Preparation and Application of a Urea-Formaldehyde-Blended Guanidinium Azole-Phytic Acid-Copper Flame-Retardant Resin Coating.

In this study, environmentally friendly flame retardants capable of efficient flame retardancy at low concentrations in wood were developed. Urea-formaldehyde (UF) resin and guanidinium azole (GZ)-phytate (PA)-copper hydroxide (Cu(OH)2) flame-retardant resin coating blends were prepared using urea, formaldehyde, 3,5-diamino-1,2,4-triazole (GZ), phytanic acid (PA), and copper hydroxide (Cu(OH)2). Employing dioctyl phthalate as the plasticizer and tannic acid as the curing agent, a three-stage reaction was performed to obtain the desired UF-GZ/PA/Cu as a bio-based flame retardant. Thermal evalua

One stone with two birds: Phytic acid-capped platinum nanoparticles for targeted combination therapy of bone tumors.

Targeted drug delivery to malignant bone lesions remains a challenging task in the treatment of bone tumors. In this article, we reported a naturally occurring phytic acid (PA) with both bone-targeting capability and anticancer activity. The PA-capped platinum nanoparticles showed high affinity to hydroxyapatite in vitro and in vivo, and maintained both the inherent anticancer ability of PA and photothermal effect of platinum nanoparticles. PA-capped nanoparticles displayed a 4-fold higher accumulation in the osteolytic lesions than sodium citrate-templated ones, and efficiently inhibited bone

Removal of aqueous Hg(II) and Cr(VI) using phytic acid doped polyaniline/cellulose acetate composite membrane.

Conductive composite membrane-phytic acid (PA) doped polyaniline (PANI)/cellulose acetate (CA) (PANI-PA/CA) was prepared in a simple and environmental-friendly method, in which aniline was blended with CA/PA solution and polymerized before the phase conversion. The resultant composite membranes were characterized by SEM, EDX, FTIR-ATR, BET and electrical resistance measurements. When used as adsorbent for Hg(II) and Cr(VI) ions, the prepared composite membrane exhibits excellent adsorption capability. The adsorption of Hg(II) and Cr(VI) follows a pseudo-second-order kinetic model and best fits

Complexation of soybean β-conglycinin and glycinin with phytic acid: Molecular insights and effects on structural and digestive properties.

This study investigated the complexation of phytic acid (PA) with soybean β-conglycinin (7S) and glycinin (11S) and its effects on protein structure and digestibility. Complex formation was most pronounced near pH 3.0, accompanied by decreased solubility and enhanced aggregation. PA binding reduced β-sheet content from 36.0% to 31.4% in 7S and from 37.3% to 35.1% in 11S, indicating conformational rearrangement. During simulated gastric digestion, hydrolysis decreased from 10.59% to 7.42% for 7S and from 9.93% to 6.92% for 11S, whereas hydrolysis increased during subsequent intestinal digestion

Exploring the Biofilm Inhibition Potential of a Novel Phytic Acid-Crosslinked Chitosan Nanoparticle: In Vitro and In Vivo Investigations.

The primary factor underlying the virulence of Candida albicans is its capacity to form biofilms, which in turn leads to recurrent complications. Over-the-counter antifungal treatments have proven ineffective in eliminating fungal biofilms and the inflammatory cytokines produced during fungal infections. Chitosan nanoparticles offer broad and versatile therapeutic potential as both antifungal agents and carriers for antifungal drugs to combat biofilm-associated Candida infections. In our study, we endeavoured to develop chitosan nanoparticles utilising chitosan and the antifungal crosslinker p

Phytic acid alleviates ochratoxin A-induced renal damage in chicks by modulating ferroptosis and the structure of the intestinal microbiota.

