Coronary artery stent infection (CSI) is one of the rarest complications associated with the percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), usually requiring surgical intervention. Reaching and confirming the diagnosis remains the most challenging aspect of this complication. We describe a case of drug-eluting stents (DES) infection after several repeated procedures of primary angioplasty and stent implantation in the context of myocardial infarction. In the current era of growth of coronary stent implantation, it's important for clinicians to consider and to prevent such potentially fatal events.

OBJECTIVES: Minimally invasive direct coronary artery bypass (MIDCAB) with the left internal thoracic artery (LITA) provides excellent long-term results for isolated left anterior descending coronary artery (LAD) disease. We tried to evaluate the impact of the previous percutaneous coronary intervention (p-PCI) for LAD on the clinical outcomes of MIDCAB in this study.
METHODS: A total of 197 patients with isolated LAD disease underwent MIDCAB in our center from February 2009 to May 2020. 51 patients had the p-PCI for LAD and 146 patients did not. The primary outcome was the major adverse card

Coronary pseudoaneurysms (CPAs) are rare complications developed after percutaneous coronary interventions. They may cause stent thrombosis, distal embolization, and coronary rupture leading to cardiac tamponade. Therefore, high-risk CPA should be promptly treated after diagnosis. They can be managed with percutaneous or surgical intervention. Herein, we aimed to present a patient who developed CPA 3 weeks after percutaneous coronary intervention and successfully treated with percutaneous intervention using a covered stent.

BACKGROUND: The systolic forward travelling compression wave (sFCW) and diastolic backward travelling decompression waves (dBEW) predominantly accelerate coronary blood flow. The effect of a coronary stenosis on the intensity of these waves in the distal vessel is unknown. We investigated the relationship between established physiological indices of hyperemic coronary flow and the intensity of the two major accelerative coronary waves identified by Coronary Wave Intensity analysis (CWIA).
METHODOLOGY / PRINCIPAL FINDINGS: Simultaneous intracoronary pressure and velocity measurement was perfor

AIM: The incidence of patients subjected to emergency coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) is decreasing due to improvement of PCI technique and device technology. The aim of our study is to evaluate cases subjected to emergency CABG after complicated PCI to determine incidence, indications and results of surgery and to compare them with other emergency cases which are not related to angioplasty or stenting.
METHODS: From April 1999 to December 2005, 1 200 patients who underwent PCI were analysed. Those patients who developed complications related

This review focuses on the use of bivalirudin as a replacement anticoagulant for heparin in patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention, or who are being treated for unstable angina pectoris, ST-elevation, or non-ST-elevation myocardial infarction. Potential advantages of bivalirudin include a lack of dependence on antithrombin III for anticoagulant activity, the ability to inactivate both fibrin-bound and soluble thrombin, a lack of aggregatory effects on platelets, a predictable anticoagulant response without monitoring, and a wider therapeutic window. Clinical trial results to da

BACKGROUND: Coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA) is usually displayed in 2-dimensional planes with few fixed 3-dimensional (3D) views, which may limit appreciation of the spatial relationship between plaques and vessel. We describe initial clinical experience with CorVIS, an artificial intelligence-based coronary visualization system, in complex percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI).
CASE SUMMARY: We present 3 cases-2 chronic total occlusions and 1 heavily calcified lesion-in which CorVIS provided freely rotatable 3D reconstructions with plaque characterization. In each case, th

Iatrogenic coronary artery fistula (CAF) can occur following acute myocardial infarction, percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) procedures, and heart surgery. Iatrogenic CAF linked to PCI has a low incidence rate. Early diagnosis and treatment are crucial when an iatrogenic fistula develops, as it may lead to cardiac tamponade, myocardial infarction, or death. In this report, we present a case of iatrogenic CAF secondary to coronary perforation caused by guidewire-induced trauma, followed by stent implantation and balloon inflation in the context of acute coronary syndrome (ACS). It was suc

