BACKGROUND: Screening instruments for mental disorders need to be short, engaging, and valid. Current screening instruments are usually questionnaire-based and may be opaque to the user. A prototype approach where individuals identify with a description of an individual with typical symptoms of depression, anxiety, social phobia or panic may be a shorter, faster and more acceptable method for screening. The aim of the study was to evaluate the accuracy of four new prototype screeners for predicting depression and anxiety disorders and to compare their performance with existing scales.

OBJECTIVE: Anxiety is a common comorbid feature of late-life depression (LLD) and is associated with poorer global cognitive functioning independent of depression severity. However, little is known about whether comorbid anxiety is associated with a domain-specific pattern of cognitive dysfunction. We therefore examined group differences (LLD with and without comorbid anxiety) in cognitive functioning performance across multiple domains.
METHOD: Older adults with major depressive disorder (N = 228, ages 65-91) were evaluated for anxiety and depression severity, and cognitive functioning (lear

Mathematics and statistical skills are crucial to daily life. However, many students found mathematics difficult to learn and understand. This research aimed to find relationships between mathematics and statistical attitudes and emotional dimensions, such as anxiety or self-efficacy. The sample consisted of two groups: the first group was formed by 276 Spanish students (75.7% female with an average age of 19.92 years) from different degrees at the University of Granada and the second one by agroup of 19 secondary school students from of a Secondary School in Granada, Spain (57.9% male student

BACKGROUND: Despite gains made in the study of childhood anxiety, differential diagnosis remains challenging because of indistinct boundaries between disorders and high comorbidity. This is certainly true for generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) as they share multiple cognitive processes (e.g., rumination, intolerance of uncertainty, and increased attention to threat). Disentangling such cognitive characteristics and, subsequently, underlying mechanisms could serve to inform assessment and treatment practices, and improve prognoses.

BACKGROUND: Social anxiety disorder (SAD) is characterized by fear of social and performance situations. The consequence of scrutiny by others for the neural processing of performance feedback in SAD is unknown.
METHODS: We used event-related functional magnetic resonance imaging to investigate brain activation to positive, negative, and uninformative performance feedback in patients diagnosed with SAD and age-, gender-, and education-matched healthy control subjects who performed a time estimation task during a social observation condition and a non-social control condition: while either bei

INTRODUCTION: Large language models (LLMs) are increasingly integrated into human resource management practices and are becoming capable of supporting managerial tasks such as performance feedback. Although these technologies may improve the efficiency and quality of feedback delivery, it remains unclear whether knowledge of AI involvement influences recipients' reactions to it.
METHODS: This work presents results from a vignette-based experiment (N = 192) examining employees' reactions to a hypothetical performance feedback scenario. Participants were randomly assigned to one of four disclos

This study aimed to compare trait anxiety and test anxiety among Chinese undergraduates with typical development, high-functioning specific learning disabilities (SLD), and typical-functioning SLD, and to examine the mediating role of test anxiety in the relationship between trait anxiety and academic performance across these three groups. The study included 239 s-year undergraduate students from universities in Taiwan, with 134 typically developing students, 54 students with typical-functioning SLD, and 51 students with high-functioning SLD. Our results indicated that the high-functioning SLD

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: The Hogg Eco-Anxiety Scale (HEAS-13) is a thirteen-item measure of eco-anxiety, with four dimensions: (1) affective symptoms, (2) rumination, (3) behavioural symptoms, and (4) anxiety about personal impact. Being a recently developed questionnaire, data on its psychometrics are limited. The aim of this study was to introduce a Polish version of the HEAS-13 and examine its psychometric properties.
METHODS: Our sample consisted of 634 Polish-speaking adults, with ages ranging from 18 to 67 years. We assessed the HEAS-13's factor structure, internal consistency, test-retes

BACKGROUND: Music performance anxiety (MPA) is common among university music students. Although MPA has been viewed as multidimensional, the position of evaluative threat (ET) within its internal structure remains unclear in Chinese university music students. This study examined whether ET forms an internal dimension of MPA, together with anticipatory tension and error monitoring (ATEM) and anxiety-related performance impairment (ARPI).
METHODS: A cross-sectional online survey was conducted with 664 Chinese university music students. The 12-item measure assessed ATEM, ET, and ARPI. Data were