Phytic acid (PA) is a natural antioxidant with various biological activities, providing protective effects in multiple animals. Ochratoxin A (OTA) is a mold toxin commonly found in feed, which induces multi-organ damage, with kidney being the target organ of its toxicity. This study investigates the protective effects of PA on OTA-induced renal damage and its potential mechanisms in chicks. The results demonstrates that PA treatment restores OTA-induced renal pathological injuries, reverses the diminished activities of antioxidant enzymes, reduces the accumulation of malondialdehyde, and norma

Diverse role of phytic acid in plants and approaches to develop low-phytate grains to enhance bioavailability of micronutrients.

Natural or synthetic compounds that interfere with the bioavailability of nutrients are called antinutrients. Phytic acid (PA) is one of the major antinutrients present in the grains and acts as a chelator of micronutrients. The presence of six reactive phosphate groups in PA hinders the absorption of micronutrients in the gut of non-ruminants. Consumption of PA-rich diet leads to deficiency of minerals such as iron and zinc among human population. On the contrary, PA is a natural antioxidant, and PA-derived molecules function in various signal transduction pathways. Therefore, optimal concent

Dual-action MINPP1 effectors enable Riptortus pedestris to overcome phytic acid antinutritional defense and suppress pattern-triggered immunity.

Phytic acid (IP6) serves as the primary phosphorus reservoir in plant seeds and functions as a potent antinutritional defense to inhibit herbivore growth. Despite this formidable barrier, the bean bug Riptortus pedestris preferentially feeds on IP6-rich leguminous seeds, yet the molecular mechanisms underlying this dietary adaptation have remained elusive. Here, we demonstrate that R. pedestris overcomes this nutritional defense by co-opting the ancient, highly conserved multiple inositol polyphosphate phosphatase 1 (MINPP1) family. We identified four RPMINPP1 paralogs abundantly expressed in

«Green-Ligand» in Metallodrugs Design-Cu(II) Complex with Phytic Acid: Synthetic Approach, EPR-Spectroscopy, and Antimycobacterial Activity.

The interaction of sodium phytate hydrate C6H18O24P6·xNa·yH2O (phytNa) with Cu(OAc)2·H2O and 1,10-phenanthroline (phen) led to the anionic tetranuclear complex [Cu4(H2O)4(phen)4(phyt)]·2Na+·2NH4+·32H2O (1), the structure of the latter was determined by X-ray diffraction analysis. The phytate 1 is completely deprotonated; six phosphate- fragments (with atoms P1-P6) are characterized by different spatial arrangements relative to the cyclohexane ring (1a5e conformation), which determines two different types of coordination to the complexing agents-P1 and P3, P4, and P6 have monodentate, while P2

Phytic acid attenuates acetaminophen-induced hepatotoxicity via modulating iron-mediated oxidative stress and SIRT-1 expression in mice.

Introduction: Administration of high doses of acetaminophen (APAP) results in liver injury. Oxidative stress and iron overload play roles in the pathogenesis of APAP-induced hepatotoxicity. The present study assessed the potential hepatoprotective effects of phytic acid (PA), a natural antioxidant and iron chelator, on APAP-induced hepatotoxicity and the possible underlying mechanism through its effects on CYP2E1 gene expression, iron homeostasis, oxidative stress, and SIRT-1 expression levels. Methods: Twenty-four adult male albino mice were used in this study. Mice were divided into four gro

Kinetic and equilibrium constants of phytic acid and ferric and ferrous phytate derived from nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy.

Inositol phosphates are metabolically derived organic phosphates (P) that increasingly appear to be an important sink and source of P in the environment. Salts of myo-inositol hexakisdihydrogen phosphate (IHP) or more commonly phytate are the most common inositol phosphates in the environment. IHP resists acidic dephosphorylation and enzymatic dephosphorylation as ferric or ferrous IHP. Mobility of IHP iron complexes is potentially pH and redox responsive, making the time scale and environmental fate and transport of the P associated with the IHP of interest to the mass balance of phosphorus.

A ZnCl2-lactic acid deep eutectic solvent enables efficient cleavage of bamboo derived condensed lignin after ultra low phytic acid hydrolysis for xylooligosaccharide production.

