BACKGROUND: Ankle osteoarthritis affects approximately 3% of adults globally, and patients in the middle and late stages often face the risk of joint fusion or replacement. Although simple supranasal osteotomy is an accepted treatment for mid-stage ankle arthritis, its isolated application may alter the biomechanics of the talofibular joint, increase lateral pressure, and lead to postoperative pain; the role of combined fibular osteotomy remains controversial in existing literature. Therefore we performed a retrospective to investigate: 1) the clinical efficacy of the supramalleolar osteotomy

We have reviewed 20 patients with stage-IIIB and stage-IV Kienböck's disease in order to examine the efficacy of two forms of radial osteotomy, namely radial wedge osteotomy and radial shortening. Lateral closing wedge osteotomies and radial shortenings were carried out on 11 and nine patients, respectively. There were no preoperative differences with respect to age, gender, and radiological stage. After a mean follow-up of 29 months, all patients, in both groups, had either a good or an excellent outcome. After the lateral closing wedge osteotomy, the radioscaphoid angle significantly increas

INTRODUCTION: The current most common technique for mandibular split is the sagittal split osteotomy described by Obwegeser and modified by Dalpont and Epker. Several studies have shown a lower face enlargement while employing these techniques. The supra-basilar sagittal split osteotomy described in 2017 seems to be an interesting alternative as mandibular angles remain in continuity with the internal valve. The aim of this study was to evaluate lower face enlargement by comparing two techniques: sagittal split osteotomy and supra-basilar sagittal split.

OBJECTIVE: To determine the effect of osteotomy angle, reduction technique, and tibial plateau rotation angle on angular and rotational limb deformities.
STUDY DESIGN: Geometric comparison using bone models.
METHODS: Rotational osteotomies were made in the proximal metaphysis of artificial tibias at 0 degrees, 10 degrees, 20 degrees, -10 degrees, and -20 degrees from perpendicular with respect to either the proximodistal and craniocaudal tibial axes. Negative-numbered angles represented osteotomies made from distal to proximal or caudal to cranial. Changes in tibial angulation and torsion we

PURPOSE OF THE STUDY: Available studies on Scarf osteotomies of the first metatarsal (M1) and first phalange (P1) shortening and varus displacement have reported good results, but have have not focused on complications. We reviewed a consecutive series of 475 feet operated on over a five year period. Our goal was to determine the incidence of complications and to compare our data with reports in the literature. We wanted to know if association with Weil osteotomy on the lateral metatarsals affects the rate of complications.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: We used the following inclusion criteria: hallu

STUDY DESIGN: Retrospective case controlled study.
OBJECTIVE: To describe the amount of correction obtained with different types of osteotomies in the cervical spine when treating cervical deformity.
SUMMARY OF BACKGROUND DATA: Although the corrective power of various osteotomies in the thoracic and lumbar spine are well described, there are no reports in the literature on the corrective capabilities of osteotomies in the cervical spine to guide preoperative planning for cervical and cervicothoracic deformities.
METHODS: Patients who underwent cervical osteotomies for cervical deformity wer

Repeated sagittal split osteotomy might impose an increased risk for damage of the inferior alveolar nerve. Another contemporary orthognathic issue is surgical management of malocclusion following condylar resorption. Here we describe a modified C-osteotomy technique as a proposed solution for these difficulties in orthognathic surgery. The modified C-osteotomy might induce less stress on the condyles reducing the risk for relapse subsequent to condylar resorption, as well as reduce the risk of inferior alveolar nerve damage.

