Pantoprazole as a potential repurposed drug targeting the adenosinergic system in esophageal cancer.

Esophageal cancer remains a major global health burden and is associated with poor prognosis. Adenosine signaling, particularly through CD73 and P1 receptors, contributes to tumor progression and immune modulation. Pantoprazole, a proton pump inhibitor widely used in clinical practice, has recently been suggested as a potential modulator of adenosinergic pathways. This study investigated the ability of pantoprazole to modulate adenosine signaling. In silico docking analyses were performed to assess the binding of pantoprazole to adenosine P1 receptors and CD73, followed by in vitro assays usin

The Effect of Pantoprazole on Midline Closure in Early Chicken Embryos: An Experimental Study.

Pantoprazole is a proton pump inhibitor commonly used to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) by reducing stomach acid production. Although widely used for gastrointestinal issues, its effects on embryonic development remain underexplored. This study investigated the impact of pantoprazole on neural tube closure using a chick embryo model. Fertilised chicken eggs were divided into groups and treated with varying doses of pantoprazole. All embryos were collected on the eighth day of incubation. Both macroscopic and microscopic examinations were conducted to assess developmental abnormal

Role of Daucus carota in Enhancing Antiulcer Profile of Pantoprazole in Experimental Animals.

The carrot plant (Daucus carota) and its components are traditionally reported for the management of gastric ulcers. This study was performed to evaluate the role of carrot when administered concurrently with a conventional antiulcer treatment, pantoprazole, in alleviating gastric and duodenal ulcers in female experimental animals. The study involved standard animal models to determine the ulcer preventive effect using pylorus ligation, ethanol, and stress induced acute gastric ulcer models and duodenal ulcer models involving cysteamine. Acetic acid-induced chronic gastric ulcer and indomethac

Influence of pantoprazole on oesophageal motility, and bile and acid reflux in patients with oesophagitis.

BACKGROUND: Reflux of duodeno-gastric juice into the oesophagus appears to be involved in the pathogenesis of both reflux oesophagitis and oesophageal adenocarcinoma. Although proton pump inhibitors have been shown to decrease acid reflux and heal oesophagitis, their effect on biliary reflux and motility is less clear. AIM: To investigate whether pantoprazole also reduces bile reflux and whether this is paralleled by a change in oesophageal motility. METHODS: Combined 24-h measurements of intraoesophageal bilirubin concentration, pH and pressure were performed in 18 symptomatic patients with

Premedication in pediatric Meckel scintigraphy: pantoprazole versus ranitidine for optimizing scan quality.

BACKGROUND: The standard method for diagnosing Meckel diverticulum and identifying ectopic gastric mucosa is 99 mTc-pertechnetate imaging. Premedication with H2 receptor antagonists enhances the scan's sensitivity by reducing the washout of 99 mTc-pertechnetate activity from the intestinal lumen. OBJECTIVE: After the withdrawal of ranitidine, we compared the efficacy of the proton pump inhibitor pantoprazole as an alternative premedication agent for 99 mTc-pertechnetate Meckel diverticulum imaging. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This study assessed the scan quality of 141 children (aged 1 month to 2

A Retrospective Clinical Investigation of the Safety and Adverse Effects of Pantoprazole in Hospitalized Ruminants.

Clinical safety data for the use of gastroprotectants in hospitalized ruminants is lacking. In human patients, multiple adverse effects are possible from the use of pantoprazole including hematologic and electrolyte abnormalities as well as anaphylaxis and edema. The medical records of all hospitalized cattle, goats, and sheep administered pantoprazole over an ~5-year period were retrospectively analyzed for adverse effects. Seventy-nine eligible patients were observed. Hypomagnesemia was observed after pantoprazole administration in 10 cattle; however, no significant changes were noted when c

[Visual documentation of the stability of intravenous solutions of omeprazole (Losec) and pantoprazole (Pantoloc)].

Patients with complications of peptic ulcers, high grade reflux oesophagitis, or Zollinger Ellison syndrome need a sufficient permanent acid suppression. In appropriate indications they receive proton pump inhibitors (PPI) intravenously or via perfusion over a longer period, if an oral application is not possible. PPIs are prodrugs, which should be converted into the active principle in the acidic canaliculus at pH 1 of the parietal cell. Otherwise they would be activated prematurely. Immediate chemical degradation causes discolouration. Aim of the study was to compare pH stabilities of the in

Pantoprazole: a new proton pump inhibitor in the management of upper gastrointestinal disease.

Pantoprazole, the third proton pump inhibitor (PPI) to become available, has been extensively investigated. Pantoprazole inhibits acid more powerfully than histamine H(2) receptor antagonists (H(2)RAs) and omperazole 20 mg and raises median 24-h gastric pH from about 1.5 to 3-4 in healthy volunteers and in duodenal ulcer patients to above 5. Results from studies have confirmed that pantoprazole is superior to H(2)RAs in speed of healing and symptom relief in patients with peptic ulcer. In patients with duodenal ulcer pantoprazole was as effective as omperazole 20 mg and in patients with gastri

Effect of corticosteroids during ongoing drug exposure in pantoprazole-induced interstitial nephritis.

Acute interstitial nephritis (AIN) represents a significant cause of acute renal failure in hospital practice. An increasing number of drugs are known to cause AIN. Due to the lack of prospective, randomized clinical trials, the most effective management is still uncertain, especially the role of steroids in the resolution of interstitial nephritis remains to be further defined. We report on a case with pantoprazole-induced interstitial nephritis and on the effect of steroids during ongoing drug exposure. In spite of ongoing drug exposure, steroids led to almost complete resolution of the infl