Social anxiety disorder (SAD) is often complicated by anticipatory anxiety, hyperarousal, and variability in response to first-line treatments such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and pharmacotherapy. These limitations highlight the need for adjunctive modalities capable of enhancing the magnitude and durability of treatment response. This case report explores outcomes following spectral EEG-guided personalized repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (PrTMS) in a patient with SAD, performance-only subtype. Weekly psychometric assessments revealed reductions in social anxiety intensi

BACKGROUND: Music performance anxiety (MPA) is common among musicians, affecting performance quality, well-being, and career continuity. Reliable and culturally adapted tools are essential for its assessment. The Mazzarolo Music Performance Anxiety Scale (M-MPAS) is a brief five-item measure of the intensity, frequency, and avoidance of performance-related anxiety, but no validated Brazilian version has been available.
OBJECTIVE: To conduct a cross-cultural validation of the M-MPAS among professional and student musicians in the Brazilian context and evaluate the construct validity and reliab

Individuals with Social Anxiety Disorder (SAD) have difficulty engaging in social situations because their actions are predicated on minimizing the subjectively biased high potential for rejection. That is, individuals with SAD frequently perceive social situations as challenging, and their performance as subpar. Yet when individuals perceive themselves as succeeding in challenging situations, they typically report these situations as enjoyable and rewarding. This subjective experience of succeeding in a challenging situation has been studied as flow (Csikszentmihalyi, 1975; 2000). Thirty-thre

BACKGROUND: Mental workability decisions must be based on information on person's symptom load, cognitive performance, and workplace conditions. This investigation explores in which way these factors contribute to workability in persons with common mental disorders (CMDs).
METHODS: One thousand five hundred seventy CMD-patients underwent multimodal medical diagnostic. Participants filled in questionnaires on work-phobic-anxiety and general mental symptom load. They were also investigated concerning their cognitive performance. Sick leave duration, workplace problems, and subjective workabilit

Music performance anxiety (MPA) is a prevalent psychological challenge that can impair musicians' wellbeing and performance quality. While psychological resilience has been proposed as a protective factor, the mechanisms underlying its association with MPA remain unclear, particularly among choir members. This study examined the direct and indirect relationships between psychological resilience and MPA via performance control sense and pre-performance rumination, and further explored whether these pathways differed by sex. A total of 801 Chinese choir members completed validated measures of ps

Most research on sexual performance anxiety has focused on men's experiences and links to erectile functioning and premature ejaculation, with little research attention given to women's experiences or to relationship dynamics. At times, sexual performance anxiety has been examined in the context of dysfunction, but rarely as a focus in its own right. Study 1 asked 51 participants reporting sexual performance anxiety to describe the cognitive and affective components of their experiences, coping strategies, and perceived impact on their relationship using open-ended responses from online survey

This preliminary investigation sought to examine basic interpretive biases, as assessed via performance-based means, in the context of anxious symptomatology, attention, and negative cognition in children and adolescents. At a single assessment, 26 youths diagnosed with primary separation anxiety, social phobia, or generalized anxiety disorder completed performance-based assessments of interpretation and attention. Youths and parents also completed diagnostic interviews and youths completed a measure of negative self-statements. Components of interpretation (threat-valence judgments and speed

Cognitive models emphasize that patients with social anxiety disorder (SAD) are mainly characterized by biased perception of their social performance. In addition, there is a growing body of evidence showing that SAD patients suffer from actual deficits in social interaction. To unravel what characterizes SAD patients the most, underestimation of social performance (defined as the discrepancy between self-perceived and observer-perceived social performance), or actual (observer-perceived) social performance, 48 patients with SAD and 27 normal control participants were observed during a speech

Social anxiety disorder (SAD) in adolescent girls is clinically heterogeneous, yet the cognitive and emotional processes distinguishing performance-based, interaction-based, and combined presentations remain poorly characterized. In this case-control study, 219 adolescent girls aged 12-18 years were recruited from four child and adolescent psychiatry outpatient clinics and assigned, via K-SADS-PL-guided diagnostic evaluation, to four groups: performance anxiety only (SA - PA+; n = 52), social interaction anxiety only (SA + PA-; n = 50), combined social interaction and performance anxiety (SA +
