice

A national cross-sectional study on latent profile analysis of occupational fatigue among Chinese nurses in the early post-COVID-19 era.

BACKGROUND: Occupational fatigue is a widespread condition within the nursing workforce, adversely affecting both nurses' health and patient safety. The protracted duration of the COVID-19 pandemic, approaching 3 years, has exacerbated the challenges faced by nurses globally. The escalation in patient numbers and the high incidence of infections among healthcare workers have intensified occupational fatigue. This study seeks to explore the enduring impact of the pandemic on occupational fatigue among Chinese nurses through a latent profile analysis, and to identify the associated risk factors.

Evaluating risk: rabies exposure and occupational implications.

Despite advances in vaccination, rabies remains a significant worldwide public health problem. Although the death rate is low in the United States, treatment and prevention costs are high. Occupational health nurses and occupational health nurse practitioners should consider rabies epidemiology, pathophysiology, and disease prevention and management when evaluating an employee's risk of exposure and subsequent infection.

Origin of a Musculoskeletal Guideline: Caring for Older Workers.

Today's employers are hiring a more age-diverse workforce. As Americans work longer, age-related changes often create activity limitations. Musculoskeletal disorders affect many older workers heightening their risk of workplace injury. Compounded by multiple comorbidities, older workers will need occupational health nurses with expert knowledge to maintain safe and productive workplaces. Older workers do not experience as many injuries as younger workers, but when they are injured, recovery is longer. The author developed and conducted a survey of New Jersey occupational health nurses. The res

Among health care personnel, nurses have the highest rate of back pain, with an annual prevalence of 40-50% and a lifetime prevalence of 35-80%. The American Nursing Association believes that manual patient handling is unsafe and is directly responsible for musculoskeletal disorders encountered in nurses. It has been

Occupational health in the USA in the 21st century.

Comparable to the confusion encountered in the birth of the machine age is the perplexing reconfiguration of the United States' health care system. Paralleling the advances in medicine have been the divesting mergers and downsizing of industry, coupled with globalization, which have released millions of long-time workers. The labour contingent is changing, with the addition of great numbers of women and immigrant workers, and the manufacturing economy has become one of service and information. Serving the occupational health (OH) needs of such a force have been the professional societies of ph
