To evaluate the activity of pyrrolidonyl arylamidase (PYR) for the differentiation and identification of nonfermenting gram negative rods (NFGNR), 293 isolates were tested. HISTORY AND CLINICAL FINDINGS: A 20-year-old Jordanian exchange student presents with recurrent fever, night sweats, cough, and swelling and redness around the ankle. Physical examination further reveals bilateral ankle arthritis and painful cervical lymphadenopathy.
INVESTIGATIONS AND DIAGNOSIS: Laboratory tests show signs of autoimmune hemolytic anemia, elevated liver function tests, and moderate laboratory signs of inflammation. We have previously produced and characterized four monoclonal antibodies to the Brucella DnaK protein which were derived from mice infected with B. melitensis or immunized with the B. melitensis cell wall fraction. BACKGROUND: Over the past few decades, the Brucella genus has seen a significant increase in novel strains that deviate from classical Brucella spp. due to their atypical phenotypes. B. inopinata, an atypical Brucella species first isolated from a patient, was recently found in a White's tree frog, raising the question of whether amphibians are reservoirs for these emerging human pathogens. A total of 85 chromate-resistant bacteria were isolated from the rhizosphere of water hyacinth grown in Mariout Lake, Egypt, as well as the sediment and water of this habitat.
