Hepatoprotective properties of the Indian gooseberry (Emblica officinalis Gaertn): a review.

Liver diseases characterized by inflammation or tissue damage affect the optimal functioning and increase the morbidity and mortality of the affected individual. Liver diseases are a largely neglected health issue and recent reports indicate that they affect over 10% of the world population, with the highest burden in low and middle income countries that have minimal medical resources. To complicate matters the currently available pharmacological therapies are not optimal and when used for extended periods of time impart systemic toxicity. Diet can modify pathophysiological processes, includin

Emblica officinalis Gaertn. Fruits, their Phytochemicals, and Composite Herbal Products as Adjuncts in Preventing Ionizing Radiation Effects: Possible Use in Clinics.

In the management of solid tumors, ionizing radiation is a critical therapeutic modality, particularly when surgical intervention is impractical due to patient-related factors, such as compromised health or elevated mortality risk. However, its non-selective action can cause serious side effects that negate the therapeutic benefits. Efforts have thus been made to identify pharmacological agents that can selectively protect normal tissues from exposure to ionizing radiation. Seven decades of study, however, have shown that the desired success has not been achieved in obtaining an ideal radiopro

Transcriptomics and metabolomics reveal the alleviation effect of pectic polysaccharide on dextran sodium sulfate-induced colitis mice.

Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a relapsing disease with an increasing morbidity and prevalence. Dietary polysaccharides have recently become a research hotspot because of their therapeutic effects and safety on UC. Our previous research elucidated that pectic polysaccharide from Phyllanthus emblica L. (PEP-1) could alleviate dextran sodium sulfate-induced UC mice. Herein, metabolomics and transcriptomics were further applied to disclose the underlying mechanisms behind PEP-1's anti-inflammatory effects. PEP-1 intervention altered the serum metabolite contents and pathways represented by decreasing

Stability indicating RP-HPLC method for the simultaneous determination of multi-flavonoid compounds in herbal extracts, besides green analytics.

A stability-indicating RP-HPLC method was developed and validated for the simultaneous quantification of five flavonoids, viz., epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), silibinin (SL), naringenin (NG), genistein (GT), and apigenin (AG), in herbal extracts. Chromatographic separation was achieved on a C18 column using 0.1 M ammonium acetate and methanol at 40:60% v/v. The method demonstrated acceptable resolution, linearity (r2: 0.9905-0.9969), precision (<2% RSD), recovery (82.09-99.62%), and sensitivity (LOD: 0.068-1.516 μg/mL; LOQ: 0.20-4.59 μg/mL). The method successfully quantified these flavonoid
