Primary Penile Squamous Cell Cancer-Related Malignant Priapism in a Cystectomized Patient: A Case Report.

Priapism is one of the most common urologic emergencies and is characterized by a prolonged and painful erectile state unrelated to sexual stimulation or sexual desire. Neoplasm-associated priapism is a rare condition and is usually caused by corporeal metastases of other pelvic area malignancies. Primary penile malignancy-related malignant priapism is extremely rare. In this reported case, an 82-year-old male presented with priapism. The penile doppler ultrasound and pelvic magnetic resonance imaging were compatible with ischemic priapism and corporal mass. Subsequently, the patient underwent

Occurrence of human papillomavirus type 16 DNA in cutaneous squamous and basal cell neoplasms.

Sixty-eight cutaneous squamous cell neoplasms (in situ and invasive) and 26 basal cell carcinomas from 89 patients were analyzed for DNA sequences homologous to the human papillomavirus (HPV) types found predominantly in the genital tract. Thirty-six (53%) of the squamous cell neoplasms contained HPV DNA as detected by filter or in situ hybridization analysis. The frequency of detection of HPV DNA was dependent on the site of the lesion. Of 40 genital squamous cell neoplasms (penile, vulvar, and perianal), 27 (68%) had detectable HPV DNA. In 25 of these, the HPV type was 16 or HPV-16-related,

An Unusual Presentation of Gastric Cancer Metastatic to the Penile Shaft and Perineum.

Metastatic disease to the penile shaft is among the most rare metastatic sites for any neoplasm. We report the case of a healthy 69-year-old Jamaican male who initially presented with classical primary gastric adenocarcinoma. He was subsequently treated in a routine manner with complete surgical resection followed by chemoradiation as per the US Intergroup Trial 0116. Two years later, the patient presented with a chief complaint of dyspareunia. He was found to have a perineal nodule and penile skin thickening. He was ultimately diagnosed with gastric metastasis and treated with chemotherapy an

[Metastatic penile tumors: report of three cases].

Metastatic tumor of the penis is uncommon in spite of its rich blood supply, abundant vascular space and the proximity of the pelvic organs which have a high incidence of malignant neoplasms. We report three cases of metastatic penile tumors. The primary sites of these cases were the left ureter, the right kidney and the rectum. We review and discuss sixty two cases collected from the Japanese literature, including our cases.

Lesions and Neoplasms of the Penis: A Review.

In addition to practitioners who care for male patients, with the increased use of high-resolution anoscopy, practitioners who care for women are seeing more men in their practices as well. Some diseases affecting the penis can impact on their sexual partners. Many of the lesions and neoplasms of the penis occur on the vulva as well. In addition, there are common and rare lesions unique to the penis. A review of the scope of penile lesions and neoplasms that may present in a primary care setting is presented to assist in developing a differential diagnosis if such a patient is encountered, as

Case Report: Optimum excision with split skin graft closure in the management of penile sebaceous carcinoma.

Sebaceous carcinoma (SC) is a rare malignant skin neoplasm derived from the meibomian gland of adnexal epithelium, which is frequently confused with basal cell carcinoma (BCC), exhibiting sebaceous differentiation and commonly found in the head and neck regions. We report a case of penile sebaceous carcinoma, an extremely rare anatomical site for SC. A 68-year-old man presented with a 4-month history of painless, non-healing ulcerated nodules over the left side of the penile shaft. Wedge biopsy showed adenocarcinoma with signet ring differentiation. We proceeded with wide local excision (WLE)

Survey of equine cutaneous neoplasia in the Pacific Northwest.

A retrospective study examined data regarding equine cutaneous and mucocutaneous neoplasms submitted to the Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory at Oregon State University in a 3.5-year period. A total of 536 neoplasms were identified, accounting for 30% of the total equine pathology submissions. Sarcoid, squamous cell carcinoma, melanocytic tumors, papillomas, and mast cell tumors were the most common neoplasms, constituting 87.5% of all cutaneous neoplasms. Sarcoids represented 51.4% of all neoplasms and 15.18% of total equine accessions. Sarcoid was most common in paints, quarter horses, and Ar

MRI of the Scrotum and Penis: Current Applications and Clinical Relevance.

