OBJECTIVE: To study the clinicopathologic characteristics of organizing pneumonia of the autopsies in elder and to analyze the possible underlying etiologic factors.
METHODS: Ninety-five cases of organizing pneumonia were found from 635 elderly autopsy reports of the Beijing Hospital since 1980. The morphologic and imaginal features were analyzed.
RESULTS: The foci of organizing pneumonia in our series were often small, patchy, scattered and adjacent to other lung lesion. There were, however, some variations in cases with different underlying conditions. The conditions associated with organi

Bronchitis obliterans organizing pneumonia (BOOP) is an unusual pulmonary condition. The clinical features and the radiologic findings are useful for the diagnosis of BOOP. However it is necessary to confirm its presence by an open or transbronchial pulmonary biopsy specimen. BOOP is usually idiopathic, although it may also occur in association with connective tissue disease, some haematologic disorders and in response to viral infections. The association of Legionella pneumophila infection with BOOP is very rare.

The association of bronchiolitis obliterans organizing pneumonia (BOOP) with polymyalgia rheumatica is rare, and only one case has previously been described. This study reports on the case of an 80 yr-old male who presented with malaise, nonproductive cough and exertional dyspnoea for several weeks, along with a history of bilateral shoulder and pelvic girdle pain of several months' duration. The chest radiograph revealed a pneumonic infiltrate in the right lower lobe, which was unresponsive to antibiotics. Bronchoscopy, bronchoalveolar lavage and a transbronchial lung biopsy established the d

BACKGROUND: Bronchiolitis obliterans with organizing pneumonia (BOOP) is recently described clinicopathological entity, with only a few series of patients reported. Terminology is unclear, which together with its rarity lead to a poor understanding of the entity.
OBJECTIVE: To review the clinical, radiological, and laboratory features and the response to therapy in cases of BOOP in our environment.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 463 lung biopsies were obtained at Móstoles Hospital, Madrid, from 1992 to 1994. In six cases the anatomo-pathological diagnosis was BOOP. Clinical histories of t

A 70 year old man presented with symptoms and laboratory findings suggestive of chlamydial pneumonia. Despite adequate antibiotic therapy, his condition did not improve and transbronchial biopsies disclosed a typical feature of bronchiolitis obliterans organizing pneumonia (BOOP). After initiation of corticosteroid therapy, there were marked clinical and radiographic improvements. This report demonstrates that chlamydial infection may be associated with BOOP.

Bronchiolitis obliterans organizing pneumonia is the most serious disease of the bronchioli. An idiopathic form of the disease important for differential diagnosis in incipient forms of pulmonary fibrosis has been reported in the literature, along with other forms associated to drug use, infections, and collagen and localized diseases. We describe 3 patients with bronchiolitis obliterans organizing pneumonia, one associated with rheumatoid arthritis and consumption of gold salts, one with HIV infection and one localized form associated with pulmonary hydatidosis.

Here, we reported two cases of nonspecific interstitial pneumonia overlap organizing pneumonia (NSIP/OP) with lung-dominant connective tissue disease (LD-ILD). The first case is a patient with hands of chapped skin, right-sided pleuritic chest discomfort, weakness, positive ANA and antibodies to Ro/SS-A (+++) and Ro-52 (++). In the second case, there were Reynaud's disease, and nucleolus-ANA increased (1:800). Chest high resolution CT scan in both cases showed ground-glass opacifications, predominantly in basal and subpleural region and the pathologic manifestation were correlated with NSIP/OP

Background. Organizing pneumonia is an uncommon diffuse interstitial lung disease that affects the terminal and respiratory bronchioles, alveolar ducts, and alveoli. Most cases are idiopathic, but some are associated with infections. We present an uncommon case of organizing pneumonia associated with herpes simplex virus-1 (HSV-1). Case. A 39-year-old man with hypertension presented with dyspnea, fever, and productive cough for 2 weeks. He was treated for 5 days for acute bronchitis as an outpatient with no improvement. His examination revealed mild respiratory distress, O2 saturation 92% on r