BACKGROUND: Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), the preferred coronary reperfusion strategy, induces endothelial trauma which may mount an inflammatory response. This has been shown to increase the likelihood of further major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE). Colchicine, a cheap and widely used anti-inflammatory has shown promise in improving cardiovascular outcomes. We aimed to perform a systematic review and meta-analysis to study the effects of colchicine in patients with symptomatic coronary artery disease (CAD) who have undergone PCI.
METHOD: We systematically reviewed and meta

Cerebral microemboli are frequently observed during coronary angiography (CA) and percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), and their numbers have been related to the vascular access site used. Although cerebral microemboli can cause silent cerebral lesions, their clinical impact is debated. To study this, 93 patients referred for CA or PCI underwent serial cognitive testing using the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) test to detect postprocedural cognitive impairment. Patients were randomized to radial or femoral access. In a subgroup of 35 patients, the number of cerebral microemboli was

Coronary artery anomalies are found in 1-5% of all coronary angiograms. Single coronary artery is a rare congenital anomaly. The prevalence of the anomaly is 0.024-0.066% of the general population and percutaneous coronary intervention in this anomaly is performed infrequently. The highest incidence of this condition is reported from India. We report a case of a 55 year old patient of anterior wall ST elevation myocardial infarction with L1 group of single coronary artery who underwent successful angioplasty and stenting to left anterior descending artery. The unique features and inherent risk

The appropriate treatment for asymptomatic patients with obstructive coronary stenoses is controversial. The effect of percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) on the prognosis of such patients is unknown. The present study compared the 1-year outcomes of patients with stable coronary artery disease (CAD) with regard to the presence or absence of symptoms after elective PCI. A total of 1,944 consecutive patients with stable CAD who had undergone elective PCI were studied. They were divided into 2 groups according to symptom status: asymptomatic (n = 1,052) and symptomatic (n = 892). A 1-year f

BACKGROUND: Although catheter-induced left main coronary artery (LMCA) dissection is a rare complication of coronary catheterization, it is a common cause of periprocedural mortality. Emergent coronary artery bypass surgery (CABG) is the mainstay for managing this acute complication. However, hemodynamic deterioration may progress while patients await emergent CABG; consequently, a high postoperative mortality rate has been reported. Although the number of cases was small, prompt bail-out stenting for iatrogenic LMCA dissection had reportedly reversed this complication with favorable clinical

An isolated single coronary artery is a rare congenital anomaly and an uncommon finding in patients undergoing coronary angiography. In this report, we describe a rare case of a patient who had an anomaly of the left and right coronary arteries with a single coronary ostium in the right sinus of Valsalva, in which percutaneous coronary intervention was successfully performed in the right coronary artery.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Vascular complications following transradial coronary angiography and coronary intervention could severely compromise perfusion of the hand. Drastic complications after cannulation of the radial artery (ischemia of the hand with occlusion of the digital arteries) are published only in brief reports. This study investigates whether percutaneous transradial artery coronary angiography/intervention results in vascular complications.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: 93 patients were consecutively studied over a 4-month period. The following data were recorded before and after coronar

(1) Introduction: Distal coronary emboli occur in up to 15-30.5% of patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) for acute myocardial infarction (AMI) and are associated with poor myocardial reperfusion in the territory of the infarct-related artery. The objective of this study was to analyze the possible laboratory, clinical and imaging indicators of distal coronary embolism detected with an angiography at the time of PCI with stent implantation for acute coronary syndrome (ACS). (2) Methods: This analysis included 137 patients with ACS. The levels of cardiac enzymes (creatine

OBJECTIVE: To examine the trends in patient characteristics and clinical outcomes over a ten-year period and to analyse the predictors of mortality in octogenarians undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in our centre.
METHODS: A total of 782 consecutive octogenarians (aged 80 and above) were identified from a prospectively collected PCI database within our non-surgical, medium volume centre between 1st January 2007 and 31st December 2016. This represented 10.9% of all PCI procedures performed in our centre during this period. We evaluated the demographic and procedural character
