The effect of bacterial secretion of an exopolysaccharide (EPS) on rhizosphere soil physical properties was investigated by inoculating strain NAS206, which was isolated from the rhizosphere of wheat (Triticum durum L.) growing in a Moroccan vertisol and was identified as Pantoea aglomerans. Phenotypic identification of this strain with the Biotype-100 system was confirmed by amplified ribosomal DNA restriction analysis. After inoculation of wheat seedlings with strain NAS206, colonization increased at the rhizoplane and in root-adhering soil (RAS) but not in bulk soil. Colonization further in

Pantoea agglomerans is a Gram-negative bacterium commonly isolated from environmental sources such as plants and soil. Infections in humans are usually reported following penetrating wounds or in hospital settings due to contaminated medical equipment. Neonatal sepsis caused by this organism is rare. Late onset sepsis in neonatal intensive care units due to contaminated parenteral nutrition solutions has been reported. This case report describes early onset sepsis due to P agglomerans in an extremely preterm neonate, with no known maternal risk factors. The patient had a fulminant clinical cou

Pantoea agglomerans is a Gram-negative facultative anaerobic bacillus causing a wide range of opportunistic infections in humans including septicemia, pneumonia, septic arthritis, wound infections and meningitis. To date, the determinants of virulence, antibiotic resistance, metabolic features conferring survival and host-associated pathogenic potential of this bacterium remain largely underexplored. In this study, we sequenced and assembled the whole-genome of P. agglomerans KM1 isolated from kimchi in South Korea. The genome contained one circular chromosome of 4,039,945 bp, 3 mega plasmids,

Six isolates recovered from coffee seeds giving off a potato-like flavour were studied. Gene sequencing (rrs and rpoB) showed they belong to the genus Pantoea. By DNA-DNA hybridization, the isolates constituted a genomic species with less than 17% relatedness to 96 strains representing enterobacterial species. Multilocus sequence analysis (gyrB, rpoB, atpD and infB genes) showed the isolates to represent a discrete species of the genus Pantoea. Nutritional versatility of the novel species was poor. The novel species is proposed as Pantoea coffeiphila sp.nov. and its type strain is Ca04(T) ( =C

Pantoea agglomerans, a bacterium associated with plants, is not an obligate infectious agent in humans. However, it could be a cause of opportunistic human infections, mostly by wound infection with plant material, or as a hospital-acquired infection, mostly in immunocompromised individuals. Wound infection with P. agglomerans usually follow piercing or laceration of skin with a plant thorn, wooden splinter or other plant material and subsequent inoculation of the plant-residing bacteria, mostly during performing of agricultural occupations and gardening, or children playing. Septic arthritis

Microorganisms belonging to root and soil provide a wide range of services and benefits to the plant by promoting plant growth and controlling phytopathogens. This study aimed to isolate endophytic bacteria from the root nodules of chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) and determine their potential in improving plant growth. A total of nineteen different bacterial morphotypes were isolated from root nodules of chickpea and characterized in vitro for plant growth promotion abilities. All bacterial isolates were able to produce indole acetic acid at varying levels, out of which MCA19 was screened as the

In recent years, green nanotechnology has gained considerable importance for the synthesis of nanoparticles due to its economic viability and biosafety. In the current study, silver nanoparticles were synthesized using two bacterial isolates, H2 and H3, which were isolated from soil samples collected from the Western Ghats, Tamil Nadu, and identified at the species level as Pantoeastewartii (H2) and Priestiaaryabhattai (H3) by sequencing their 16s rRNA genes. Intracellularly synthesized silver nanoparticles were characterized by UV-visible spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy,

Pantoea piersonii IIIF1SW-P2T (basionym Kalamiella piersonii IIIF1SW-P2T), a bacterial species isolated from the International Space Station, was predicted to be non-pathogenic to humans, unlike its clinical counterpart P. piersonii YU22, which induces struvite crystallization and causes toxicity to Human Embryonic Kidney cell line (HEK 293 T). Here, we identify L-asparaginase-mediated cytotoxicity of IIIF1SW-P2T on HEK 293 T in vitro and demonstrate strain's colonization ability in the reproductive tract in vivo using Caenorhabditis elegans as a model system. The recombinant L-asparaginase of

Pantoea stewartii subsp. stewartii (Pss) is a Gram-negative bacterium causing Stewart wilt, a severe disease in maize. Native to North America, it has spread globally through the maize seed trade. Resistant maize varieties and insecticides are crucial to mitigate the disease's economic impact. Pss is a quarantine pest, requiring phytosanitary certification for the seed trade in European countries. Accurate diagnostic tests, including real-time PCR, are fundamental to detect Pss and distinguish it from other bacteria, like Pantoea stewartii subsp. indologenes (Psi), a non-quarantine bacteria as

Excessive, long-term application of chemical fertilizers in sugarcane crops disrupts soil microbial flora and causes environmental pollution and yield decline. The role of endophytic bacteria in improving crop production is now well-documented. In this study, we have isolated and identified several endophytic bacterial strains from the root tissues of five sugarcane species. Among them, eleven Gram-negative isolates were selected and screened for plant growth-promoting characteristics, i.e., production of siderophores, indole-3-acetic acid (IAA), ammonia, hydrogen cyanide (HCN), and hydrolytic

Tea aroma critically influences consumer preference. Pantoea camelliae Z09, isolated from Yunnan sun-dried green tea, enhances the rose-honey aroma of fermented tea infusion. This study investigated aroma formation during liquid-state fermentation using GC-MS, GC-IMS, and molecular docking. GC-MS and GC-IMS identified 223 and 74 volatile organic compounds (VOCs), respectively, including alcohols, ketones, and esters. Six key aroma-active compounds were identified via relative odor activity value (ROAV), while orthogonal partial least squares discriminant analysis (OPLS-DA) revealed 49 differen

Fungal contamination of food with yeast and molds is associated with major economic losses due to spoilage and also poses health risks in the form of mycotoxin production. The strain Pantoea agglomerans APC 4211 isolated from leaves of Ilex aquifolium (holly tree) has broad spectrum antifungal activity against a variety of food spoilage fungi. Genomic analysis of the strain confirmed the presence of biosynthetic gene clusters potentially encoding for the enzymatic machinery required for the production of the antifungal lipopeptide herbicolin A. Pantoea spp. are bacteria that are often detected in the environment and as symbionts of arthropods. They sporadically cause infections in humans and recently extended spectrum beta-lactamases (ESBL)- and carbapenemase-producing strains have started to emerge. In this study, we report the isolation and the complete genome sequence of a strain of Pantoea calida encoding the colistin-resistance gene mcr-9. The strain was isolated from a preterm newborn in a neonatal pathology ward. On clinical examination, his vital signs were normal and blood culture was negative. Rectal swab screening for ESBL

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Phosphorus is one of the low bioavailable macroelements. Use of microorganisms in biofertilizers could release phosphorus from insoluble compounds. Pseudomonas putida P13 and Pantoea agglomerans P5 are well recognized for application as phosphate solubilizing bioinoculants and are used as solid carrier based. Liquid bioinoculants are preferred for economizing production process and longer shelf-life.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Five low cost liquid formulations were examined. Formulations 1, 2 and 3, were phosphate buffer, 0.2% and 0.5% KNO3 dissolved in phosphate buffer