INTRODUCTION: The Chevron osteotomy is a reliable and popular osteotomy for treating hallux valgus worldwide. Many modifications have been described, but none of them address the rotational deformity of the first metatarsal. The objective of this study is to describe a variation of biplanar Chevron osteotomy which can address first metatarsal rotation when necessary.
METHODS: The indications for the Rotational Biplanar Chevron Osteotomy (RBCO) are mild to moderate hallux valgus deformity associated with hallux pronation related to internal rotation of the first metatarsal bone. We describe a

OBJECTIVES: Correction of calcaneal malalignment as part of a hindfoot correction procedure.
INDICATIONS: Varus and valgus malalignment of the calcaneus, increased calcaneal pitch.
CONTRAINDICATIONS: Osteoarthritis of the subtalar joint. Fixed and symptomatic deformities of the subtalar joint.
SURGICAL TECHNIQUE: After having identified and marked the desired planes of the osteotomy under image intensifier, a percutaneous v‑shaped calcaneal osteotomy is performed. The osteotomy allows 3‑dimensional correction of the calcaneus by defining the planes of the osteotomy. The procedure allows cor

BACKGROUND: In comparison with the abundant literature on Le Fort I and III osteotomies, there is scant information on the Le Fort II osteotomy. Our goal in this study was to define the indications and techniques of the elective Le Fort II osteotomy. We reviewed our 30-year experience, which is the longest series of patients treated with Le Fort II osteotomies at a single institution.
METHODS: A review of the records of 13 consecutive patients at our institution with a diagnosis of Le Fort II was conducted. Data analyzed included demographic information, indications, techniques, complications

BACKGROUND: The surgical treatment of hallux valgus with an increased distal metatarsal articular angle (DMAA) should include the correction of this angle to maintain a congruent joint. The purpose of this study was to report our results with this procedure.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: From January 2000 until December 2006, 23 feet (13 patients) with an increased DMAA were operated upon by the same surgeon using a biplanar chevron osteotomy. The technique was modified making the plantar cut more horizontal and only removing a wedge from the dorsal cut. Clinical and radiographic evaluation was made

Curved intertrochanteric varus osteotomy is osteotomized between the lesser trochanter and the greater trochanter which is curved so as to place the femoral head in a varus position by rotating it in the coronal plane. After mean follow-up of 5.4 years of 57 joints, approximately 98% of joints were preserved and 90% of joints were protected from the progression of disease. Curved intertrochanteric varus osteotomy can be used to preserve the hip joint in patients with osteonecrosis of the femoral head.

OBJECTIVE: Surgical correction of deformities of the proximal femur caused by epiphyseal displacement by restorative (usually inflection and internal rotation) osteotomy at the intertrochanteric level with the aim of reducing both the offset disorder of the coxal end of the femur that is causing impingement and the prevalence of secondary coxarthrosis.
INDICATIONS: Chronic and subacute manifestations of slipped capital femoral epiphysis with an epiphyseal dislocation in the radiographic axial view of 30-60 degrees (ET angle) and DeltaED > 20 degrees (CCD angle minus ED angle) in the anteropos

Twenty paediatric patients with congenital dislocation of the hip were treated with a modification of the classic technique of Salter's osteotomy. Along with open reduction and femoral shortening osteotomy, the resected femoral segment, which measured 10-40 mm in width (mean 16 mm), was used to stabilize the Salter's osteotomy. The patients were aged between 2 and 9 years (mean 3.8 years). After a mean follow-up of 16 months (range 6-60 months) all patients had full bone healing and complete incorporation of femoral bone graft with the acetabulum. No patient had re-dislocation, subluxation or

Intertrochanteric osteotomy is an effective surgical option in certain well-selected cases of osteonecrosis of the femoral head. The size of the lesion on plain radiographs in the anteroposterior and lateral projections is a critical determinant of success. The best candidates are patients with less than 50% of head involved in the necrotic sector. Collapse of the femoral head is not a contraindication to osteotomy. Location of the necrotic sector determines whether varus, valgus, flexion, or extension are most appropriate alone or in combination.

Osteotomy may be indicated in digital phalanges to correct angular or rotational deformity resulting from malunited fracture, epiphyseal arrest, or congenital or developmental causes. The use of fine power tools facilitates precise correction. lateral angulation is corrected by closing wedge osteotomy, dorsal angulation by opening wedge and bone graft, rotational deformity by transverse osteotomy, and derotation through the involved phalanx. Smooth Kirschner wires stabilize the osteotomies to permit early joint motion. These procedures can safely be performed in children.