HISTORY AND FINDINGS: A previously healthy 58-year-old woman was admitted with rapidly worsening dyspnoea, dry cough and subfebrile temperature. Chest radiogram showed spotty infiltrations, especially in the bases of both lungs. She was dyspnoic with mild tachypnoea (24/min) and mild cyanosis of the lips. Fine, non-resonant rales were heard over the middle and lower lobes bilaterally.
INVESTIGATIONS: Erythrocyte sedimentation rate was markedly raised (97/110 mm), arterial oxygen partial pressure slightly decreased (45 mm Hg), CO2 partial pressure was 32 mm Hg. Bronchoalveolar lavage was unrem

BACKGROUND: Secondary organizing pneumonia (SOP) may develop following infections. Psittacosis, caused by Chlamydia psittaci (C. psittaci), is a zoonotic disease transmitted from birds to humans. It can present with a wide spectrum of symptoms, ranging from mild flu-like illness to life-threatening severe pneumonia. Cases of C. psittaci infection complicated by organizing pneumonia (OP) are rarely reported, and delayed treatment may pose a life-threatening risk.
METHODS: We report a case of C. psittaci pneumonia complicated by OP. To identify additional cases and clarify the clinical features

A patient with pneumonia had a fever for 2 weeks. After the initial anti-infection treatment failed, he was diagnosed with C. psittaci pneumonia complicated with organizing pneumonia, through next-generation sequencing (mNGS) of bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) and lung biopsy. He was treated with antibiotics and corticosteroids for 2 months.

Infliximab is a biologic agent used to treat moderate-to-severe ulcerative colitis by inhibiting the TNF cytokine signaling. Off-target effects of TNF inhibitors include immune suppression and disruption of the tissue repair response. Previous case reports have linked infliximab to several patterns of acute pulmonary toxicity; however, the potential for severe infliximab-induced pneumonitis on long-term respiratory impairment remains largely uncharacterized.

BACKGROUND: Cryptogenic organizing pneumonia (COP) improves rapidly following corticosteroid treatment; however, relapse is common. Therefore, this retrospective observational study aimed to clarify the clinical outcomes of COP and identify the predictive factors for relapse.
METHODS: The laboratory findings, pulmonary function test results, computed tomography (CT) findings, and clinical outcomes of 60 consecutive COP patients treated at our institution between 2007 and 2013 were retrospectively reviewed. The clinical characteristics of COP patients who did and did not show improvement were

BACKGROUND: Organizing pneumonia secondary to pulmonary tuberculosis is rare. Moreover, the temporal boundary between pulmonary tuberculosis and secondary organizing pneumonia has not been defined. We report a case of secondary organizing pneumonia associated with pulmonary tuberculosis occurring after nine months of antituberculosis treatment.
CASE SUMMARY: A 54 years old man, previously diagnosed with pulmonary tuberculosis and tuberculous pleurisy, underwent nine months of antituberculosis treatment. Follow-up lung computed tomography revealed multiple new subpleural ground-glass opacities

RATIONALE: Cryptogenic organizing pneumonia (COP) is a type of pneumonia with unknown cause, presenting with symptoms like dyspnea, fever, and cough. Solanine poisoning can cause symptoms like increased heart rate, rapid breathing, sore throat, diarrhea, vomiting, and fever, but there are no known cases of it causing COP.
PATIENT CONCERNS: A 43-year-old man had a dry cough, worse at night, with phlegm and chest tightness after eating sprouted potatoes. No history of surgeries or family medical issues.
DIAGNOSIS: Laboratory tests and metagenomic next-generation sequencing of bronchoalveolar l

We describe the case of a middle-aged male who presented with incidental findings of a left retrocardiac opacity seen on a chest radiograph. Subsequent computed tomography (CT) of the thorax showed multiple subpleural lesions with central necrosis. A diagnosis of acute fibrinous organizing pneumonia was made histologically upon biopsy of the subpleural lesions. The patient responded well to steroids, with full resolution of the subpleural lesions on repeat CT of the thorax. This report illustrates a case of acute fibrinous organizing pneumonia wherein the patient responded well to corticostero

Rheumatoid arthritis is a multisystem autoimmune inflammatory disease that typically presents as a case of arthritis that can later progress to involve multiple organs. Interstitial lung disease is one of the many extra-articular manifestations of rheumatoid arthritis. We discuss a case of rheumatoid arthritis that presented with interstitial lung disease prior to the development of arthritis along with the discussion of novel anti-carbamylated protein antibody as a serological marker for the diagnosis of seronegative rheumatoid arthritis.