Background: Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) plays an increasingly important role in the evaluation of scrotal and penile disorders, complementing ultrasonography in cases where findings are equivocal or complex. With its superior soft-tissue contrast, multiplanar capability, and advanced functional sequences, MRI provides unparalleled anatomic and tissue characterization across a wide range of male genital pathologies. Summary: This review summarizes current clinical applications of MRI in scrotal and penile imaging and discusses its diagnostic value, protocol optimization, and interpretive f

Malignant Melanoma as a Rare Cause of Penile Cancer: A Case Report.

Malignant melanoma is a neoplasm originating from melanocytes and may arise at cutaneous or extracutaneous sites. Penile involvement is uncommon and may present with variable clinical manifestations. We describe a case of a 47-year-old male who presented with a progressively enlarging lesion involving the glans penis, initially associated with pruritus and later with severe local pain and bilateral inguinal lymphadenopathy. Histopathological examination of an incisional biopsy confirmed malignant melanoma of the penis. Imaging studies performed for staging demonstrated regional lymph node invo

The epidermal growth factor receptors as biological targets in penile cancer.

Penile cancer is a rare disease, with an incidence that is higher in less developed countries and is in the range of 1 - 10 per 100000 men worldwide. Early diagnosis is essential for cure, as 5 year cancer-specific survival is 90 - 100 % in patients with intraepithelial neoplasms and in those with low-grade superficial tumors without lymphovascular invasion, but it drops to 30% in men with multiple mobile or bilateral inguinal lymph nodes. The EGFR family plays a major role in penile cancer biology, with distinct receptors being involved in HPV-positive and -negative tumors. A number of anti-E

Pro-Inflammatory Cytokine Gene Expression in Penile Cancer: Preliminary Studies.

Background and Objectives: Penile cancer is a rare neoplasm in developed countries with an incidence of 0.8/100,000 per male inhabitant. Despite the development of personalized medicine and multimodal treatment, the outcome of penile cancer treatment is insufficient. Our study aimed to assess the levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines' mRNA such as interleukin 1-A (encoded by IL1A gene, alias IL-1A), interleukin 1-B (IL1B, IL-1B), interleukin 1 receptor antagonist (IL1RN, IL-1RN), interleukin 6 (IL6, IL-6), transforming growth factor β1 (TGFB1, TGFβ-1), and Interferon-gamma (INFG, INF-γ) in peni

Pattern of invasion is the most important prognostic factor in patients with penile cancer submitted to lymph node dissection and pathological absence of lymph node metastasis.

OBJECTIVES: To identify prognostic factors in a cohort of patients with penile carcinoma with pathological absence of lymph node metastasis (pN0), as penile carcinoma is a rare neoplasm in European countries, in which the presence of lymph node metastasis is the most important prognostic factor but few studies have examined patients with penile carcinoma with histologically negative nodes (pN0). PATIENTS AND METHODS: Of patients with penile carcinoma, 101 met the inclusion criteria; 47 (46.5%) underwent bilateral inguinal lymph node dissection (LND) and 54 (53.5%) underwent bilateral inguinop

[Concomitant myeloid sarcoma and plasma cell myeloma--case report of a hitherto undescribed association of two neoplasms].

A 65-year-old male patient initially presented with a penile tumour, identified as myeloid sarcoma. Subsequent bone marrow investigation revealed the presence of a synchronous plasma cell myeloma, without any evidence of a bone marrow-based myeloproliferative disorder. Although the course of both neoplasms was progressive, with increasing bone marrow involvement by the plasma cell myeloma and cutaneous dissemination of the myeloid sarcoma, both neoplasms remained confined to their original tissue compartments. Different biology of both tumours, including markedly divergent response to therapie

A Rare Presentation of Penile Calciphylaxis Requiring Partial Penectomy.

