Determination of Pesticide Residues in IV Range Artichoke (Cynara cardunculus L.) and Its Industrial Wastes.

Fourth-range products are those types of fresh fruit and vegetables that are ready for raw consumption or after cooking, and belong to organic or integrated cultivations. These products are subject to mild post-harvesting processing procedures (selection, sorting, husking, cutting, and washing), and are afterwards packaged in packets or closed food plates, with an average shelf life of 5-10 days. Artichokes are stripped of the leaves, stems and outer bracts, and the remaining heads are washed with acidifying solutions. The A LC-MS/MS analytical method was developed and validated following SANT

Carbonylation induced by antibiotic and pesticide residues on casein increases its IgE binding and allergenicity.

This work aimed to evaluate the effect of carbonylation induced by tetracyclines, β-lactams, fluoroquinolones, and pyrethroids in caseins of bovine origin on their immunoreactivity and allergenicity. Using a spectrophotometric method, ELISA, dot-blot, and an IgE-mediated milk allergy mouse model, we confirmed that antibiotics and pesticides at their maximum residue limit, promoted the in vitro carbonylation of caseins (among 5.0 ± 0.01 and 67.5 ± 0.70 nmol of carbonyl/mg of protein); furthermore, carbonylations greater than 19 nmol significantly increase the in vitro IgE immunoreactivity of ca

Quantifying exposure of bumblebee (Bombus spp.) queens to pesticide residues when hibernating in agricultural soils.

Exposure to pesticides is a major threat to bumblebee (Bombus spp.) health. In temperate regions, queens of many bumblebee species hibernate underground for several months, putting them at potentially high risk of exposure to soil contaminants. The extent to which bumblebees are exposed to residues in agricultural soils during hibernation is currently unknown, which limits our understanding of the full pesticide exposome for bumblebees throughout their lifecycle. To generate field exposure estimates for overwintering bumblebee queens to pesticide residues, we sampled soils from areas correspon

Extension of the QuEChERS method for pesticide residues in cereals to flaxseeds, peanuts, and doughs.

A simple method was evaluated for the determination of pesticide residues in flaxseeds, doughs, and peanuts using gas chromatography-time-of-flight mass spectrometry (GC-TOF) for analysis. A modified QuEChERS (quick, easy, cheap, effective, rugged, and safe) method, which was previously optimized for cereal grain samples, was evaluated in these fatty matrices. This extraction method involves first mixing the sample with 1:1 water/acetonitrile for an hour to swell the matrix and permit the salt-out liquid-liquid partitioning step using anhydrous MgSO(4) and NaCl. After shaking and centrifugatio

Monitoring and distribution patterns of pesticide residues in soil from cotton/wheat fields of Pakistan.

The excessive use of hazardous pesticides for massive cotton and wheat production has deteriorated the quality of Okara district's soil. Thus, in order to sustain the production of good-quality food, it is essential to determine the residue levels of pesticides in the agricultural soil and define their possible sources. Thus, the present study focused on the determination of selected pesticides in the soil samples obtained from cotton/wheat fields by using the modified multi-residue pesticide analysis method based on GCMS and HPLC-UV. Most of soil samples were found to be highly contaminated w
