CONTEXT: Procedural sedation is widely used in pediatric dentistry to facilitate dental care in uncooperative children. From a pharmacological perspective, sedative agents differ substantially in their mechanisms of action, routes of administration, and safety profiles. Among the reported adverse effects, respiratory complications remain the most clinically significant and potentially life-threatening. Despite extensive clinical use, a comprehensive synthesis of respiratory adverse events (RAEs) associated with commonly used sedative drugs in pediatric dental settings is lacking. This scoping

Local anesthetics (LAs) are widely used in dentistry and minor surgical procedures in children and are classified into two groups: esters and amides. Articaine, an amide derivative, is among the most effective and well-tolerated agents for dental procedures. Commercially available formulations are often combined with epinephrine. With the widespread use of these agents, reports of hypersensitivity reactions have emerged. We describe the case of an 11-year-old girl with asthma who developed immediate hypersensitivity to articaine during a dental procedure and was subsequently referred for aller

Early loss of deciduous teeth is a challenging situation to handle. In recent years, the loss of deciduous teeth has become very frequent because of the increased risk of caries. Space maintainers play a vital role in preventing space loss. Lingual arch space maintainers are effectively used to maintain space in the lower arch. In order to retain the length of the lower arch and to prevent mesial migration of the mandibular first permanent molar, lingual arch space maintainers are often indicated. Conventional lingual arch fabrication is technique-sensitive and cumbersome. Additionally, it has

BACKGROUND: Dental caries is one of the most prevalent chronic diseases among children worldwide. Conventional caries management methods such as fluoride sealants and varnishes are widely used; however, newer noninvasive therapies like silver diamine fluoride (SDF) have gained attention. SDF has been proposed as a topical treatment for pediatric carious lesions, with advantages including arresting caries progression, reducing pain, and promoting remineralization with minimal intervention.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: This review summarizes available evidence on the effectiveness of SDF as a caries

Background: General anesthesia (GA) plays a key role in pediatric dentistry by enabling comprehensive dental treatment in children who cannot be adequately managed using conventional behavioral techniques, local anesthesia, or sedation. While previous reviews have primarily focused on safety outcomes and adverse events, less attention has been given to patterns of GA utilization and their broader clinical and public health implications. Objective: The objective was to synthesize and critically analyze contemporary evidence on utilization patterns, clinical indications, and treatment characteri

Background: Pulpitis is a common cause of dental pain in children and is primarily an inflammatory condition that can be effectively managed with local operative treatment. Although antibiotics are indicated only in cases of systemic involvement or infection spread, they are frequently overprescribed in dental practice. This misuse contributes to antimicrobial resistance and adverse health outcomes. This systematic review aimed to evaluate antibiotic prescribing practices for pulpitis in pediatric patients and to assess adherence to current clinical guidelines. Methods: A systematic review was

UNLABELLED: Oral diseases in children are still a major public health problem that can negatively impact parents and their children's quality of life. Even though oral diseases are largely preventable, initial signs of them can be detected in the 1st year of life, and its severity might increase with time if no preventive measures are taken. Based on this, we aim to discuss "where is pediatric dentistry now?" and "where is pediatric dentistry heading?" Early life oral health conditions are a good predictor of oral health status in adolescence, adulthood, and elderly people. A healthy childhood

Oral health remains a critical yet overlooked aspect of pediatric health, despite strong evidence linking untreated dental disease with systemic complications, impaired growth, and reduced quality of life. Globally, early childhood caries and related oral conditions affect 60%-90% of children, disproportionately impacting disadvantaged groups. However, pediatric oral health is often siloed from mainstream child health services. Pediatricians, frequently the first point of contact for families, have limited oral health training, while pediatric dentists often see children only when conditions h

Survival rates for children treated for malignant diseases continue to improve, yet many survivors face persistent late oral complications that affect function, aesthetics, and quality of life. Oncological therapy, especially at a young age and following head and neck radiotherapy or intensive chemotherapy, can disrupt dental and craniofacial development, resulting in dental developmental disorders, enamel defects, salivary gland dysfunction, caries susceptibility, periodontal problems, trismus, and osteoradionecrosis of the jaw. Although these effects are partially known, they are frequently

Chitosan, a hydrogel derived from chitin via deacetylation, exhibits antimicrobial, bioadhesive, and regenerative properties, making it a promising biomaterial in pediatric dentistry. Despite extensive research, a comprehensive review of its preventive, restorative, and regenerative applications in children is lacking. This review consolidates current evidence on the mechanisms, clinical uses, and future potential of chitosan-based interventions in pediatric dental care. The search identified a broad spectrum of evidence encompassing preventive, restorative, and endodontic uses of chitosan. Ch