Calciphylaxis is a rare disease and carries high morbidity and mortality rates. It's characterized by microvascular calcification and occlusion, which leads to a life-threatening disease characterized by skin necrosis and ulceration. Calciphylaxis is classified as uremic, which occurs in patients with end-stage renal disease and who are non-uremic. Non-uremic calciphylaxis is an even rarer disease that occurs in patients without end-stage renal disease and has a high mortality rate secondary to sepsis. The most common risk factors are diabetes mellitus, hyperparathyroidism, malignant neoplasm,

Secondary neoplasms of the male genital tract with different patterns of involvement in adults and children.

AIMS: The incidence, presentation and macroscopic and histological features of secondary neoplasms of the male genital tract are described with reference to their differential diagnosis. METHODS AND RESULTS: A retrospective study of cases from the Royal London Hospital yielded a total of 31 secondary neoplasms involving the testis: 14 at postmortem examination and 17 surgical specimens. Nine cases were leukaemias: six acute lymphoblastic and two acute myeloid leukaemias in children, and one chronic lymphocytic leukaemia in an adult. The commonest primary sites of metastases to the testis were

Penile schwannoma mistaken for hemangioma: a rare case report and literature review.

Penile neoplasm is uncommon. Schwannomas of the penis are especially rare. For this reason, it is difficult to get an accurate impression to enable decision making. This report primarily deals with the mistaken diagnosis of hemangioma, to the surgery, and the follow-up in real-world. A 38-year-old male patient presented with a palpable mass in the penile root that increased in size with erection. One year after the mass had been found, the patient visited the hospital and complained that the mass was growing. Moreover, the patient explained that the mass seemed to increase during penile erecti

Uncommon applications of sentinel lymph node mapping: urogenital cancers.

Beside the classical applications of sentinel lymph node mapping, some new procedures are emerging and showing feasibility and clinical utility. In this chapter, we will report on sentinel lymph node mapping in 1) malignancies of the female reproductive system (cervical cancer, endometrial cancer, vulvar cancer and ovarian cancer); 2) malignancies of the male reproductive system (prostate cancer, penile cancer and testicular cancer); 3) malignancies in kidney and bladder. This paper presents the uncommon applications of sentinel lymph node mapping in urogenital neoplasms.

Prognostic predictors of lymph node metastasis in penile cancer: a systematic review.

PURPOSE: Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) of the penis is a rare disease in developed countries but is associated with significant morbidity and mortality. A crucial prognostic factor is the presence of inguinal lymph node metastases (ILNM) at the time of diagnosis. At least 25% of cases have micrometastases at the time of diagnosis. Therefore, we performed a literature review of studies evaluating factors, both clinical and pathological, predictive of lymph node metastases in penile SCC. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Studies were identified using PubMed and search terms included the following: penile

Angiomatous Subtype of Penile Kaposi Sarcoma With Concurrent HIV-Negative Multicentric Castleman Disease: A Case Report.

Kaposi sarcoma is a vascular neoplasm driven by human herpesvirus 8 (HHV-8), commonly seen in the setting of immunosuppression, such as HIV/AIDS or posttransplant therapy. The presentation of Kaposi sarcoma in HIV-negative patients with multicentric Castleman disease is exceedingly rare, particularly with uncommon histology subtypes and involvement of the penile shaft. A 58-year-old HIV-negative man with a history of HHV-8-associated multicentric Castleman disease presented with a violaceous lesion on the buttock, followed by a crusted ulcer on the penile shaft. Sentinel Node Mapping in Gynecologic Cancers: A Comprehensive Review.

Gynecologic cancers are one of the most important causes of women death worldwide. The sentinel lymph node concept was introduced by Cabanas in 1977 for the penile cancer. This technique was proven safe and feasible in selected cancers such as breast cancer, melanoma, or some gynecologic cancers. Sentinel lymph node mapping is increasingly used in early stages of cervical or vulvar cancer in particular due to the safety, high detection rate, and sensitivity of the technique. In this review, we will discuss in depth the most recent evidence of nuclear medicine and other techniques used to deter
