The profession of orthodontics is projected to face a multitude of challenges. Do cyclic forces accelerate the rate of tooth movement and hence the speed of orthodontic treatment? Would bioengineered cementum and dentine be a solution to root resorption? What would orthodontics be like when bioengineered periodontal ligament and alveolar bone become clinical practice, or one day, entire teeth are bioengineered? Would it be possible to selectively differentiate stem cells into osteoblasts or osteoclasts by either static or cyclic forces? What is the new demand on orthodontic expertise with incr

Angle Class II division 1 malocclusion has been one of the most encountered problems in the orthodontic practice. In growing patients, mandibular repositioning appliances are the method of choice to induce mandibular growth and are termed functional appliances. This study was carried out to investigate the possible effect of the Sabbagh Universal Spring2 (SUS2) on the dental and skeletal cephalometric measurements in the permanent dentition of ten growing patients with Class II division 1 malocclusion and to compare its effect with the similar available data of similar fixed functional applian

INTRODUCTION: Modified Twin-block therapy followed by fixed appliances (TBFA) is a standard treatment modality in Class II malocclusion; however, there is little information regarding the stability of this approach. We aimed to assess the stability of Class II correction with TBFA and to evaluate factors that may affect stability.
METHODS: A prospective evaluation involving convenience sampling of 64 participants treated with TBFA was undertaken over 12 months. Study models and lateral cephalometric radiographs were obtained to record overjet and molar relationship, Peer Assessment Rating sco

RATIONALE: Orthognathic surgery cases are inherently challenging to treat with lingual appliances due to the complexities of orthodontic management and difficulties in achieving intermaxillary fixation during surgery. This challenge is further amplified in cases involving asymmetric space closure, such as those with a missing molar on one side and a premolar on the other, a scenario not yet documented in the literature. This case report presents the orthodontic-orthognathic management of an adult patient requiring space closure of asymmetric missing lower teeth.
PATIENT CONCERNS: A 30-year-ol

Low-angle skeletal class II malocclusions are often observed with sagittal and vertical developmental abnormalities of the mandible. Two-phase orthodontic treatment of functional orthopedic therapy combined with fixed correction is one of the most common methods to treat of skeletal class II malocclusions. This case report describes the two-phase orthodontic treatment of a patient with severe low-angle skeletal class II malocclusion. A Twin Block orthodontic appliance was used to improve mandibular growth, and the adjustment of the occlusal relationship using a fixed appliance after functional

Dentinogenesis imperfecta (DI) and amelogenesis imperfecta (AI) are hereditary abnormalities of dental hard tissues. Dental abnormalities may also be accompanied by symptoms of disorders such as osteogenesis imperfecta. AI and DI have a significant burden on socializing, function, and comfort; therefore, frequent screening and accurate diagnosis is the cornerstone of managing such conditions. Both AI and DI could be treated with many strategies, including restorative, prosthetic, periodontal, surgical, and orthodontics treatment. The interdisciplinary combination of orthodontic, prosthodontic,

Distraction osteogenesis devices followed by hybrid functional appliance therapy and fixed orthodontic appliance therapy were used to correct a variety of maxillofacial skeletal and dental deformities in 4 patients. The patients underwent procedures to lengthen the mandibular ramus and body. Transcutaneous pins were used to activate the distraction devices. After achieving the desired skeletal position, the distraction devices were maintained for 2 to 3 months to allow ossification. Following distraction, functional orthodontic appliance therapy was initiated during growth to correct the cant

This report describes the surgical-orthodontic treatment procedures of a patient with condylar hypoplasia. Condylar hypoplasia is a major factor in any facial abnormality in a growing child. This case report describes a patient with a facial anomaly with an acquired unilateral condylar hypoplasia. His asymmetry was corrected by using functional therapy for the correction of muscle tonus and distraction osteogenesis for lengthening the mandibular ramal height. Fixed orthodontic appliances were used for conventional orthodontic therapy and final occlusal adjustment.