Conventional organic acid hydrolysis for xylooligosaccharide (XOS) production often demands high acid concentrations, causing catalyst loss and environmental burdens. This work establishes a mechanistically tunable dual-acid cascade that couples ultra-dilute bio-derived phytic acid (PA) hydrolysis with a Lewis-Brønsted synergistic deep eutectic solvent (DES, ZnCl₂:lactic acid:ethylene glycol = 1:2:2), introducing an unexplored cooperative depolymerization pathway for selective bamboo valorization. The ultra-dilute PA catalyst enabled selective hemicellulose depolymerization, yielding up to 55.

Low phytic acid pea supplementation as an approach to combating iron deficiency in female runners: A randomized control trial.

Background: Iron deficiency (ID) is the most prevalent micronutrient deficiency in the world and the leading cause of anemia globally. Female athletes are at a disproportionate risk for ID due to blood loss through menstruation and decreased iron absorption secondary to exercise. Field peas are a rich source of iron but, similar to iron from other plant-based sources, the iron has limited bioavailability due to high levels of phytic acid, an inherent compound that binds to cations, creating a salt (phytate), which limits absorption during digestion. Aim: The purpose of our research was to inve

Hollow CoP/carbon as an efficient catalyst for the peroxymonosulfate activation derived from phytic acid assisted metal-organic framework.

The catalyst's composition and rationally designed structure is significantly interlinked with its performance for wastewater remediation. Here, a novel hollow cobalt phosphides/carbon (HCoP/C) as an efficient catalyst for activating peroxymonosulfate (PMS) was prepared. The ZIF-67 was synthesized first, followed by phytic acid (PA) etching and then heat treatment was used to get HCoP/C. The PA was used as an etching agent and a source of phosphorus to prepare HCoP/C. To analyze catalytic performance, another solid cobalt phosphides/carbon (SCoP/C) catalyst was prepared for comparison. In cont

Phytic acid attenuates upregulation of GSK-3β and disturbance of synaptic vesicle recycling in MPTP-induced Parkinson's disease models.

Heightened activity of glycogen synthase kinase-3β (GSK-3β) is linked to the degeneration of dopaminergic neurons in Parkinson's disease (PD). Phytic acid (PA), a naturally occurring compound with potent antioxidant property, has been shown to confer neuroprotection on dopaminergic neurons in PD. However, the underlying mechanism remains unclear. In the present study, MPTP and MPP+ treatments were used to model PD in mice and SH-SY5Y cells, respectively. We observed reduced tissue dopamine, disrupted synaptic vesicle recycling, and defective neurotransmitter exocytosis. Furthermore, expression

Theranostic antibacterial hydrogel based on biopolymers cross-linked and doped with phytic acid from rice bran for wound healing.

Theranostic antibacterial wound dressing is highly recommended in practical applications. The conventional methods of integrating diagnostic and therapeutic functions have the disadvantages of complicated preparation, mutual interference, inability to effectively broad spectrum antibacterial property, and easy to induce drug-resistant bacteria. Herein, a pH and light-responsive theranostic antibacterial hydrogel is developed by biopolymers polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and polyaniline (PANI), and cross-linking with phytic acid (PA), which is widely present in rice bran. The biological polymer-based

Phytic acid inhibits Cr(VI) reduction on Fe(II)-bearing clay minerals: Changing reduction sites and electron transfer pathways.

The presence of organic phosphorus may influence the characteristics of Cr(VI) reduction and immobilization on Fe(II)-bearing clay minerals under anoxic conditions, as the organic phosphorus tends to bind strongly to clay minerals in soil. Herein, reduced nontronite (rNAu-2) was used to reduction of Cr(VI) in the presence of phytic acid (IHP) at neutral pH. With IHP concentration from 0 to 500 μM, Cr(VI) reduction decreased obviously (17.8%) within first 5 min, and then preferred to stagnate during 4-12 h (≥50 μM). After that, Cr(VI) was reduced continuously at a slightly faster rate. Density
