Ebola virus disease: roles and considerations for pharmacists.

Ebola virus disease (EVD) poses significant clinical care implications for pharmacists. Emergency preparedness efforts should be undertaken to ensure vital response to EVD. Pharmacists should consider factors such as enhanced use of resources for front-line EVD patient care along with procurement of investigational medications. Appropriate and timely preparation, distribution, and administration of treatment for patients with EVD in the setting of substantial critical illness as well as infection control measures are essential. Aggressive supportive care and early, goal-directed therapy are co

[The Derosne, Parisian pharmacists from 1779 to 1855].

The pharmacy of the 115 Saint Honoré street was successively kept by François, by his two sons Jean-François and Louis-Charles, and by the son-in-law of the elder, François-Bernard who took the Bernard-Derosne family name. The two brothers made many chemical studies, among which the "essential salt" of the opium extract, and the sugar purification. Louis-Charles had many industrial activities, in Chaillot, where he made vapor engines. The two brothers were members of the Académie Royale de Médecine, and Jean-François was twice the President of the Société de Pharmacie de Paris.

Developing a partnership with NAMI and psychiatric pharmacists.

NAMI is a grassroots advocacy organization dedicated to improving the lives of people with severe mental illness. We conducted a survey of 8 local Southern California NAMI chapters and found the membership to be predominantly female (70%) and elderly (mean age = 61 years). The majority of respondents (92%) rated information on psychiatric medications as very important, and 79 percent reported needing more information on psychiatric medications. A second survey of psychiatric pharmacists nationwide revealed that 80 percent have heard of NAMI but only 17 percent are members of NAMI. Psychiatric

U.S. student pharmacist perceptions of the pharmacist's role in methadone for opioid use disorder: A qualitative study.

BACKGROUND: Of the over 20 million Americans reporting an opioid use disorder, only around 3 million report receiving treatment of any kind. The gold standard for opioid use disorder treatment is medication in combination with psychosocial support, but despite robust evidence supporting treatment, barriers are substantial and include limited insurance coverage, patient beliefs, ease of access, regulatory hurdles, and stigma. Although trained as medication experts, U.S. pharmacists are not routinely involved in opioid use disorder treatment and may represent an underutilized care team member.

[Assessment of the effectiveness of pharmacists' activities in treatment of tobacco-addicted patients in the context of pharmacists' counselling in Cracow's pharmacies].

Tobacco-related diseases killed 100 millions people in 20th century and unless urgent action is taken, it is predicted that 1 billion people in total will be killed by smoking in this century. Pharmacists as health-care professionals should support the healthy lifestyle campaign and motivate smokers to quit smoking especially as they have the theoretical basis for such counselling. The aims of the study were: 1. to evaluate the readiness of pharmacists employed in public pharmacies to manage patients who would like to stop smoking; 2. to assess the pharmacists' current knowledge of the harmful

Enhancing chronic kidney disease screening through community pharmacists: a systematic review of pharmacist-led strategies.

INTRODUCTION: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) affects over 700 million people worldwide, with its prevalence rising steadily each year. Early diagnosis remains challenging due to a lack of awareness of CKD risk factors and the absence of noticeable symptoms in the initial stages. Pharmacists can play a pivotal role in CKD screening and patient education. OBJECTIVES: The primary aim of this systematic review was to identify specific pharmacist‑led interventions in community pharmacy settings that support CKD detection, assess their effectiveness, and evaluate their impact on patient outcomes. Proton pump inhibitors from clinical pharmacists point of view.

Proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) are very effective drugs in treatment and prevention of acid-related disorders. They are widely used in gastroesophageal reflux disease, gastroduodenal ulcers, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome or prevention and treatment of NSAIDs induced gastric lesions. They are also used in many other indications, although not always is their use appropriate. PPIs are generally well tolerated and overall benefits outweigh potential harm in most of the patients. However, their long-term use is not without a risk of adverse effects and drug-drug interactions and contributes to medical

Pharmacists and medication reconciliation: a review of recent literature.

INTRODUCTION: Hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (hEDS) and hypermobility spectrum disorder (HSD) are increasingly recognized among orthopedic physicians to cause joint instability, frequent dislocation, and chronic musculoskeletal pain. Yet, patients with these disorders frequently have coexisting conditions, such as postural tachycardia syndrome (POTS), mast cell activation syndrome (MCAS), autoimmune and allergic disease, and neuropsychiatric conditions including anxiety, depression, ADHD, and autism. These comorbidities complicate diagnosis and treatment, therefore potentially decreasing t
